being an arsenal fan on transfer deadline day must be like a kid in detention watching all his mates playing soccer outside.

£35m for Andy Carroll...slightly overpriced I think

Liverpool hardly ever play 2 up front and now they've swapped Torres for 2 new strikers...change of strategy maybe.  Not a bad idea as currentones haven't been working.

Torres and Drogba...not a bad combo

Class and heritage can never be bought but then you lot must know that by now. Why wait to the end of the transfer window? It must be the most uneconomical way to conduct business as Liverpool had chelski over the barrell and have royally rumped roman and his rotten roubles. I think canny kenny has had the last laugh and the carroll signing is definitely the deal of the day. The Torres signing is a desperate act from a very desperate outfit. 50 million for a player who's injury record is as bad as his is a really massive gamble especially on a 5 & 1/2 year deal. Let's see how many appearances he makes over that time. Arsenal only buy players that will fit their style of play and who will fit the ethos of the club. We do not buy injury prone players because of a mad ego maniac chairman who likes to pick the team and sack coaching staff on a whim. Let's see how the wage demands go down from Terry & cashley over the next few days. They'll be hammering down the door no doubt. Jay Jay

Carroll could be a good buy but £35m for someone a year into the premiership....will have to be the best striker in the league for it to be worthwhile.  The money is not really relevant to Liverpool I suppose...basically swapped one striker for two.

Torres is out of form but he is a class player and I won't be surprised if he starts knocking them in for Chelsea.  Anyway Roman  probably paid for him out of spare cash he found around his living room.  Think Torres will fit in well.

Seems Arsenal, Utd, and Spurs did no business...and surprisingly I didn't heasr any big deals from City either.  Then again if you're smart you do your buying in the summer (if you have financial constraints that is).

Jay,

Fergie very rarely buys in the Jan window, it smacks of desperation to me. Utd, then Arsenal have spent nothing but have set a high benchmark so the argument is why should we? It is the rest who must improve to get where we are now, so we will stick to our tried and trusted policy of evaluation then purchase in the summer time as well as bring the kids through gradually. It has not let us down yet. Marry that policy with the occasional major buy and you have cracked it. Its stoked it up for the rest of the season though, who will triumph? the big spenders or the careful planners, we shall see.

You say they opened the gates at Highbury at half time Jay, bloody hell and I thought you lot left early these days, was it really half time in those days?

Cheers Dakey

Dakey......

I aint gonna bite on the gate remark mate but nothing makes me madder than watching some numpty get up and leave with 10 mins to go when the game is still on a knife's edge especially if they aint gonna sneak upstairs!!!

What another tough test the Arsenal boys had to face tonight. How are Everton having the season they are?? They were very good tonight with Fellaini having a really excellent game in midfield. The Gooners did not get the rub of the green tonight with probably one of the worst Offside decisions I have seen in recent times leading to a the Saha goal. A really terrible mistake from the officials but maybe those tough games in the cup recently have made a difference because we came out second half and were relentless until we turned it right round. With Utd and Chelski winning it was vital to win.

Bring on the toon!

Jay,

Some good stuff last night and two gritty second half displays from the Gunners and Chelski to avert potentially damaging results. However, these battling displays amount to nothing as long as we keep winning and it appears ( even without speding the town hall clock in the window) that our squad looks strong and the performances are ratcheting up a notch, just like we normally do at this time. So, keep plugging away and hope for the best, but dont get your hopes up too high then you wont end up too disappointed at the end.

Cheers, Dakey

Oh deary me Dave,

Thats you out of it mate. At least when Chelseas Billionaire started throwing silly money at it, they won top trophies immediately. You, after three years are struggling to reach a top 4 slot.

I see the pressure of the new Eufa rules are having an effect at Eastlands, in an attempt to maximise income they are bringing out a book series featuring the players in a 'Mr Men' format. The first book comes out next week with Dzeko in the leading role of 'Mr Sitter'.

Farewell and thank you Gary Neville, brilliant servant and fabulous trophy laden career, but you are correct, it is definately your time to bow out, thanks for the memories. ( perhaps City will come in with a 23 million pound bid)

Cheers, Dakey

My view is that is two points dropped against Newcastle but a massive point gained against utd!!! Dakey sorry pal there will only ever be one team that are known as the unbeatables and that is the GUNNERS! The one only team to go unbeaten in a season and be the greatest league winning team in HISTORY we are the invincibles we are ARSENAL Let's hope the Micky mousers can turn it right on tomorrow! Football is MAD Jay

Yep, an unbelievable day.

