Hotels with a heart in Spain
Saturday, December 27, 2014

Some days ago, I heard nice news, about some Spanish parents, who were helped by some Hotel workers.

The story began when workers of the NH Hotels Group decided to  help those parents, who had children being treated in some hospitals, which were located near their hotels, in order that they would not have to travel back and too each day from their homes as some of them were living some distance away.

The news depicted some of those involved;  Daniel and his wife spent four months, in several NH Hotels, that were close to the hospital, where their son was being treated.

After their stay, they sent the staff a lovely letter, that touched their hearts. Through the “Hotels with a heart” program, the staff help families with children hospitalized far from their homes, by donating rooms; so, they can stay together.

At the end, the staff said: “With all our heart, Merry Christmas!”.

Well, if you would like to see the news video for your selves, please click on the link below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sA8R_KhJwE0

 Based on a true story.

Daniel and his wife were welcomed for 4 months in a NH hotel near the hospital where his son was being treated.

This is the letter that they sent us:

“We wore long, fighting for the life of our son ... After many scares and testing, we came to Madrid, waiting for the miracle made ... We were away from home, almost without resources and they got us a home ... ., a place to rest, to renew forces, where talk ..... Thanks ...... Thanks to the waiter, who, every day, lifted our spirits, with their kindness and sympathy.

Thanks to the cleaning, with blue eyes, who, every morning, asked for our son……, he is beautiful ......

Thanks to everyone, who gave us a home away from home”.

Through the program “HOTELS WITH A HEART”

We got that stories like this one happen everyday in our hotels

Donating rooms for families with children hospitalized away from home.

With all our heart. Merry Christmas.

Well, I hope that you have enjoyed this news, such as I did.

Until my next post, kind regards,

Luis.

The colours of the Spanish Flamenco
Friday, December 26, 2014

The day before yesterday, I could listen, on the radio, an interview to a Spanish group named FLAMENCO KIDS. They have a song, titled “Colorín”. And this song is based in another famous song, titled “Garrotín”. The spanish group SMASH published this song (The Garrotín) in 1978. The Garrotín is a "Palo" (a type of composition, inside Flamenco) and it was the first time that the fusion among Flamenco and Rock happened in Spain.I have found a video, where the famous Spanish singer, Peret, sings the song “Garrotín”. If you want to watch the video with Peret singing, please click on the link below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUjVpGw7zOc

      Here, Peret sings this lyrics:

Al garroting, al garrotán,

A la vera, vera, vera de San Juan.

Al garrotín, al garrotán,

De la vera, vera, vera de San Juan.

Canto a mi tia María,

Canto a mi tia Teresa,

Que no hay quien tenga en el mundo una tia como esa.

Y al garrotín, y al garrotán,

Que de la vera de San Juan.

Y al garrotín, yal garrotán,

De la vera, vera, vera de San Juan.

Canto a mi tia Teresa,

Canto a mi tia María,

In English:

To little stick, to big stick,

next to, next to, next to Saint John.

To Little stick, to big stick,

next to, next to, next to Saint John.

I sing to my aunt Mary,

I sing to my aunt Theresa,

that no one in the world has an aunt like that.

And little stick, and big stick,

that from the edge of Saint John.

And to Little stick, and to big stick,

next to, next to, next to Saint John.

I sing to my aunt Theresa,

I sing to my aunt Mary,

If I sing to only one,

the other would be angry.

And to little stick and to big stick,

that from the next to Saint John.

And to Little stick and to big stick,

From next to, next to, next to Saint John.

And to little stick and to big stick,

that from the next to Saint John.

And the garro garro garro garrotín and garrotán,

that from the next to Saint John.

And the garro, and the garro and to little stick and to big stick,

And the garro garro  little stick and to big stick,

that from the next to Saint John.

Well, I found a very nice video, with the song “Colorín”, by FLAMENCO KIDS. If you want to watch this video, please click the link below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93tSJyRcWvo

This is the lyrics, in Spanish:

mmmmm….¿qué os apetece hacer pequeños genios?

¡¡¡Queremos pintaaar!!!

Orsea cántanos lo que te ha enseñado Grabi para aprender a pintar.

Tran tran tran tran treiro

Treiro treiro treiro tran

Estribillo

Al colorín y al coloran

ya mezclamos los colores

y a pintar.

El rojo y el amarillo

Mezclados nos da el

Naranja;

Pero que rica es esta fruta,

que te alegra la mañana.

Estribillo

Al colorín y al coloran

ya mezclamos los colores

y a pintar.

Si mezclas rojo y azul

Si mezclas rojo y azul

Ya tenemos el morao

Su nombre suena a guitarra

Y a flamenco en el colmao

Estribillo

Al colorín y al coloran

ya mezclamos los colores

y a pintar.

El azul y el amarillo

se funden y nace el verde

el de la roca de Orsea

cuando sube la marea

Al colorín y al coloran

ya mezclamos los colores

y a pintar.

Ya sabemos de colores

Para empezar a ser pintores

Que con pinceles y amores

Haréis cuadros a montones

Al colorín y al coloran

ya mezclamos los colores

y a pintar (bis)

Repite

Al colorín y al coloran

ya mezclamos los colores

y a pintar

Repite

Al colorín y al colorán.

Come on, Orsea, sing us what Grabi taught you, to learn to paint.

Tran tran tran tran treiro

Treiro treiro treiro tran

Chorus:

To little colour, and to big colour,

We already mix the colors and to paint….

