Shane,

You are quite correct, these managers get paid a lot of money to make decisions, but that was a kop out by Ancellotti, everyone with half a brain knows you cannot play three out and out centre forwards in the same team, there is no width and they all make the same runs. Make a decision, man, and leave one of them out!

How the game has changed, at one time the team ran out five minutes before the game in all weathers, in short sleeve shirts and ploughed straight into it. Fergies reason for playing the hapless Evans against Wolves, when he has not won a defensive header or tackle this season, was that he had completed the warm up and Smalling had not so he had to play Evans and let Smalling do the warm up at half time before he could bring him on. By that time Evans had given them two goals with his non existant marking in the danger areas and it was too late. I would like to ask Sir Alex how many warm ups he completed at Rangers before games and what he would have said to the manager if he was told he was not playing because he was cold!

Although I dont like losing, I am chuffed for Mick McArthy, he is such a likeable down to earth man and he just seems to kop for all the bad luck going so in a perverse sort of way it was nice to see him get some reward for his efforts. Did you see him at the final whistle, he just stood there bewildered and did not know what to do for a few seconds as he rarely gets the rub of the green in situations like that.  Well done to him and his team.

Cheers, Dakey

well what a weekend of footbal that was, bottom club beats top club (betting scam ?), Arsenal collapse (Neil is still in shock), and Louis Saha (HaHa) gets 4 ! - fair dues Dakey on your congrats to Wolves, but that has been on the cards for a while for utd. As for wee Jonny Evans who you continue to castigate, send him over to Moyes (loan of course as we are broke) and he will bring out the potential in the kid. We'll take Rooney back as well cos you lot have ruined him  (well his late night activites may have something to do with it as well.

I was at Goodison for the Blackpool game and that was a roller coaster, head in hands one minute and jumping for joy the next. If only Louis could stay fit week in and out. Have to say Charlie Adam looked a really good player and he will undoubtedly be playing elsewhere next season. I do hope b'pool stay up as they play with abandon and the game needs characters like Holloway (give him the England job !), but will the 'do a Burnley' ? (Gary hopes not).

As for Everton, it could go either way yet but boy do we need investment. Over the park the Kenny factor has kicked and all of sudden they look decent , good business too swopping a player who didn't want to be there for Carroll and Suarez !

Dave,

I am just keeping my powder dry anticipating the run in. Do you realise that since you became the richest club in the world 3 years ago you have not won a Manchester derby! maybe this time, eh? After that shock defeat we have Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool away and City and Chelsea at home coming up. Daunting? yes, but this is where you define a team as being a great team coming through periods like that and it is something to look forward to not be afraid of.

That was the point I was trying to get over to Jay about his beloved 'invincibles'. They went a full season undefeated then started the next season in the same vein. On 49 games they came unstuck at Old Trafford, which happens, but if they had been a truely great team they would have brushed off that defeat and got stronger. What happened? they won one of the next seven games and eventually lost the league to Chelsea by TWELVE points. In fact the club has never recovered from that defeat and have not won the league since. That is why, despite a fantastic one off achievement, they can never be regarded as a great team. Sorry Jay, but thats the way it is mate.

Cheers, Dakey

Sometimes, twisting the truth, sometimes getting excited and sometimes( probably our age), getting forgetful but on my birthday last year 19th Jan Tevez scored 2 in our win at Eastlands.

Its been a good few years since we've gone into it not just wanting to beat United and actually having one of the top places to play for. I've had a lot of heartache over the years since our school days when City won 6 out of 7 derbies at O.T. and drew the other one.

I hope for no controversy, no sending offs, no scandalous refereeing decisions and no 6 minutes of injury time.

Mancini has been entrusted to get a top 4 position this season. Anything higher or cup success is a bonus for him. He believes that not losing the big games seems to be foremost. Just for once, let Tevez and Silva have a free reign.

Our record against the top clubs this season is pretty remarkable in comparison to years gone by. Only Arsenal have scored against us and that, only when we had 10 men.

Enjoy the game. If you go out around Middleton be careful cos there only Blues in the area. Maybe get up an hour early and shoot off to Salford or somewhere else outside of Manchester ha ha. Hope its a good one mate and singin and dancin at the end

Dave x

No Dakey mate, that's just the way YOU wish too see it. The facts are the facts and you seem to love em! The only important fact that I wish to get clearly across to you is we won the premiership unbeaten. An achievement that utd can't do. Looking forward the city v utd match big time, a nice little draw we'll do us nicely. Enjoy fellas Jay

Jay, we can bounce this around all day mate, so i will have my last word on it. I have said many times, fantastic achievement, only ever done once and probably will not be done again by anybody. Great team? not in a million years because of how they responded to the eventual defeat, a legacy that is still ongoing.

