 Hep,

Couldnt agree more mate, The money being paid to average players is a joke. The PL may well be the most exciting in the world but at the moment it is because the top teams have all 'dumbed down' so the result of every game is in the balance. There is a four way battle for 2nd spot that can change week by week. If we win at Anfield, no easy task, and  Liverpool as well as Spurs would have a mountain to climb. Despite the stutters Chelsea look to have enough in hand but you never know. As the great man used to say, when squeaky bum time hits you the next point looks a million miles away and strange things happen.

Just read that Sheffield Weds new owner is about to spend big to ressurect the clubs fortunes. What is the story on that? is there a chance of seeing a proper club back up there instead of all the present blue bought and paid for brigade. It would be nice to see Weds back up there, I remember my one visit to the stadium and it was bouncing. Denis Law scored 2 for us (may have been 3) but we got pipped 5-4 in what to this day is one of the best games I have ever seen.

Dakey,

It's all a bit vague at the moment, the guy owns John West so have my (fish) fingers crossed that there are no stupid stadium name change ideas. He's thrown enough into the coffers to fund one of those pitches that Arsenal have, so that will be an improvement. Rumours are of Jordan Rhodes joining us for a £12million fee, it's that long since we signed anyone for big money that I can't yet get my head around us not being a skint member anymore, albeit I don't think that Rhodes is worth half of that.

The word on the block is that the club are waiting for any flack that the result of the Hillsborough enquiry directs our way. I've known of David Duckenfield's absolute guilt for many years, all this regret stuff is a little late, as he was a bare faced liar until he drew his pension. The fans would like to see a new Leppings Lane Stand, we can't bring back the dead, it's to be hoped that we can be allowed to move on, albeit continuing to show respect.

We had a good track record against Man Utd, just a pity that it's not as good against Sheff Utd. We took four points off you guys in the final season prior to the Premiership, and that's after beating you at Wembly in the League Cup final, whilst being a second tier club, Brian Robson was so impressed with Nigel Pearson's performance that he signed him up when he was Middlesborough manager.

The future is bright, hopefully it's blue and white. yes

Whatever else was wrong would not have been an issue, had he not ordered the gate to be opened. I know the ground like the back of my hand, I could compile a 'should have done' list, but it wouldn't have been as effective as DD not ordering the gate to be opened.

Please don't throw 'drunken Liverpool supporters without tickets' at me, there is always a bit of pre match drinking, and there are always folk without tickets, what you don't do is open the gate and let them in en masse. Just out of interest the identical semi was played the previous year, Liverpool had the kop then.

Well DD has now admitted 100% responsibility for all 96 deaths, if anyone knows any different they should contact the enquiry without delay.

There are people to blame, lessons to be learned etc, but the simple answer and I admit it is easy with hindsight, is the fences should have been easily removable from the pitch side with people there for just that reponsibility. Any problems with overcrowding through whatever reason, just remove the fences and hey presto, lots of people on the pitch, but no fatalities.

On the football front, That tonight, was as good a performance by Arsenal as I have seen from an English team for ages.....BUT, how the hell did that shower of tripe score 3 at the Emirates? they are going to get battered by whoever they face next.

The fences should have had the same explosive bolts that those on the continent had, the match commander could than have pushed the button, nevertheless, not opening the gates would not have had any fatal consequenses. I appreciate that someone who has attended matches at Hillsborough from the 1950's wouldn't know as much about the geography of the ground as those who caught footage of the aftermath of the disaster on their tv sets, however consider this.

The Leppings Lane lower was not only fenced in at the ground level, it was also segmented by three fenced cages, anyone who has been in that stand will appreciate that you automitically ended up in the centre and then spread out, over filling the already full centre by opening the gate was tantermount to murder.

The wonderfully efficient South Yorkshire Police later visited the families of the dead, not to offer sympathy, but to attempt to persuade them that their decased family member's match ticket stub had been returned to them in error, not one of the dead was ticketless.

We now have our finest ignoring the rape of thousands of under aged girls by Pakistani males, you couldn't make it up.