Red and yellow,

mixed gives us the orange.

But what richer than that fruit is,

that cheers your morning up.

Chorus:

To little colour,  and to big colour,

we already mix the colours and to paint.

Music……….

If you mix red and blue,

If you mix red and blue,

we have purple.

His name sounds like guitar

and flamenco in the *shop.

Chorus:

To little colour and to big colour

and we mix the colors and to paint.

Music…………………

Blue and yellow

are joined and green is born

Of the, of the Orsea´s rock

when the tide is going up.

To Little color, to big colour

We already mix the colors and to paint.

Music……………………

We already know of colors,

to start being painters,

that with brushes and love

I will make paintings a lot.

Chorus:

And to little colour and to big colour,

we already mix the colours and to paint.

repeat

And to little colour and to big colour

We already mix the colours and to paint.

A Medieval village is found in Rioja Alavesa
Tuesday, December 23, 2014

I should not like to finish this year without sharing with you a curious news, that I found some months ago:  A Medieval village is found in the Rioja of Álava, North east of Spain.

The chapel of Santa Lucia, located in Labastida (Rioja of Alava) hosts an archaeological site, that  has been discovered by a research group, at the University of the Basque Country (UPV) and it is the last testimony preserved of an important documented medieval settlement, from the eleventh century.

Domestic and production structures next to the Chapel of Santa Lucia

The first time, that was  mentioned this village, situated on the banks of the Ebro, was in a document, from 1075, in which the king of Navarre, Sancho IV, donated the village and the  church to the monastery of San Millan, as reported by the UPV .

However, the excavation has shown that the site was occupied previously. The oldest identified witness belongs to an anthropomorphic tomb, excavated in the rock, datable between the ninth and tenth centuries, that is unfinished and could be a part of a larger cemetery, according to the researchers think.

Tomb found by researchers from Heritage and Cultural Landscapes of the UPV

Already, in the twelfth century, the church of Santa María de Torrentejo was built, still preserved, which is mentioned, at the end of this century, as a monastery. However, in the place, there was an earlier temple, which was linked the cemetery, in which reposed Torrentejo neighbors, in the eleventh century.

Then, the village was subjected to a rigid feudal control, both by the Navarre king as by numerous gentlemen, who owned properties, in the place or in the monastery of San Millan de la Cogolla.

Torrentejo was probably abandoned, in the late Middle Ages, like other villages, in the Rioja of Alava. Although, it seems, in this case, the depopulation was quite early, in the thirteenth century.

It was then, when the main towns, organized around castles in the Rioja of Álava, as in the case of Labastida and Laguardia, they manage a group, within its walls, the population of rural areas.

Unlike many other villages of Rioja, Torrentejo had an intense life in Renaissance and modern times.

The excavation has shown the existence of a large number of domestic and productive structures character, appended to the chapel, which shows that the site was occupied intensively during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

Have been found numerous coins, ceramics, food scraps and a trivet, object indicating that, in the place, was manufactured ceramic and it reveals unknown craft activity, in the territory so far.

From the eighteenth century, were conducted several rehabilitation and restoration of the temple. Perhaps one of the most significant took place in 1780-1781.

It is from this point, that the old chapel of St. Mary or Our Lady of Torrentejo begins renamed St. Lucia, a name that has remained until today.

Another major renovation took place in 1866, at the hands of Saturnino Lopez. More recently, the building has been modified, in 1981-1982, and in 2010.

The excavation has also investigated in the vicinity of the shrine and, in the adjacent slopes to the building, were found a series of terraced agricultural use of great antiquity, that analyze some major changes, in the cultural landscape of this area.

In five of them, have been able to observe the existence of several phases of construction, that will determine when the transition occurred from the cultivation of grain and other crops to the extension of monoculture of the vine.

This intervention is very relevant in the context of the recent statement, as a Cultural Asset, by the Basque Government, of the Cultural Landscape Wine and Vineyard of Rioja of Alava, as it will allow, for the first time in this territory, chronicle the process of creating these landscapes cultural.

Well, I hope that you have liked this news such as I do.

Until my next post, kind regards,

Luis.

Only License for Creative Commons in Spanish
Monday, December 22, 2014

This week, the Creative Commons (CC) License, which allows authors exercise of intellectual property rights, under the slogan of 'some rights reserved', has fulfilled twelve years.

Bottle caps with the logo of Creative Commons

It was a December 16, 2002, when the US organization, that manages it, launched this tool, while in Spain might be used, adapted and translated into Castilian, a couple of years later.

A feature of the Spanish-speaking world is that, each country as Mexico, Argentina or Uruguay, has its own license. As the spokesman CC CC Spain and Catalonia, Ignasi Labastida, told RTVE.es, they are working on a license only official version in Spanish, at the request of organizations like UNESCO.

"The goal is to use a common language and unify the terminology", said Labastida, who revealed they hope to have it ready, in early 2015, and thus facilitate its use.

At present, there are six Creative Commons licenses, that allow works can be "shared and reused on terms that are flexible and legal".

That is, any work of authorship, whether music, photos, books or databases, is protected. So has the feature that, depending on the type of license to use, other people can modify the work, reused for commercial purposes or not, etc. In addition, it must attribute the authorship increasingly used.

The latest version is 4.0 and it adds some details, regarding the above clarifying the intent of the authors, who use them, they improve its internationalization and cover more fields as information generated by governments or certain types of databases.