Cheers, Dakey

Unlucky City Dave, you well woth the draw but were undone with as good a goal as we've seen this season.

Tremendous finish from rooney although I thought Kompany was brilliant and had him well in his pocket for the entire game but credit due he came up trumps for utd in the end. Gonna have to rely on the chelski nicking a point or two off em now and then april 30th looms large.

By the way that's how you deal with the wolves boys!!

Young JW was brilliant in midfield he's without doubt a star in the making.

Enjoy  ya weekends

Jay

Read it perfectly Jay, gutted but lost to a belter of a finish. Silva should have scored early. We need to pick it back up for a top 4 now. Dakey will be out on the beer for a good few hours yet

Dave,

I have to say, first half Silvsas' chance for a player who can  thread needles was an opportunity sorely missed, but  that is UTD. we never give a chance to anyone. I must say in the move building up to the winner, Rooney mis hit a pass and we were all having a go at him,  then he produces that fdinish. WOW. it looks like us and the gunners now ,but you never know.

Dave,

You read that one correct, if my last post appears incoherant, that was the 15 or so pints of John Willie Lees original lager talking. I thought City played quite well, but we must expect at least that much with the money that has been spent. We keep nicking these late winners against you and it has happened too many times for it to be coincidence. Money can certainly help to narrow the gap, but good management and being able to spot a bargain is Fergies strength and just to highlight that fact I read an interesting snippet today, did you realise that our entire starting back five cost less than you paid for Dzeko! He is so slow that Scholesy our slowest player kept going near him so he would look fast. Someone has sold you a pup there mate and his shot was hitting the corner flag before Silvas back got in the way so I dont go along with the statement that you deserved a draw, you got a lucky deflection and we scored two contenders for goal of the season.

Jay, Wolves at home is one of the easier fixtures while Wolves away is a bit more tricky. However, I am looking forward to the Gunners taking on Barca, should be a classic but you will have to be a lot better than the mauling they gave you last year or you might get more of the same. If Wenger sets up to sit back you have no chance, the one slight weakness they have is at the back so you must go for it with energy and bodies pushed forward and then you never know.

Cheers Dakey

Hello Dakey To be totally honest like most I don't think we stand much of a chance at all against Barca over two legs but I'm still excited over the prospect. You are dead right the Arsenal need to play their natural attacking game and try and outscore them but its certainly a tall order. Apparently they could only manage a draw for the first time in months after winning all the previous umpteen matches. So we live in hope!! Oh and you're right wolves at home is certainly easier than a trip to molineux so that's why our 2-0 win up there deserves merit :-)) Have a good week Jay

Jay,

Just when I thought I could not stand anymore excitement after Citys lungbusting effort last night to sqeeze a draw out of the European giants Aris Salonika ( I think I have spelt it right) of Greece. You come along with that little helping tonight. What a fantastic advertisement for attacking football and to top it off you punished them for settling for a 1-0 win, taking Villa off was complacent and in my opinion they deserved to be punished and they were punished in fine style. It makes it a bit more interesting now, especially if Arsenal can score first, I cant wait for the second leg to come around.

A couple of other interesting points I want to bring up, what with Utd and Arsenal now the only two teams with a realistic chance of the league title and Spurs hitting form and on the heels of City for third place, we could well have three teams who live off their earned income and do business prudently in the top three places and the morally bankrupt vulgar spending City and Chelsea fighting for the Champions league qualifier or Europa cup spot. Who would have thought that eh at the start of the season.

A final point and one that will make things interesting for you I am sure. You mention that you have won the league unbeaten and we will never do it, my hats off to you for that. We have also done something that no other team has done in the history of football and in my humble opinion is a tad more difficult than just winning the league unbeaten and that is to win the proper treble of Champions league, League and FA cup in one season. ( it was actually a quadruple as we closed out the deal and won the World Club Championship later on ). As we come to the end of February there is not that much longer to go and we are still in with a chance of doing it again, however, I note that you also are in with a chance, not only of the treble but an unprecedented quadruple. Now wouldnt that be something? Whatever transpires a brilliant end to a brilliant season beckons ( for some of us that is mate)

Cheers, Dakey

Dakey,

I  admire your optimism & hope your thinking proves correct of course, but having witnessed that performance by Barca last night the rest of Europe & particulalry the premier teams are light years behind.  All credit to the Arse for grinding out a result but for over an hour, that was men against boys.  How Barca lost that game was beyond me - Messi will not be that generous again.    I know the CL is a cup competition, and as such anything can happen, but I hope Fergie concentrates on the PL & FA Cup this year.  Send out the Carling cup team in the CL from now on!!!  Our current lot cannot win the CL & will have 'all-on' beating the Gooners over the line in the PL.    Their annual self destruct button will obviously help, but we have a tough run in and are still not hitting any decent form.  Arse (a), Chelsea (a), Liverpool (a) will not be easy fixtures now & points will be dropped

