Mickeyfinn, you are right when you state, "Keeping the remaining 27 nations together after Brexit will be the primary focus of the EU Commission going forward" Of course it will be the EU's primary focus after UK's exit from the EU, they are not going to want their membership to dwindle further are they? You are stating the obvious, but you end it with another of your breathtaking sweeping statements, " Britain will be out in the cold and it will feel the icy draft very soon." yes we will be out, but is it going to be so cold, and how do you know its going to be an icy draft? Again its a sweeping statement driven by only your belief, rather than informed, accurate observation. Just why are you so negative about the UK and its post EU membership condition, when no one knows what is to happen after the split?

Well done to NS in standing up for the will of the Scottish people.

When will NI start their demands for a referendum and support the will of the people of Northern Ireland

Guys

The world is permanently divided with opposite views and opinions

Islam - Christianity

Shiite- Sunni

Catholic- Protestant

Zulu- Xhosa

Rangers - Celtic

Republic - Democrat

Conservative Unionist - Socialist

Communist - Capitalist.

Many views are a complete diversity so surely to attempt for us to work together, life ends up being a compromise to please a majority all all times no matter how big that majority.

It is NEVER possible to appease both the fors and the against.

What are you suggesting?

I suppose if sturgeon comes up with a one off payment to clear Scotland's part of the UK national debt that they helped to run up the UK government will  probably consider letting Scotland have independence ...The same goes for NI.

windtalker

and the EU does the same to the UK

The UK govt cannot stop Scotland leaving just as much as they cannot make them stay

The people of Scotland (and NI) will decide NOT Westminster

Nicola Sturgeon was lucky to attain the position she holds with her Scottish reactionary views. She got a Scottish referendum, which she lost, so now she is trying to stir unrest in the Scottish electorate by demanding a remain referendum for Scotlands inclusion in the EU. All very commendable, but you have to look at the underlying intention which is to return Scotland to self rule, a desire that instigated the Scottish referendum in the first place. As she is dissatisfied with the result (just as the English remain camp are with Brexit) she is trying all ways to instigate a second independence referendum. Nicola Sturgeon is poison to the Scottish electorate, and Scotland as a country. She should be building on the partnership Scotland has enjoyed for more than 300 years, and concentrate more on promoting Scotlands identity within the UK.

This might sound a little contradictory when compared to the EU brexit question, but Scotland has existed as a member of the UK for hundreds of years with great stability, whereas the UK has only been in the EU for forty years. No comparison somehow.

An aside, Nicola Sturgeon was asked what she would propose over border controls between Scotland and the UK if she was successful, and she didnt have an answer........

Nicola Sturgeon has just announced her hope to have a referendum for Scottish independence in 2018 to 2019 after brexit has occured. This only as breaking news confirms what i just stated about Nicola Sturgeon and the fact she is poisionus. She is nothing but trouble for all Scottish people.

"Sturgeon has warned that May’s plans for a hard Brexit, taking the UK out of the single market, “undoubtedly” made that a more likely prospect.

......writing in Holyrood magazine, the Prime Minister said her party would be “looking forward to the local elections in May, when voters across Scotland will have the chance to send a clear message to the SNP that they do not want a second independence referendum, by voting Scottish Conservative and Unionist”.

Meanwhile, Scottish Labour has launched a dedicated website TogetherStronger.scot, where people can register their objection to a possible second independence referendum.

Leader Kezia Dugdale called on people to do so if they “believe that our country is already divided enough”, the Press Association reported."

how can standing up for the will of your people be poisoness

Scotland voted to remain and therefore they have right to leave a union that is taking them down a route they do not wish to go

Th English (UK) do not like where the EU is going and have voted to leave but other natons should not be drageed against their will

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the official title of the state. Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England are often called the Home Nations. All of them can be described as countries, or nations, as can the UK in its entirety. None of them are independent states, however.

Tadd Scotland may have voted by a majority to remain but their vote is taken as part of the entire UK referendum, something that was given to all member countries of the UK. Yes Scotland voted to remain, but that remain vote was part of the total remain vote which wasnt the MAJORITY nationwide. So due to democracy, the final vote was to LEAVE. note that it was a DEMOCRATIC vote that Nicola Sturgeon is attemptimg to subvert with her poison.

The case for Brexit economists will now need to be recognised and examined in full, so watch this space with regard to fear tactics and repeated attempts to dismiss these analyses as was the ploy in the lead up to the Brexit vote........the difference now being that the remain economists got the short-term forecasting completely wrong, whereas the Brexit economists proved far more realistic. Surely the British public wont fall for yet more fear mongering tactics without due consideration in the form of thorough good intellectual analyses that factor in where the previous economists got it so wrong????

Personally Ads i take most of the press, and any other source of information with extreme caution, as its easy to misinform the public with false, or distorted, facts and figures. I am far more realistic in that i am prepared to see what the market does post EU, and how it develops after.

What others on this thread prefer to do is shower doom and gloom and personal opinion about the events (as if personal opinion will make any difference), and pontificate on what MIGHT be instead of actual outcome. Me i will prefer to wait, and hope both sides see there is a life after the UK goes alone.

neither do a lot of Scottish people

The decision is in the hands of the people of Scotland.

I said very early on this brexit vote will be decided one way or another by the English vote simply based on numbers not very democratic for a 4 nation union but never mind

Mayeb England can get an indpendance vote but why would they want to lose control of 3 other states

The UK will change drastcially as we know it

In 2014 I hoped that Scotland remained in the union of the Uk as we are better together and was very happy they did

When they get a vote again  I will respect their choice and hope they choose to remain in the EU and rid themselves of English rule once and for all. Brexit has shown me how bad the UK has become

The people of Scotland voted to remain part of the UK at the last referendum in part because the UK was a full member of the EU. The people of Scotland want to remain in the EU so the previous conditions of the referendum vote on independence have fundamentally changed.

It is therefore in my opinion entirely proper that a second independence referendum be carried out to take account of the changed circumstances of the UK as a whole.

It is also democratic justification afterward if the vote is then the same as before for the UK as a whole to exit the EU.

You cannot force a nation, for that’s what Scotland is to exit the EU against the peoples will.

Your scenario is forcing the UK to ignore the democratic vote of the MEMBER STATE of the United Kingdom, Mickeyfinn.

The nations within that state form the whole.
