I recall a significant poster stating that the UK was 'a small insignifican country', the remaining 27 best get ready for very significant taxation increases.

I do think we should leave Boris at the other side when we lock the borders though.

ALL citizens should be writing enmasse to the EU Commission, to stress that if they achieved a mutually beneficial trade deal it would be to the benefit of ALL European citizens and that it's time to stop the division and threats, and stop playing political games with innocent citizen's lives.

We should hold them responsible if they fail to demonstrate a willingess to seek out mutually beneficial terms, just as they did with Canada.

Why should a neighbouring country that has expressed their desire to leave the union for legitimate reasons specific to their country be treated any differently than a nation such as Canada, that has not contributed to the EU over the years in the manner that the UK has?

Neither side should really have any interest in tarriffs or penalties, it can only damage both sides. Unlike outside countries we start from a position of zero tarriffs. So there is no need for prolonged discussion to reach this state. It is easy for the EU to treat us 'better' than Canada or any outside state where there is a large adjustment from the current status Quo.

The speech by the Malta PM is nonsense when he says 'we should not reward anyone by making it better to be outside'. If he believes in the EU, then for him, it is by definition better in and penalising us would damage that situation.

What is best for the UK in most cases is what is best for the EU and with goodwill both side should recognise this. Making threats like the Malta PM, Boris, M Hollande and incredibly Philip Hammond is just not constructive.

Once uncertainty clears, if people feel that their ability to set up shop in the UK and operate throughout the geographical area that is the European Union is not working as well as it did, the investment decision will change.

"In the same vein, if exports are subject to significant tariffs, restrictions and so on and so forth, the ability of the UK to activate that trade engine is going to be reduced.

"So while we have upgraded our forecasts for 2017, we have downgraded for 2018 ... We are still of the view that it will not be positive all along and without pain."

Christine Lagarde IMF Chair

It is not the EU who will ensure there is a price to pay for Brexit but market forces and political realities. The idea that Britain would be economically better off outside the world’s largest trading block is not realistic. Any free trade deal will have to reflect réal politique to discourage other nations who may dislike the cost of EU membership.

Britain has chosen to be an independent nation and control its borders and restrict immigration. The price for that is in future less GDP growth and a poorer economic performance. You cannot have your cake and eat it too.

The government know that quite well; it’s the public who support Brexit that need to accept the consequences of their vote.

In other words punish them to stop others leaving. If the EU is really as good as you think, why would anyone else want to leave? EU = No democracy

One mans punishment is another mans justice. Punishment is a prerogative word. In politics it’s realities that matter. As Richard Nixon so eloquently said once ‘when you have someone by the balls their hearts and minds follow’.

Tadd if you read the article it included an an account of a commons comittee meeting in which those views were expressed. The Guardian 'gutter press' hardly.

every newsaper in the UK is gutter press and the guardian proved themselves gutter presss again

I am not a brexiter but there has been no statement confirming that all UK citizens will no longer have cover and may have to return to the UK. Just as no EU citizens currently living and working in the UK may have to leave the UK or will no longer be covered under UK rules of residency etc.

New migrants may have probelsm if freedom of movement is removed for UK citzens moving to the EU and vice versa but people will still migrate all over the world as they have done for years

The ones I see at risk in Spain are the UK illegals who do not pay into the system

As has said before the UK has reciprocial and bilateral agreements for many things inclduing tax and health care with countries outside of the EU

Yes you are right about the commons comittee but they are ONLY views not FACTS

The press should not be publishing scaremonegring stories that are simply not factual and true hence gutter press

The UK will suffer from self inflicted punsihment as businesses, like HSBC, start moving their operations out of the UK

From the start to this point there has been so much emotion on the part of Remainers and Leavers, none of which have really taken the time to think about the emotions of the remaining EU citizen's.

I am astonished at the idea that Leavers expect the remaining EU citizen's to throw open their arms and welcome a new deal from the UK.

Brexit has been often likened to a Divorce.  Well, if you know anything about divorce you will realise that the person who gets dumped (EU) is very unlikely to want the person who jilted them (UK) to get a good financial deal.

Of course this is all helped along by our marrige counsellor...Boris Johnson.

We are going to get so done over in this deal...

Now Micky you are going to explain, maybe to us, definitely to me, how restricting those who should not be in the UK are going to effect the UK's future in the way you speak of, please don't go down the same old road of 'Never be able to control it' or the other old chestnut 'They help the UK' heard all these excuses so many times before.

I have read in an Australian news report that due to BREXIT the UK government has given all UK TV broadcasters (Sky, BT, Virgin, etc) 18 months notice to stop transmitting into Europe and elsewhere.  They have been instructed to cut back their satellite signal to within the UK only. They have also been instructed to restrict all internet broadcasting to UK IP address’s only and to implement proxy server detection. They have also been told to detect any illegal and unauthorised broadcasting.

I don't know the details, but why can't we have a trade (free) deal with the EU similar to the one they have signed with Canada?

I wonder when Scotland will call for a second independent referendum ,if and when they do the the English hating  SNP party will have to put forward a clear mandate to the voters not just IN or OUT ,the people of Scotland have got to understand that they will now be voting to leave the UK and hand the keys of their country over to the EU .

----------------------------------------

Because it took about 7 years to agree and doesn't extend to financial services which makes up a very substantial part of the UK plc's GDP. The UK will undoubtedly get free trade deals with other country's, but the terms will be a matter of negotiation eg apparently India is requesting, as a matter of principle, special arrangements for free movement of its nationals to the UK  in return for free trade- unlikely to go down well in some quarters in the UK.

The UK’s value as a hub for broadcasters to beam their programmes across Europe is at threat if it leaves the EU single market, television companies have warned.  More than 650 different TV channels are broadcast from the UK to countries across the EU, more than double the number based in nearest rival France. Under EU country of origin rules, media groups that have their headquarters in London are permitted to broadcast across the bloc through a licence issued by Ofcom, the UK regulator. If the British government surrenders access to the single market as part of the UK’s Brexit negotiations, the TV companies fear those licences will no longer be valid, ending their freedom to broadcast all over Europe. “The UK’s status as Europe’s leading international broadcast centre is at risk,” said Adam Minns, the Executive Director of the Commercial Broadcasters Association, a trade body that represents the companies.

Just another small snippet about what Potblack posted.

Anyone would think that we don't import anything from other EU nations, and as for a cobbled together trade deal with the EU post Brexit, they have had us in a full body plaster cast since the commencement of the EU Super State, why accept a pair of crutches when we are capable of standing unaided?