"The CC licenses are based on the system of Copyright, but they have different clauses that provide greater accessibility", said the researcher, at the Berkman Center, at Harvard University, Mayo Fuster, who thinks that these licenses facilitate creating environments that promote creativity.

"The authors may decide to give some uses of their works", agrees Labastida, who also works in the Office of disseminating knowledge of the University of Barcelona.

"We try to break the idea that everything on the Internet can be used freely. Know that all copyright if not specified, are" he explains, and recommends that the creators who want to share rights as specified with icons CC created for this purpose "so that people change their mentality".

Not only the individual creators or in group can use these free licenses, it also works for the government to adopt them.

According to Ignasi Labastida, are being "well received", in cases such as the City Hall of Barcelona and the Generalitat of Catalonia, which in its editorial licensing rules include open  --there are other parts from the CC, as GPL license--.

"It was ideally open by default and close what has to close" sentence Labastida, who also works with the Europeana project. It is an open-access digital library, that includes works by all kinds of public cultural institutions of the EU.

Fuster, who said that these licenses "are widespread", criticizes, however, observing an "institutional repeated closure", in Spain, at the time of receiving "a widespread social practice" of these licenses. In this regard, he referred to the recently adopted reform of the Copyright Act, which does not include an explicit mention of free licenses.

This November, the Creative Commons released a report of the State of Procomún 2014. It shows that increased by 120% the number of works, with these licenses in the last four years, from 400 million, in 2010, to 882, in 2014.

The report notes that this growth may be due to "major websites that have incorporated these ideas", from nonprofit pages, like Wikipedia, to those of a commercial character, as Youtube, Flickr, or Scribd.

It also highlights the increasing use of the CC license, for academic publications, educational, or scientific nature. For example, the open access journal PLOS ONE already has more than 100,000 items, under this license.

One of the drivers of Creative Commons, the Lawyer and Scholar, Lawrence Lessig, has celebrated this anniversary with a message, on the blog project that speaks of a past uncertain, but "billion CC licensed work after", he thinks that they would track.

"The CC licenses are having a real impact on the lives of people. They are helping to disseminate information to treat diseases, to make government more transparent and accountable, and to make education accessible to everyone, in all parts. That is an incredible set of simple and free licenses impact”, Lessig has ruled.

Well, I am so glad for this news, because I did not know that how the "intellectual property" works and I find it very interesting, that unify criteria for the good result of the whole community of  Spanish-speaking.

Untill my next post, kind regards,

Luis.

A white lion was born in Madrid, Spain
Friday, December 19, 2014

Roceño is the name of the white lion cub was born, at dawn, on Thursday, in a circus in Madrid. This is an example of a species, that is endangered and there is sparse population.

The puppy, with 800 grams in weight and 30 inches tall, was born at 4.24 am, this early morning, in the facilities of the “Holiday circus”, which will remain, in the town of Las Rozas (Madrid), until next January 11.

Roceño

With only 10 hours to live, the breeding white lion is in "perfect condition", like his mother, according indicated the head of communication of the circus, Ignacio Pedrera.

The mother of the breeding white lion, an albino lion, even a second of his son, who they doze together awaiting the arrival of his lunchtime and he remains oblivious to the watchful eyes of her caregivers are not separated.

For Roceño, named for the adjective of the inhabitants of Las Rozas (Madrid), is difficult to stand and he shows his claws, when somebody is trying to separate him from his mother.

For its part, the head of the circus, Justo Sacristan, shows the little white lion, as if it were his child and, in a few months, he will be educated, in order to become part of the circus.

The albino lion of the Circus Holiday, Roceño´s mother, has spawned several white lions. Two years ago, she gave birth to two cubs that today live, in the Zoo Safari Wildlife Adventure of Hinojosa of San Vicente, in Toledo.

White lions "are usually a mix", because, when a parent is albino, as the case Lioness of this circus, may leave these white cats, explains Pedrera. "No species itself that is white lion", he adds.

For this reason, he adds, "there are only 50 copies worldwide and, most is in circuses and zoos".

Pedrera, also responsible for the national campaign for circus animals, notes that fro the circus are working for white lions do not become extinct.

Therefore, he says, the albino lioness is not part of the spectacle of the circus, but that is dedicated to procreate. However, when Roceño gets older, will have to live and share the limelight, at the circus, with ostriches, African Watusi, camels, llamas of Peru, crocodiles, pythons or dwarf horses.

Clowns, acrobats, jugglers and magicians complete the two-hour circus show, in which the audience, by now, can only make photos with the little Roceño.

I wish, to the members of Circus Holiday, having much luck, with the presentation of this new lion, for their show. And also I hope that you can come to Madrid, ever, and wants to go to the circus, to enjoy with all their show.

Until my next post, kind regards,

Luis.

A Spanish technology allows to send messages without Internet or coverage
Thursday, December 18, 2014

The ability to communicate without wifi or mobile internet or coverage is a theory, known since a long time and has begun to practice, on mobile devices, in recent years; first, with the SMS and, now, with chat messages and calls.

The technology, called a wireless mesh network allows calls, send and receive messages when networks are overloaded or in a place with little or no coverage.

This is possible thanks to other phones, which are connected to the network and act as an access point, for the terminal, that is not. These connect to each other through the wifi antenna lead built.

This year, a research group, at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), has patented, in our country, the protocol in which such networks (in English called mesh) is based and is developing a hardware device, that allows you to warn withholding drivers on the road.

