Micky said:

Even after Brexit half of the British population and a majority in parliament will remain Europhiles. That is a future recipe for an un-governable state.

When has 48% equalled HALF, also you may find just the reverse happens when the Remainers & Europhiles are proved to be wrong and we find that we can live without EU interference. We did in the past.

Civil Service Code

  • ‘integrity’ is putting the obligations of public service above your own personal interests
  • ‘honesty’ is being truthful and open
  • ‘objectivity’ is basing your advice and decisions on rigorous analysis of the evidence
  • ‘impartiality’ is acting solely according to the merits of the case and serving equally well governments of different political persuasions

Integrity

You must:

  • fulfil your duties and obligations responsibly
  • always act in a way that is professional5 and that deserves and retains the confidence of all those with whom you have dealings6
  • carry out your fiduciary obligations responsibly (that is make sure public money and other resources are used properly and efficiently)
  • deal with the public and their affairs fairly, efficiently, promptly, effectively and sensitively, to the best of your ability
  • ensure you have Ministerial authorisation for any contact with the media7
  • keep accurate official records and handle information as openly as possible within the legal framework
  • comply with the law and uphold the administration of justice

Political Impartiality

You must:

  • serve the government8, whatever its political persuasion, to the best of your ability in a way which maintains political impartiality and is in line with the requirements of this code, no matter what your own political beliefs are
  • act in a way which deserves and retains the confidence of ministers, while at the same time ensuring that you will be able to establish the same relationship with those whom you may be required to serve in some future government
  • comply with any restrictions that have been laid down on your political activities

Quote from the Daily Telegraph following the announcement of Sir Ivan Rogers resignation:-

"It is a useful rule of thumb that if Nick Clegg and Peter Mandelson consider a particular event to be a potential disaster for the country then it will actually turn out perfectly well".

Guess what they said about this event.

😉

I stand by my position gents.  Unless you Brexiters can get me and the other 48% onside Brexit is going to fail.  Governments have fallen with a much lower resistance level than that and don't forget, remainers are the majority in Parliament.

Ads - Many who voted Brexit do not relate to right wing thinking and generalisations that attempt to link the two does a grave disservice to the rational reasoning behind their decision to vote to come out of the European Union.

Wrong interpretation of my post. I was referring to the Conservative Parliamentary Party not the electorate. They and the rise of UKIP pressured successive Tory government leaders into making the referendum commitment. I include most of the current cabinet in that point. Most leaders worth their salt would have resisted such a disastrous move. Cameron was weak and simply wanted to see off the Lib Dem coalition as well as curry political favours among, to quote John Major -  ‘the bastards’.

Also Labour support for Millband ebbed away as the electorate’s ambition for a referendum took some precedence over a Labour Government.

It will be interesting to see if Cameron writes the truth in his forthcoming memoirs for which he was paid a king’s ransom advance.

I agree with PP unless you can carry the Europhile population of Britain nothing will ever work.

MPs that stand by the remain camp, when clearly are in a leave area will be ousted from office and replaced with a trusty Brexiteer. Power to the people......

windtalker,

Even Corbyn  agrees with you on this one, Labour would be virtually wiped out if their MP's voted against their constituents wishes in the event of Mrs May calling a 'snap' general election, he's mooted that he will impose the party whip.

You missed the point.  No MP is going to vote in favour of a deal that would see the UK wrecked.  They would go to the polls and be voted out of office before doing that.  The 48% will be all over their MP's if they see a bad deal for the UK going for a paliamentary vote.

I will keep saying it until it sinks in.  Bexiters, unless you get the remainers on your side, Brexit will fail.

"I agree with PP unless you can carry the Europhile population of Britain nothing will ever work."

Believing britain to be better off outside the EU does not mean that you are not Europhile. I voted to leave, have been to 9 countries in europe, lived in three and quite like all of them.

Nearly all remainers and exiters want what is best for Britain. The only diference is we have a different belief on the route for getting it. The decision about whether we wish to remain in the EU or not has been taken.

Everybody with the UK's interests at heart should therefore be looking for the best result for Britain from the exit negociations.

To feel that you need to be carried is a most curmudgeonly attitude.

Come off it tteedd you know full well my meaning. If the national politics of a future Britain are polarised by a government that are solely intent on putting forward the Brexit philosophy because of one referendum they will marginalise the remainers who represent half the voting population give or take.

You may think that's perhaps a desirable position. Democracy is about governing for everyone and this current UK government had better start learning the skills. The lessons of history awaits anything less.
