Explosion in Gibraltar
31 May 2011 @ 18:12

There's just been an explosion in Gibraltar.  A fuel tank has just exploded and there's a massive black cloud over Gibraltar currently.  There's worries that the other 2 tanks could explode as well.

Is that second pic a Web cam capture? We'd like to include it in our coverage of the story.

It was emailed to me by one of my colleagues. I don't think it was from a web cam.

We were in Gibraltar on Ventura a few weeks back on the same dock. From our balcony the fuel tanks were right outside. There was some construction work going on next to them and we commented that there was no health and safety as the floor was covered in oil from the tanks and builders were walking around through the oil with cigarettes in their mouths as though there was no risk at all. One even through his ciggy on the floor This has to be due to poor health and safety regimes.

My colleague took the first photo with his Blackberry. The second photo may have been from the port authorities, but not sure.

I was on 'The Independance' and am still amazed at how Captain Remo managed to leave port in 4 minutes! Marvellous!