The Professor of Telecommunications, in the UPCT, and member of the group, Fernando Cerdan, has explained, to RTVE.es, with this patent,               --approved in May 2014, after four years of process--  explain "nothing new", but specify what procedure to communicate, with a device, without network access.

"You can connect through other phones, that are covered with the base station [telephone network]”, Cerdan, who pointed out that this technology creates a double network, stated: the connection to the base station and another "point to point”, with the mobile phones, that the user has around, through their respective antennas wifi.

This procedure, that has already been used in applications such as FireChat, that allows to send messages with the mechanism P2P (peer-to-peer, from device to device) in situations where there is no coverage, or the latest MeshMe. This last expects that mobile becomes a kind of router, to chat offline.

The group of the UPCT already put in practice this system, in 2007. Along with the Valencian company “Tissat”, created the Salta 2.0 application, a software that texted (SMS) between mobile Nokia, using wireless networks. Either directly or through other mobile acting as 'gateway', to get connectivity.

Researchers from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena are considering upgrading this application, from 2007, and adapt it to current major mobile operating systems, Android and iOS.

By the moment, they have done simulations messaging chat text type, such as WhatsApp, and voice calls (VoIP), with mobile without coverage. "The more nodes are in the network most likely have to conduct successful communication", said Cerda.

According says the professor, one of the possible uses is in extinguishing fires, in forest areas. "The brigade go in groups of five or six, but not all carry communications equipment, although they do their mobile. Through an app, they could give their position, in forest density, because the GPS may not work", he said.

The Dintel group of the UPCT (Division of Innovation in Telematic Systems and Electronic Technology) has also proven technology for voice calls. "It has more quality restrictions, because if there are many devices gateway, you can not have a fluent conversation; but if there is a good density of nodes, you can have quality conversations", has topped Cerdán.

The project, that they have aimed, is a prototype of hardware, to warn drivers of retentions on road, combined with car security systems.

"If a jam and a halt sticks, emergency flashers are activated and a signal is sent to the cars going back. By beeps or other method, it would warn that one kilometer would have to start braking", noted Cerdan, who notes that it is a system that have yet to study how to implement, but it depends, largely, on car manufacturers.

Like any technology, in order this system is a reality everyday, there must be who use it. The Professor of Telecommunications told that it would be necessary those mobile, with which you collaborate, have an installed app, or reach an agreement with the telephone companies, to allow communication with the base station and other mobile app.

Regarding the patent Cerdán noted that the invention is only protected in Spain since when they had the opportunity to apply for the extension to international patent lacked the funding to start the process.

The invention refers to four possible situations: if the source device and destination are covered; if the destination is not covered but the origin itself, in this case the destination is a gateway that supports itself has coverage-; the destination is covered, but the caller does not  --the origin is supported by a walkway itself has coverage-- and that neither origin nor destination have coverage  --the communication is only possible if there are support nodes--.

Apart from specifying these cases, the patent also includes a power saving mechanism to detect whether a mobile battery is low. In that case, the device, which is the gateway, would stop not to consume.

Well, I think that mobile is a very important invention and, therefore, if it can help people in difficult situations, it is welcome.

Until my next post, kind regards,

Luis.

Positive attitude to Ictus in Spain
Wednesday, December 17, 2014

Both stroke and Myocardial Infarction are two problems, that leave sequels, like fear and depression. In the Gregorio Marañón Hospital (in Madrid), there is a group of professionals, ready to help sufferers of these diseases, to overcome this crisis in their lives.

There is a video, showing how this group works the therapy for these patients. If you want to watch the video, please click on the link below:

http://www.rtve.es/alacarta/videos/telediario/actitud-positiva-claves-para-recuperacion-tras-sufrir-ictus/2910214/

Ana Blanco (Anchor): “Almost four years, after suffering a stroke, the actress, Silvia Abascal, prepares herself to return to star in a movie. In all this time, she has been recovering herself without falling into despair; but there are patients who, after spending a stroke or a heart attack, they fear, depression and anxiety……..

You can read: RESILIENT PEOPLE

Ana Blanco: “According to experts, people who have a positive attitude, recover better and even are strengthened, psychologically, as has happened to Silvia Abascal”

Now you can read: AFTER A BLOW

Silvia Abascal: “Not that I have changed, you know?, Values now I know what matters, how valuable ... no, nothing like that. That remains the same as before ... now more reinforced. But…it is true that I have learned, a lot about my ability .... of self-improvement”

You can read: THE ATTITUDE DETERMINES

Ana Blanco: “However, when the attitude is negative, the brain generates stress and the patient is unable to improve”

You can read: A SECOND LIFE

A patient: “Since it happened me the infarct, I have not stopped brooding: it can happens to you again ..... So, recently, I had to go to the Emergency room, because I was stressed, I had anxiety ........ ..”

Another patient: “I still follow so scared to sleep, because I think that perhaps I……. I am not going to notice, if it happens again ....”

Voice in off: “There are people who, after suffering a heart attack, they sink theirselves, they are scared and blocked”

Silvia Holguera (clinical psychologist in the Gregorio Marañon Hospital, Madrid): “Constantly, one is giving it turns and, slowly, one task is to place it, giving it a sense, cognitively and emotionally: to clarify what I am feeling at that moment, what is happening to me, fear ...”