The design and suitability of Hillsborough left much to be desired..

the leppings lane end at the pitch fence was a disaster waiting to happen, you had to escape the front by getting up steps to get to the pitch and also be blocked by gate partitions inside which effectively stopped people moving along the fence to a gate exit..

The ambulance service took too long before they realised it was serious.

The FA should have given Liverpool the Spion Kop end due to fan  numbers.

There have been crush injuries prior to this at that ground with fans climbing over the Leppings Lane fences, Spurs v Wolves in 1981, the warning was there then!!.

I never mentioned drunken fans Hep, the fans at the front who died were blameless as they got there in good time and took up their position within the ground, if all the other fans had done  the same as they did the year before maybe we wouldnt be debating this now.

DD should not have took charge of this match and he froze on the day in my opinion and got no support from other senior officers who were far more experienced with games of this magnitude than he was.

DD didnt get up that morning thinking his actions were going to result in so many deaths, he made mistakes like all humans do and the consequences are there for all to see.

DD could have opened those gates without deaths if he had closed the central pen wooden doors 1st which would have ensured that incoming fans were diverted to the side pens where there was room for them.

If DD didnt open the gates then there would probably have been deaths outside the turnstiles where the fans were crammed into the bottleneck that was the approach to the LL end. Bad design for a ground IMO..

Lets see what the outcome is at the Inquest..

chaddy,

Just cast your mind back to the away end at Old Trafford in 1989, if you got to the front it was like being in the trenches, your head was almost parallel with the pitch. And then there was the pitch in the middle of a dog track at Stamford Bridge, how things have changed.

SWFC post the disaster, seated all standing areas and then ran out of ideas, prior to running out of money, we had an idiot for a chairman, who is now chairman of the FA Premier League, so that's in safe hands. I guess that most police officers on duty on the day will now have retired and are drawing their generous pensions, DD has admitted his culpability, what do the relatives of the dead expect to achieve all these years on?

Fellas,

On a lighter note, hats off to Joe Hart...... he made more saves tonight than he has all season!! MOM by a country mile. If our joke champions had conceded 20 over the 2 legs it would have reflected the difference between the two teams.

There have been a few half decent efforts by our clubs this season, but in general have we ever entered a more hapless useless quartet than this years ensemble??

Hep,

I dont know what the families want, I will leave that to the mighty powers of the inquest teams that are in place at the minute.

What I do know is DD shouldnt be the scapegoat for this disaster...

And on a lighter note Joe is the England No 1.... LOL

If anyone wants to debate the Hillsborough disaster feel free as I have vast knowledge of it!!

What a messi to maka, however Joe Hart can hold his head high, but why isn't anyone at least willing to try to take Messi on? As the wonderful Premier League is supposedly the best in the world, why doesn't it have the best teams in the world? It wouldn't be difficult to name 19 teams from other EU leagues that are better than our current offerings, I have left Arsenal out of the equasion, as they at least had a damned good go at Monaco, and they always play attractive football.

If anyone is really interested in South Yorkshire Police incompetence due to external forces they should read Graham's Storr's book, 'Booper's Prison Tale'. I knew Graham back in the 80's, he was a tough CID sergeant who turned to the dark side, he was DD's best mate, but what would I know? wink

In real terms England v Lithuania is  equivalent to a top premiership club playing Rotherham, but having said that, some premiership clubs came unstuck in cup games against lowly opposition this season. England did their job, I just hope that RH doesn't play 4-3-3 against the Italians and that HK starts.

Wow this site has gone a bit quiet in my absence. Obviously youre all getting bored watching cfc march towards the title and another double. Anyway just wanted to mention that another 4 wins and the title should be in the bag which might stop a few l'arse fans from getting too excited  and looking fwd to taking the usual 50 e from dakey which i will happily to use to buy the more friendlier users of this site a drink should you bump into me in the clover in the next 5 weeks as im just packing for my trip back to espana.hope to see a few of you there.happy daze.
