I've just turned 50 in January, still as daft about sport as ever. Dont know how I get away with some of the trips. 7 away games in europe last season, topped off watchin British lions in South Africa on business ha ha. Got big soft spot for both Toon and Mackems. Got a mate I met in Cyprus runs Farringdon club. Used to go in there before Sunderland games. I don't think I can start to go less games now we will conquer the world. See you in Clover.

Have enjoyed your feuding and arguing with Jeb the evertonian. Was happy you didn't realise it was me during your irrational rants at a couple of my questions. A prime example of not only some one that doesn't go to games, but wouldn't go even go if you taxi'd him outside the turnstyles ha ha. Whoops i've let Jeb know now.
Enjoy yourself in Spain next week. Don't go lowering the tone with trafford footie shirts in the Clover bar. And don't beat my 8 and 10 year old nephews up who have their lovely blue ones on

Well said Ant. Very few people in football have had universal love of all factions. In my 40 odd years of watchin, people like Jock Stein, Sir Matt, Bill Shankly, Billy Nick at Spurs our Joe Mercer and most certainly the wonderful Bobby Robson. A gentlemans gentleman. Dignified in both success and defeat and a wonderful ambassador for sport. Very sadly missed and an excellent case for the minutes applause (instead of silence).

A true footballing legend from the old school
None of the modern day mind games, media playing we see today
I have grown up with some great memories from 1986 & 1990 World Cups
Forever grateful
RIP Sir Bobby

I think we all concur with the sentiments about Sir Bobby Robson, top man. Now lets get down to the business of analysing the impending season and where the challenges will be coming from. Liverpool? not a chance, they have not got a pot to p... in and the rats are already deserting the sinking ship. Man City? dont make me laugh, they are buying up anything that moves at twice the face value irrespective of ability, mind you they held Barnsley to a draw so they are improving! Arsenal? they have added nothing and are selling their best players at the first sign of a decent offer. They will be lucky to finish top six. That leaves Chelsea as the only serious contenders, but if they have been unsettled by the John Terry saga and suffer an early wobble, then I can see it being all over by xmas. Everton look the best of the rest and could break into the top four providing they have recovered from the mauling at the hands of Bury.
Well there we have it, an unbiased, balanced analysis of the situation, make room, Sir Alex, in the cabinet for title number 4 on the spin, plus whatever else we manage to pick up alongside it.
Cheers Dakey

Just to echo the sentiments below about Bobby Robson, here is a video of him receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Sports Personality of the Year 2007. The reception he got at the beginning showed how highly liked and respected he was not just in football but the sporting world in general.

Anyway, I'm off now to bask in the glory of a magnificent 3-1 away victory in the CIS Insurance Cup yesterday against the mighty Cowdenbeath. :)

Dakey, I have to say I am impressed with your assessment, especially the Everton bit !
It's certainly going to be interesting and City have certainly put the cat among the pigeons this time around.
It would be good if things can be shaken up a little bit becasue the same old four every year is not good in the long run, so
Will City's money let them break the top four ?
How will Utd cope without Ronaldo?
Will Owen / Valencia cut it ?
Can Arsenal stay in the top four having sold Adeybythingy & Toure ?
Will Liverpool sustain last season's surpsiringly good challenge ?
Will Ancellotti cut it in the prem ?
Will Villa show again ?
Can David Moyes continue to work miracles and drive Everton into the top four ?
Will Burnley earn a point all season ?
Can't wait - I can taste it already !

Interesting true story in Spanish papers at the weekend, covered in a couple of ours, Barcelona last week asked Lionel Messi to increase his contract by another year which will offer him a better wage structure but only if a clause is added making his sell on agreed price (that another club can speak to him) will be 220 million euros. They cited interest from Man City making them protect the clubs interests!!! Its only pocket money to Sheik Mansoor. What must the Double Glazing brothers think of it all??? If only we had somebody else to sell we could recoup some of our 700 million loss boo hoo

Dave,
You can name drop all you like, Messi will give the same response as Kaka and John Terry or any other top player with any sort of ambition. The top players dont want to go and play in a half empty stadium that you dont even own with no prospect of silverware anytime soon. sorry to burst your bubble, but by the end of Sept the usual cloud of gloom will have descended over Eastlands and no amount of money will change that!
Cheers Dakey

Hi Dave
Nice to see another City supporter in the webb. As a live long City supporter who has got abused for 60 years its nice to see the other clubs are now worried about City. Personally I still do expect instant success, but hopefully we can build for the future and become one of the top clubs in the premiership. Its a long time since we had any thing going for us, but God is good and we can but only hope. Just to complete with the top 4 would be nice and seeing as we never expected too much over the years, any bit of success would be great. Bring back the good old days in the late 60.s