Beatriz Perez Perea (Voice in off): “In the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit of the Hospital Gregorio Marañón, in Madrid, they help them to gain confidence and recover their activity, starting with what we already know: eat right, leave the tobacco  --if they are smokers-- and make, slowly, growing more exercise”

Manuel Abeytua (Cardiology Service of the Gregorio Marañon Hospital): “After a few months, they may be some different persons, with a much higher quality of life, than before submitting an acute myocardial infarction…………It is demonstrated that cardiac rehabilitation improves quality of life of these patients and, in addition, also survival, increases survival”

You can read: Editing: Luis Carazo

Beatriz Perez Perea: “Psychologically, not everyone reacts the same, with problems such as serious illness, there are people who grow theirselves, they are always positive, they are resilient people”

Rafaela Santos (President of the Spanish Institute of Resilience): “There is a third of the population, about having a higher innate ability to cope with difficult situations, without fear ... When people do not accept an illness or a serious accident, when something, that is supposedly not accepted .... something that traumatizes us, you suffer twice”

Beatriz Perez Perea: “But Resilience can be learned”

Rafaela Santos: “The attitude is what will determine, that our brain acts, generating stress and fear and anxiety, or generating confidence and security”

Beatriz Perez Perea: “An example of a resilient person is, without doubt, the actress Silvia Abascal, who suffered a stroke, in 2011, when she was only 32 years old”

Silvia Abascal: “I remember a whip ... radical, suddenly ... a very sharp pain in the ears .....; when I tried to cover my ears and saw that the hands were not coordinating me, then I said: something is happening here ... from the High Chief ....”

Beatriz Perez Perea: “Her life took a dump, that she would never have imagined ..... Her career was stopped cold and she had to start learning all over again”

Silvia: “You can not do this ......!. It is that ....it is a rebirth, I always say it, it is a fresh start; but ... well ... with patience, positivity ..., surrounding you with people, who encourage you ... ,not of those people, who remind you of the misfortune…..Is not it? ..., that has happened to you ..., one ... one evolves ... "

Now you can read: “Do not say anything” by Silvia Abascal

Beatriz Perez Perea: "Gradually, she has recovered. She has written a book; she directed her first Short (film) and after doing small roles, in January, Silvia Abascal will start shooting, and as a protagonist, a movie about the Pope Francis. Some sequels have been stayed with her, sounding noises in her head, permanently, and everything that happens, around her, she hear it amplified; but she has adapted herself”

Silvia Abascal: “For me, what has helped me, get away from why to me ...: stop asking that question and then .... not spend all day on that .... I was not all day, but not an instant…That is, to be where I am now, I am this one, with limitations ... capabilities, which have fallen ....; but also with other things, surely ... Sure, sure ... .... they have been developed. It will sound as a great  cliché; but really, it is true: I wake up with a THANKS"

Well. I think it is so interesting for people. I hope that you have liked this study.

Until my next post, kind regards,

Luis.

Platero y yo: One hundred years of Spanish life
Saturday, December 13, 2014

Today I would like to speak to you of the news about the 100th anniversary of the first edition of "Platero y yo" (a famous work by Juan Ramon Jimenez).

“Platero y yo” is a narrative, that recreates, poetically, the life and the death of the donkey, Platero.

The first edition was published in 1914 (Editions of reading) and, in 1917, the complete edition, consisting of 138 chapters (Editorial Calleja, Madrid), was published. It was clear that Platero was an adult text, although, in its simplicity and transparency, is perfectly adequate to the imagination and taste of children. Some chapters enclosing a certain social criticism, revealing a dimension of the author, that many took to notice. The own Juan Ramón Jiménez, in a "little prologue" editing, clarified: "I have never written or write anything for children, because I think that child can read the books, that reads man, with certain exceptions that everyone thinks".

Well, Google has created the character "doodle", to commemorate, yesterday Friday,  100 years since the first edition of this little donkey, small, furry and soft, so soft on the outside.

"doodle"

The December 12, 1914 was released the first edition of one of the most widely read texts of world literature, a work full of symbolism, that has managed to bring to Moguer (Huelva, Southwest Spain), its people and landscapes, all over the world.

The book has accompanied dozens of generations of Spaniards over the years. Its simplicity, clarity and tenderness of the Nobel Prize hided, however, some social criticism of the way of the polyhedral author.

This news makes me remember my life as a student, because all of us have to read this book, at school.

Perhaps you read this book when you were a child too.

Until my next post, kind regards,

Luis.

A spanish group sing to person
Thursday, December 11, 2014

Today, I would like to show you a video, where a Spanish group (HOAC = Brotherhood Catholic Workers Action), in Andalusia, sing to person. Later you will see how they defend the person of a child, the person of a woman, etc. And I agree with them, thinking that you have to defend the lives of children, since they are conceived, before birth. We must also defend the right of a woman, for example to charge the same as a man, if both are doing the same job. We must also defend the person of an immigrant, especially if flees his country, by political ideology or extreme poverty. And, of course, we also must defend the person of elderly.

If you want to watch this video, please click on the link below:

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOOovEDqLTA

Lyrics:

Person is……the first…..

Person is……the first….

Person is……the first….

Person is……the first….

Person is the first…..

Person is the first…..

Person is the first….

Person is the first….

If person is not the first, someone will take his place ....

the benefits, the economy, if not, maybe the capital will be.

If person is not the first, the world works backwards.

If person is not the first, we have to do something.......