Lets settle for the double this year, re-group.......spend some of that well earned fortune in the summer & have another go at the CL next term.   As for the Arse........they are 2-1 up at half-time, but honestly speaking I doubt even Jay & Billy will give them much hope in the return.  Thought Willshire played very well - looked very comfortable in very good company.  I don't think I have seen a better club team...... ever!!

Will watch the game against the Scousers in Alhama. As you say....bring it on.

Nick

Hi nick,

Nice to hear from you again, I am a bit more optimistic than you about the CL. This present team of ours are not as easy on the eye as past Utd teams but we have a style that is resiliant coupled with scoring classic goals at the right time. We use this style against the poor mans Barca, Arsenal and we beat them every time, we will just have to step it up a bit against Barca, if they make it past the gunners and you never know.

Dave how have you become a multi millionaire with logic like that! We have had a large debt foistered on us by our poxy owners and we are competing at the very top, winning trophies and also paying the vast interest payments out of our EARNED income. no one is giving us a penny peice, we are generating it ourselves, although I dont expect you blues to understand the principle of running your club like that. I have to say that if present rumours are correct and a rich benefactor takes over and wipes off that paper debt, then god help the rest of you if our earned income is then focussed largely on developing the playing staff. either way we are not bothered as we are doing quite nicely at the moment thank you.

Finally Nick, I too have studied the remaining fixtures and you are right the Gunners have got a much easier run in on paper than we have. It could well get very tight between the top two, pity the rest have been found wanting.

Cheers, Dakey

Come on Jay,

Dont be shy, you can sing it from the rooftops if you like, you have earned your place in the sun. Unlike me who cant keep his big mouth shut I think you are secretly very excited about what could happen for you and you dont want to jinx it. I have studied our fixtures and apart from the difficult 7 away games the 5 home games are not gimmees either, no wonder you are quietly confident. We will have to have a phenomenal run in to keep you at arms length, so come on dont go all coy on us now, tell us what you think. ( if only we could play City every week we would have no problem).

cheers, Dakey

Hello all,

Still in shock Dakey that's all mate.
Can't disagree with all that's been said in the last few posts at all really. Utd's achievement in 99 was totally the best all round result over a season and can't be argued against. To win the big three competitions the way they did, especially with that climatic finish against the Germans will live with us all; as football fans forever. Some can live with it, some can't but hey Ho! It's likely never to be repeated baring in mind how tough our league is in this country so I'm certainly not getting carried away. The arsenal team that were utd's adversaries that year were one of the greatest teams I had the pleasure of watching and they could not have pushed them any harder and in memory I can't remember a better contested league than that. Utd took all the spoils and made history. I had the pleasure of being at villa park that night when giggs scored that goal and I remember clearly walking throgh the park behind the ground thinking that was without doubt the greatest football match I had ever seen.......gutted but exhilarated. It literally had everything.

As for Wednesday's fair well Barca are the greatest team I've ever seen fullstop! They play a different game to the rest of us. The passing is mesmeric our boys could not get to them for an hour but somehow like last year we're still in there with a famous victory. To the arsenals credit they never gave up and apparently the stats say we had more shots and on target which is no mean feat. To have beaten them is a major achievement and will fill them with confidence which bodes well for the games we have coming up in all competitions but whether it will be enough for the camp nou.... I doubt.

Anyway it's the O's we have to focus on now so no rest as they are going well down there at Leyton.

Enjoy the FA Cup lads, for those still in it!!

Jay

Jay,

You are correct mate, through my red tinted glasses I only remember winning the treble that year and I had forgotten just what a formidable team Arsenal had then and when you get into these positions that lady luck plays a massive part in getting you over the line.

When you think about it, apart from brief periods when teams like Chelsea, City and Blackburn even have tried to buy their way onto the top table, it has been basically one long adventure between Utd and Arsenal and I cant help feeling that if Mr Wenger could only see what is in front of him and make the additions that need to be made then that little adventure could run and run for some time yet.

Hats off to Crawley Town as well, they had us rocking a bit near the end there, thats what makes the FA cup what it is and if they do go on to seed the top teams there can only be more possible giant killings which would be brilliant for the fans of lower division clubs,

George, what has happened to your beloved Chelsea? I cant see the manager lasting much longer, what do you think?

Cheers, Dakey