Good to here from you mate. Its certainly interesting times. Its fun listening to ranting reds drivel in all of the broadcasts. It took fergie 20 minutes to tell the world he wasn't bothered about city. Come on Jeb, don't be befriending Dakey just cos he states the obvious that Everton have a decent side. Did you not spot his waffle, that we were just buyin overpriced nobodies and Arsenal were sellin all there best players. Who was that to then??? Is that one of those contradiction thingies weve spotted, I jolly well think it is. My point on Messi Dakey as you well know, is, as with Kaka and Terry, whether they want to come or not, the club will sell for the money offered. They can't afford not to. We are not ONE of the richest clubs in the world, the money is vastly more than that. Real Madrids new bank loans of 350 million is pocket money to these guys. In the greater Manchester area we have the richest sports club in the world and the one most in debt in the world. Like it or not Dakey this is new news. Lets see how quickly the divide gets gobbled up. It can only go one way.
Fred on the other hand, would you entrust City with all of this new wealth ha ha. Now thats bein a City fan

Had to reply to the last post.
I don't personally think  trumpeting your own club because it is now the supposed richest club in the world is very classy.I always thought it was about the best team and the most trophies..And much more importantly,it is your team.
It's not as if the money coming into City was somehow earned, these people went down a list and arrived at Eastlands, after crossing out a few clubs not attainable.
I am not the biggest United fan in the world but credit where it is due,the money they spend is generated on gate receipts and sponsorship. The important word there is generated, not donated.
My own team, the mighty Spurs, are not having the best of times but still are well run and not dependant on any handouts,of which I am proud. If all the sugar daddies went elsewhere we would be well placed.
I am not knocking City in any way, they are a great club, but let's leave the "loadsamoney" thing to one side and look forward to a new season.
John.

Having read your reply to my post, in the main your comments are pretty spot on. The post was set up hoping to initiate some ranting response from my good friend of 30 years Dakey. I hoped it was taken in context with the last line to Fred, that knowing City, no amount of money should Guarantee us instant miracles. I do get a little annoyed with the constant only for the money labels though. I don't think Chelsea were lambasted by the press quite the same. On the pitch we now have to succeed. Our game at Rangers, where I was last night ,highlighted a few issues that Mark Hughes has to address quickly. We have been transformed by good off the field business into a buying club now and hopefully that should produce a top 6 team to build on. The earned success of the top 4 allows funds to buy other teams players who constantly state that they are happy where they are until big bucks are given, a la Wayne Rooney (once a blue) Alan Smith (never Man U) Rio (happy at Leeds) Ashley Cole etc. Your own club Spurs have thrown a loadsa money at tryin to break in to the top 4. It is not money that Spurs solely earned, more investments to the club.
I think that most people are hoping that we fail because of the huge investment. It certainly wont be easy. We have to be positive and optomistic and accept our fairy godfathers from the east.

somewhere along the lines i think we are alike?
sunderland like city have been in the shadows of so called bigger clubs,(man u accepted, scum just think they are), we are just after a bit of banter having been tortured for years, we even get silly comments from "scottish football supporters" they have been getting abuse since robert the bruce,
as for the loadsamoney, were it not spurs who went PLC first, blackburn did it for a while, newcastle nearly did it, i'd luv it, i'd luv it year. look what happened to gretna when there money stopped, albeit on a smaller scale,
all, do me all a favour, in your reply to this (i am sure there will be)give me a player that would play for your team for nothing? football IS a loadsamoney thing boys, its a shame but true,
KEEP THE CRACK COMING DAVE, I LUV IT ME

Hi guys,
Nice to have a bit of spiritied banter between all the fans. As a City fan who has been starved of a bit of bragging rights for a lot of years, it would be nice to maybe be involved in the league ( I would accept a easy top 5 for the first year ) and then take it from there. Unfortunately its takes big money to get into that position and where as I do not agree with all the transfer fees and the big wages, its just the way it is. As someone said if the money ever leaves the premiership then the clubs will be in trouble. It would make for a nice discussion over a few pints in PW some night. Maybe we could make some date in Sept. or Oct.. Anyway the season will be starting very soon so its all to play for once again.
Fred

another pale blue comes out of the woodwork - amazing !
Have to disagree with you. Mr Moyes has got Everton fifth palce two years in a row now, & 4th spot a few years back and on a relative shoestring budget. It does not only take money, but a great manager, team spirit, a few decent players that want to play for the shirt (not just the money) and there you have it !