While you were listening ths son, wou could watch some signs. For example, you can read: ¡Hay cosas que solo se ven con lagrimas en los ojos! (There are some things that you only see with tears in your eyes!). Las pobrezas son un problema político (The poverties are a political problem). Negreros de ayer, políticos de hoy (Cruel yesterday, Politician today). Precaridad laboral, enfermedad contagiosa(Labor precarity, contagious disease). El otro es el otro, pero es Cristo (The other is the other, but it is Christ). Soy obrero por la Gracia de Dios (I am a worker by the Grace of God). Lo distinto te despierta el corazón (the different thing wakes you up the heart). AQUI - ALLA (HERE - THERE). Hacer fraternidad es construir justicia (Make fraternity is to build justice). ¡El mundo marcha al reves! (The world works backwards!). Quien llora y sufre irá primero (Who cry and suffer will go first). El trabajador no es una mercancía (The worker is not a commodity). Recarga la vida de solidaridad (Recharge life of solidarity). Todos iguales en la diversidad (All equal in diversity). El niño es persona (Child is a person). El anciano es persona (The old man is a person). No me discrimines en mi trabajo por ser mujer (Do not discrimínate me in my work because I am a woman). Blasfema quien humilla, discrimina o explota (Blasphemous who humbles, discriminate or exploits). El niño es persona (Child is a person). Las vallas para el ganado no tienen concertinas (The fences for livestock have barbed wire). La usura es un pecado mortal (Usury is a mortal sin). No mas puentes (No more bridges). Entre todos podemos (Together we can). Con tu puedo y mi quiero todo es posible (With your I can and my I want all is possible). Un sueño (A dream). Comunidad garantia de esperanza (Community warranty of hope). Ningun ser humano es illegal (No human being is ilegal). Todos somos migrantes (We are all migrants). Nativa o extranjera, la misma clase obrera (Native or foreign, the same working class). Hoy empieza el mañana (Today begins tomorrow). Hacer fraternidad es construer justicia (Make fraternity is to build justice). Algo tenemos que hacer (We must doing something). Recarga la vida de solidaridad (Recharge life of solidarity). ¡Creemos otra cultura!, ¡Vivamos de otra manera! (Let us create another culture!, Let us live by other way!).

Person is……the first…..

Person is……the first….

Person is……the first….

Person is……the first….

We feel own the brother's suffering here and there ....

We become messengers of tender embrace and fraternity ......

If the person is not the first, the world goes backwards.

Who cry and suffer will go first, turn it again ......

Person is……the first…..

Person is……the first….

Person is……the first….

Person is……the first….

If person is not the first, who has more will trample

our reason, our rights, we will not even comment ....

If person is not the first, the world goes upside down.

If he goes before the usurer, something must be removed .....

Person is……the first…..

Person is……the first….

Person is……the first….

Person is……the first….

If we build a new world, putting the center humanity, a new dream will be born, creating all community.

If person is not the first, the world goes backwards. If person is not the first, we have to do something......

Person is……the first…..

Person is……the first….

Person is……the first….

Person is……the first….

Well, the video has finished, but you can reflect about it, these days, before the Christmas time.

I think this video is full of values, full of wishes of natural rights, regardless of religion, forgetting, for a moment, that this video is sponsored by a Catholic organization.

Until my next post, kind regards,

Luis.

A Spanish railway success for Europe
Wednesday, December 10, 2014

Today, I would like to tell you a news, which talks about a very important thing for Spain: Yesterday, a contract of selling spanish trains to Holland was signed.

The news says that the Spanish company Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) will provide 118 trains, for an amount of 500 million Euros, to the Dutch railway operator, which is the largest order made by the company, in Europe, and one of the largest, in history of the company.

With the contract signed on Monday, the Spanish railway company raised its backlog and strengthens its position, in the European market.

The trade agreement also includes a possibility of increasing the number of trains supplied, as reported by the company to the Comision Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV)  National Commissión of the Money Market.

The Dutch operator, Nederlandse Spoorwegen, will destined the trains from CAF, to exploit the service called Sprinter. It is estimated that, the first units of this order, will begin to circulate, in 2018.

With this purchase, the Dutch operator seeks to address the exploitation of new routes and increased passenger demand.

Well. I think this news shows, once again, that Spain is able to export satisfactorily.

Until my next post, kind regards,

Luis.

A Spanish old lady no longer feels alone
Tuesday, December 9, 2014

I want to show you a video, with an interview to an old lady, who lived alone and felt alone herself; but now she has a great company. If you want to watch this video, please click on the link below:

http://www.rtve.es/alacarta/videos/la-manana/manana-cafe-amelia-garcia-soledad-enfermedad/2849787/

Mariló Montero (Anchor of the program “La mañana” in TVE): “I present to you Amelia García. How old are you, Amelia?”

Amelia García: “88”

You can read: Coffee con Amelia García. “I have better old age than my grandmother”

Mariló: “And since when you began to feel alone?”

Amelia: “Well ... since many years ago .....; since I was a widow, I started living alone and then ... I want to follow living alone, as long as I can and, to do it, they help me very much, so much the Association "Friends of the oldest", who are wonderful and I had lucky when we did, through the Social Services of the City Hall of Madrid, we request help, so that I could follow living alone and, then, soon ..........”

Mariló: “Did your home fall apart?...What is loneliness, Amelia?”

Amelia: “Uy…loneliness is a disease, that has no recipe that alleviates it ....;  the recipe and aid are those which, for example, currently, I receive from the Association "Friends of the oldest" ……”.

Mariló: “Now you will say me what do you do there; but I want to know, imagine, when a person is 88 years old .... How long have you been a widow?”