Utd go away to the bottom team in the league odds on to win the premiership after Arsenal blew the biggest lead in premiership history.  Then Utd manage to lose for the first time in the league this season to a team that stays bottom even after the win.

Have to say Wenger and Arsenals whingeing is getting sickening.  They play nice football but their players are now getting the reputation as very bad losers.  Have to question the captain and the leaders of the team and their abiltiy to get the team to focus.  I really thought they had a chance to catch Utd but if Chelsea win tomorrow, and win well, I think they will be confident on having a good run at the title.

Good to see Spurs manage to grind out another win.  Amazing to think with all the goals scored today (a record) there were only 2 wins by more than one goal

Whoops! Never saw that one coming, on the bright side it could have been worse, we could have thrown away a FOUR goal lead! I prefer to applaud the achievement rather than condemn the performance. I think everyone agrees that this Utd team is not among our best ever so for this set of players to equal the 99 treble winners, who were a fantastic team and equal a club record, is in fact a phenomenal achievement, So i do applaud them, but now they have to show what every Utd team in the last 20 odd years has shown, apart from the obvious task of keeping the pack at arms length. We have to bounce back from a bad result and start again and ultimately that is what this team will be judged on.

Jay, I do applaud your invincibles for going a season unbeaten ( with 13 draws) but to laud them as the best team ever is laughable. They never even retained the league title which is a sign of a great team in fact I dont think the gunners have ever retained a title have they? certainly not in the modern era. They never won in europe either, in fact they did not win much else after that apart from the FA cup when you never came out of your own half for 120 minutes when we hit the woodwork 4 times and you nicked it on pens.Your last trophy, by the way. So great individual stand out achievement? yes, Great team? In Arsenals history maybe. In the context of what a great team is judged on? Dont make me laugh!

Cheers, Dakey

We whinge with reason. Look where that fat pr*ck Dowd was in this little clip and tell me if you can; how Barton was still on the pitch in second half to committ the tackle on Diaby that was reminicent of the tackle by Shawcross on Ramsey.

What Diaby did was wrong and I dont condone it in any way but it was under extreme provocation.

Blah balah blah.

After all that bluster you lost at Molineux ...........................................................No Points Get over it!

You lost at the milennium when you hit the post 4 times...............................No FA Cup Get over it

The premiership is  about points mate however badly our teams do. Yesterday our team was better than your team to the tune one 1 point.........................Get over it!!

Finally you will never sing this song................................................................Get over it! I know I will.

Jay,

A little touchy there mate, I am over it already. Looking forward to the big games coming up against City, Chelsea and yourselves. still getting my breath back from all those goals and excitement yesterday. plenty more to come I hope. I was merely pointing out that one of the accepted barometers of a truely great team is not  the one off success but the repeating of that sucess next time around and no matter what I am able to sing or not sing, you have not managed to meet those standards yet and we have on countless occasions.

Cheers, mate and calm down

Dakey

Jay,

I'm not talking about the one incident.  It seems more and more of late there is always an excuse for Arsenal.  It is never we weren't good enough on the day. Its always we didn't play to our best but.... or the opposition played well but....

I was a big fan of Fabregas but now I think he acts like a spoilt brat always throwing his toys and blaming everyone but himself for the results.

I am not saying Diaby wasn't on the end of a bad tackle.  But the end result was he wasn't injured and he let himself down and his team down by his reaction.  It wasn't Bartons fault or Nolans fault that he started pushing and shoving them.  In saying that Nolan could have redcarded for the incident with the GK later on and personally I'd be happy for anyone to clock Barton. But it was plain stupid by Diaby.

The bottom line is that a contender for the title was 4 up at HT.  Even with one man down the blame is squarely on the players not the ref.  Remember Newcastle had a perfectly good goal disallowed for offside.

But it isn't only Arsenal that do this.

Cheers

Shane

must admit liverpool had the better tactics and deserved to win. chelsea should have had a penalty for a blatant shove. another bad refereing decision but that would have detracted from a  very good liverpool performance.strange weekend all round, looking forward to the man u mancity game next weekend. a man u win would secure the title imho.
