Briando55

I got very little response other than from a Labour MEP (since replaced or retired) who did his best to bring this to others attention, but his final response was that he could go no further. The response I got from the then Vice President of the European Parliament (since replaced) was that they had no means at their disposal to adequately address concerns given the current treaty arrangements. Says it all really.

a gut feeling about a kind of society

I have gut feelings, but when I examine the facts I often find them to be misplaced.

The only way we can affect the sort of society we live in is if we live in a democracy.

The EU affects us more as each year passes and is demonstratalbly undemocratic. The society it is building may be in the minds of some in the commision but it certainly does not flow from the individual.

The only possible way you can vote if you want to be able to influence the kind of society you live in is out.

I have lived in Europe and in the UK. And while I do not dislike the traits of the other nations find the British to be more fair minded and less discriminatory than any of the other nations (except perhaps the Spanish - but then historically this will not always have been true).

I trust and like my fellow British citizens (even those with a differing political outlook to myself) and am confident in them being able to build a fair society in the UK where, if we leave, we will have the democratic ablity to do so.

As an individual, due to the lack of democracy, we have no way of affecting the direction of the EU and as a nation we are one small outvoted voice in 27.

OMarel..

"MANXMONKEY the Russians Norwegians are not in the EU so it does not apply to them. They are merely investors and are welcomed to bring their money to Spain. The English are no longer investors when they leave consequently they will be a burden therefore no longer welcome"...are you serious?  I am not sure if you are being sarcastic or you somehow think there's any logic to it.  This is the biggest nonsense I've ever read. If a Chinese man or woman buys a house in the Algarvel or Marbella and moves in, bases himself there and obtains his passport how is he different from an Australian, Malaysian or Welshman?

Golf

Lucky man. I suspended my club membership for 6 months due to my hip in December. Had frequently been unable to play. At present it does not look as if I will be renewing at the end of the month either.

Perhaps if we had been able to suspend our EU membership until it was better we may not have got to here.

Off thread guys!....

Has anyone noticed this - just wondered if this has anything to do with what was posted earlier in this thread? It states

" European Regulators are about to decide whether to give big telecoms corporations the power to influence what we can (and can’t) do online. Europe urgently needs clear net neutrality guidelines to protect our freedoms and rights online. We have until July to help Europe protect the open Internet. "

Don't worry Hep.

Racist is a term of abuse that some members of our society throw around like confetti if they do not like your point of view.

Despite getting on well with the Fijian and other minorities I worked with, and despite my pride in my country when we took in the Ugandan & Kenyan asians who we had some responsibility to and were  in real fear for their lives, and despite being one of the few that got on with my asian neighbours (one of only two who went, of the many in our street who were invited to the daughter's wedding) I have been called a racist and even a facist for being in general against immigration.

At such times I know it is not I that have the closed mind.

Tteedd ..ooh sorry I didn't "like" that you have a bad hip...mine is shot too! And as for racist as a term, I've had guns put in my face through my work in anti-trafficking, my partners when I was younger were were first a Pakistani then an Indian (muslim then Hindu) and my family are from everywhere but if I complain about something I'm a racist...even when recently I didn't even know the council employee I complained against was a recent immigrant.  I just dream of someone somewhere doing a half decent job or at least treating me civilly...dream on.  "Old white men" being the BBC and Labour Party's preferred term of abuse I just assume nowadays that whatever goes wrong it'll be my fault.

Save the internet.

Need to know more of what the EU is trying to do, but it does not look good.

Mind you the web/internet needs some policing. It is like the wild west at the moment.

We should make the service providers responsible for what they purvey. If it cannot be published in the press then it should not be published online.

There was a big outcry when this was done to retailers, but in the event it worked well.

Oh, I know here would be much hollering, saying it can't be done. But we would only have to prosecute the worst cases before every one came into line.

Apparently the FTSE100 has surged because the referendum campaign has been suspended due to the death of Jo Cox, I don't believe this for a minute, it's only been suspended, not cancelled, if the state of the stock market can be affected by this tragic event, then there was little wrong with it before.

No Heph.  The FTSE small increase is because I just sold a bunch of shares. I have a friend who asks me to let him know what I sell so he can buy them quicly before they rocket!

Off the back of Jo Cox's tragic death Hephaestus?  Reference to trading in this context seems incredibly insensitive.

Just log into todays Yahoo FTSE100 page and read about the index surge due to the campaign suspension, and then get in touch with them, not me.

The politicians have returned to campaigning so we all should too.

This will finally make your mind up if you had not done so already.

Well done Farage your poster is shocking I feel like you in the poster walking around the UK I have returned to after so many years.

Osbourne you are a proper wimp your interview on Peston was utterly shocking when asked hand on heart you could tell you had made it up.

RIP Jo Cox

And I am not racist as my husband Stu is Goan before anyone says THAT.

EU is a gravy train this video confirms that

Love Hugh xx