Amelia: “22 years”

You can read: Amelia has a volunteer. “Friend of olders” he helps her in her tasks.

Mariló: “22 years….And have you been 22 years feeling alone yourself….?.....Do have children?”

Amelia: “Yes, I have daughters, but the circumstances of people ... well, people ... they are working .. They leave their homes, at 7 am, they come in the afternoon and, then, if I go their homes, I have the same loneliness than in mine; but, at home, I still have my personality, while I can”.

Mariló: “How big is loneliness?”

Amelia: “Loneliness is a big gap, that if it takes hold of you and it turns, turning in your head, you do not brake it; however, if you have some very moral supports, to help you raise that collapse, that you have……”

Now, you can read: Nearly 2 million older are alone. She participates in all activities proposed to her

Mariló: “Because you can become sad, such as to fall into depression and not wanting to leave home?”

Amelia: “Well ... I, fortunately ........”

Mariló: “Because loneliness, I guess, Amelia, that loneliness will make you form many questions, right? .... One, alone, what question is asked?"

Amelia: “Well ... but ... if the day dawns without knowing why, the first question is: What is that I am today so?  and .... I have no answer ..... and that is loneliness: it seems that now, with certain ages, will be running everything, will be running the world, because you find .... I have, I have daughters ... wonderful, and the sons-in-law also, who for me are sons too”.

Mariló: “What do you think of us?

Amelia: “What?”

Mariló: “What do you think of us?, What do we do bad, in order that that elderly ..., in order that  there is 2 million elderly alone, in Spain?”

Amelia: “No, no, no, no ... neither we, of our generation, we have done it better, no ..... they are the circumstances, which are not parallel ..: the way we live now, than the way of life, when I, for example, had your years”

Mariló: “But, that you are alone is to blame to children…?, Is it our blame?”

Amelia: “No, no, no….i is the blame of the circumstances”

Mariló: “Right. Then, there is a solution, that you searched out of home ... You call the Community of Madrid, they gave you the help…..Which kind of help they give you?”

Amelia: “But……affection, support, love ....”

Mariló: “But how ....?, Do you arrange to meet with them every morning? ...let us see, tell me what about your way, Amelia”

Amelia: “well…..my way..., I have help.., since coming the Coordinator, Rufi, to my home, the first thing I won was a volunteer ...”

Mariló: “And he is responsible for……”

Amelia: “for visiting, ie,  periodically… he visit me…”

Mariló: “He goes your home…, he helps you to do household chores….”

Amelia: “I guarantee you that if that, if that day I am surrounded by loneliness, when he arrives, with the influx of his youth and his joy, loneliness disappears and it wake up like to live and joy ...”

Mariló: “But, What do you do…do you talk, do you chat…?”

Amelia: “Of course…we talk, we chat….. we met yesterday and today ...; he does not believe things, that perhaps I tell him of my youth……..”

Mariló: “Like what….?”

Amelia: “Well ... things that happened, that….he is surprised and says: How do you let those things and how did you have that way of life ....?, and however ... that is the yesterday, and he teach me the way of life, that you, young people, have now, .... and he also helps me to understand it, which I also have to understand it”.

Mariló: “Ie, now you have your day to day, besides ......, a communication, which helps you, moreover, to reflect on your life ........ And then play, play sports, participate in activities”.

Amelia: “Well, activities, now, thanks to the Association, Friends of the elderly, we have many events because volunteers, submitted to us, and they become our shadows”

Mariló: “Make me a favor, Amelia, who are many, do me a favor, who are many older people, who are seeing it at home ....., tell them something, if they are alone ....”

Amelia: “But…What am I going to telle them….?...I led a very active life and, when, cause of some circumstances, I had to stop, I found the help, wonderful, from "Friends of older" and, then, my life has been filled, again, of illusion and joy”

Mariló: “Well, I hope they heed you and call the Association, that they  obey to this campaign, so that your message can help all these people, who are alone”

Amelia: “To many persons, because, in the Association, I think that we are more than 300 persons”

Mariló: “How thoughtful! .... Therefore, it is a perfect invitation ... Amelia, I would be talking about a long time with you ....”

Amelia: “And always, always helped by our volunteers, that we go to many events”

Mariló: “And you have to thank a lot the work of the volunteers ..... Amelia: you are loved... God bless you!”

Amelia: “Very well, thank you very much for the minutes, that you have presented me….”

Mariló: “Now, listen, that we are going to talk about Isabel Pantoja, who has left the farm “La Cantora”. Right?. Now I am going with Jota, to the couch, and he tells us the latest news, Right?”.

Well. The video has finished and I hope that you have enjoyed the interview.

The highest bridge in Europe over water, in Spain
Thursday, December 4, 2014

Yesterday, I watched on tv a news very positive for Spain: The highest bridge in Europe is being built in Cádiz.

And I have found the video, that explains how is its construction. If you want to watch it, please clic on the link below:

http://www.antena3.com/noticias/economia/nuevo-puente-bahia-cadiz-sera-segundo-mayor-galibo-mundo_2014120300225.html

Vicente Vallés (Anchor): “This is the bridge, under construction, largest in Europe and the second in the world, higher, from the sea to the platform. It measures over 3000 meters long and will become the second access over the Bay of Cadiz ............ The work is of enormous technical complexity and it has a removable section to allow passage of special vessels”.

Lourdes Maldonado (Anchor): “Yes, the bridge, after several delays, seems to be inaugurated next year; a team of Antena 3 has visited it, so let us go there; Marta Hernández, What more has attracted your attention of this impressive building?”

Marta Hernandez (Reporter): “As the magnitude of this colossal work, which, not surprisingly, has become the largest bridge-building, in Europe. According to the Head of the work, it is the greatest exponent of Engineering in Spain, putting us at the highest level. This bridge has a rather complicated structure: it is divided into 4 parts, one of them, liftgate; but only on rare occasions, the lifting platform will be removed, so they can pass the boats, because, as we are telling you, of these large measurements. It has a budget to 362 million Euros and a length of 5 km, three of them over the Bay. Once completed, around 100,000 vehicles will circulate daily through this bridge. Currently, the works are executed at 85%; but the remaining 15% still involves a heavy workload. Since work construction of this bridge began, , between 450 and 650 people work, on site”.

María Pérez Laya (Voice in off): “It is one of the 34 pillars, that will hold the new bridge over the Bay of Cadiz. 9 of them are here, in the sea; they have had to fight against the waves and the wind and work further while continuing the usual maritime traffic, in the Bay .... It Is the bridge, under construction, most important in Europe: 3,100 meters in length; but more important is the height: 69 meters highest than the Golden Gate, in San Francisco. In addition, under its suspenders, even higher boats will be able to cross, because it will have a removable section, which may be raised to allow its passage; it is still not settled”.

Fernando Pedrazo (Site Manager): “The next unique is the placement of the removable section, a structure that requires very special official media, because we mobilise near ... well, we exceeded 4,000 tons”

María Pérez: “This removable section is already built; it must be transported, it measures 150 meters and it will be raise with cranes. The work is completed, at 85%, the remaining 15 will be completed in the coming months. In 2015, it will be operational, after several delays. This bridge, with straps, will be the third access, to the city of Cádiz, by road”.

Well, I have liked this news, because it shows that in Spain, we have very good Engineers.

I hope that you are in Spain, when this bridge is finished.

Until my next post, kind regards,

Luis.

The Naya: an abandoned village in Huelva, Southwest of Spain
Tuesday, December 2, 2014

On October 20, more than 190 people gathered at the site of the lost village of La Naya, situated in Huelva, Southwest Spain, in order to remember the time that they lived, there during their childhood. Most of them were neighbors and they travelled from Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and Bilbao to assemble here.

A meeting in La Naya, demolished

The Naya was a mining village of Rio Tinto. It was demolished in 1973.

If I can relate a short review of the history the village to you.

In 1873, the Spanish government sold the Minas Rio Tinto to a consortium of foreign capital, that once constituted, in London, would form the Rio Tinto Company Limited (RTCL), which exploded Rio Tinto until 1954. It was the rail-road required to transport ore and copper, from Rio Tinto to Huelva. The territory, that would occupy Naya, served as a supply and logistics for rail operators and, by 1876, already had homes and a canteen-store, linked to the Warehouse number 2, for the release of food and basic necessities, for employees the company residing there and rail-road workers.

In 1882, twenty-eight houses, four of them for foremen, were built. Later, between 1908 and 1909, a further fifty houses were built. The workers' dwellings were arranged in rows, precisely eight parallel and three perpendicular to the above. They were arranged on one level, each had three or four bedrooms and an average area of 45 square meters built.

The main occupation of the inhabitants of La Naya was the classification and organization of rail convoys, until after the end of the eighties of the nineteenth century was the treatment and processing of mineral, with the installation of mineral processing plants, as Washers and later with the construction of Copper Smelter in 1903 and the Concentrator, to which must be added that, from 1912, the construction of the tunnel No. 16, where Naya determined that all ore from South Reef, North and Masa San Dionisio (Corta Atalaya) was processed in the area Zarandas-Naya. This meant that, from the beginning of the Twenty Century, The Naya growed again to host the operators assigned to the zone to the treatment of mineral (Foundry, Concentrator, Washers, crusher plant, plant Ferrous Sulfate, etc.).

The Naya included: a chapel, a school with two rooms for boys and girls and a playground, the mining Casino, a Guardia Civil headquarters and commodities were acquired in Warehouse Company.

It also provided public laundry, because not all houses had running water, for this purpose one was built fifty meters from the village near the station, where it took the water.

The end of Naya was linked to the interests of the mining company and it is mainly due to two factors. The first is that many of their neighbors, employed in the foundry and factory acid, were taken, between 1969 and 1970, along with the facilities to Huelva, where they were assigned homes in the neighborhood of "Patiño". The second factor is that the rules of the early seventies required the "Company" to install a modern sewage and drinking water grid, so it was cheaper and useful for it to relocate the inhabitants of Naya in the current village of Minas de Rio Tinto, in the new homes in Los Cantos or in the Alto de la Mesa. This also managed to concentrate the population near the new work centre, located in Cerro Colorado. Once evicted Naya, in 1972-1973, it was demolished in 1973.

Now, I would like to show you a video with scenes from La Naya. Please click on the link below:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2zoBxEeKYE

Those attending the meeting had a meal at a restaurant in Rio Tinto. They were recalling memories and anecdotes of the past. At the end of the meal, recognition was given in memory of two priests: Manolo Vargas and Antonio Martin Bueno; also two teachers: Fernando Espinosa and Manuel Garcia Carmona. The latter already deceased, but his children attended from Barcelona to honour the recognition.

Well, I think this reunion has been a great success and would love to see The Naya restored.

Until my next post, kind regards,

Luis.
