My understanding is that the part to be renovated is the beachfront in the area from Torreblanca to the dead end in Carvajal. Not sure if I am right.

I just remember  several spots,  when walking to Torreblanca , really needed to be fixed.  I too am a bit concerned that the economic crisis will affect the work. But on the other side they expect to take offers soon, so hopefully " we are in an already approved budget".

A new beachfront will hopefully affect our properties in a positive way. And maybe more parking possibilities at the beachfront will

keep our road free of parked cars. :)

The road that goes out of the back of  'Don Juan'  is now closed for 2 weeks.  This is because of the works at the 'Higuron' restaurant.   I have just been up to see what is going on and it looks like they are widening the road which joins the restaurant car park.   Could this be the start of the work which eventually joins the back road to the main Carvajal boulivard??

 Hi martin

Thank you for all the information but can you give my directions on getting up to the back road please.

I am due out soon and have booked the new hotel up there which way would i go to get up there  it is the THB Reserva del Higueron

It is the hotel you can see to the right as you go up the back road.

I am not even sure if when i get to the railway bridge road i could go left there.

Thanks Irene

Irene,  its OK the new hotel has its own access.  From the carvajal train station you go up the long hill at the railway bridge, and from the top the whole Higueron complex has its own entrance.  So don't worry you can get to it.

You won't believe this. Just had an enquiry for my apartment for 2 months, whole of October and November. Done a search of who they were, and found they already have an apartment on a nearby complex. They wanted to know if our pools were opened for these dates. I found their phone number and decided to phone them. They told me their complex does not open their pool for them months and wanted to know if there was security on our complex. What a cheek. They also rent their apartment out. Who's to say they would not be sending their renters up to our complex for a swim. I told them clearly, we have security and you need a key to access the pool area. So in the off season be on the look out for chancers.

I was out for the first two weeks in June. One day at the pool I noticed a few of the children were playing with the Life Saving equipement in the pool dragging each other up and down with it.  I immediately jumped up and spoke to them,  there was an English lady there also who had Spanish and she addressed them in Spanish and eventually they put it back on the toilet block wall. (after giving me a few very dirty looks!)  I also noticed that a few people from Phase 3 were at the pool and were occupying 3 of the sunbed!. They were there a few times.  I had not realised there were from phase 3 until I saw them going in and out of it. They appeared to have keys to the pool area where ever they got them......

There are 2 different problems being discussed here:

1) People using our pools who shouldn't be.

If this is causing problems we can consider changing the locks. Either another ordinary type of lock where keys can be copied by anyone or a secure lock where keys can only be obtained by the registered owner of the lock. Buying a new lock will not deal with the problem of people who simply open the gate for anyone who asks. We wouldn't change the locks in peak season anyway and it will cost money so if neighbours think we should do this they can put it on the agenda for the AGM.

Our neighbours in Phase 2 guard their pool deligently. They create a huge fuss if anyone dares to walk in through their gate from another phase. Personally I have sympathy for people living in phase 3. They are in an almost empty building with a pool which is still full of stagnant water after 2 years. If they are behaving themselves I'd be inclined to let them be.

2) People who don't behave properly.

From damaging sunbeds to using the pool as a toilet there will always be people who don't consider others and don't know how to behave. No amount of rules will prevent this and it is everyone's responsibility to challenge bad behaviour, on behalf of the community when we see it.

This is just my own point of view and I'm interested in any ideas neighbours have on how we can improve things.

It was not that long ago when our committee members wanted to stop people getting a pool key  who had not paid there community fees and they owned in phase 1.
When they sell there properties that amount of money is taken of them so they pay in the end.

Need a bit of help.

I seem to have deleted an email I got a while back giving me directions etc to the nearest hospital. Can anyone put a post on here giving the name, address, phone number & good directions including any landmarks of how to get to the nearest public and private hospitals from DJ. Also, do they accept the European Health Insurance Card ( EHIC card ).

Many thanks

Spain has introduced 'proof of income' measures for EU_citizens who are not in work and who want to live in the country for more than three months

10.08.12

EU citizens in Spain could face proof of income tests if they wish to reside in the country for more than three months, as the Spanish government implements what has been described as "a crackdown on migrants" as it seeks to resolve the ongoing economic crisis.
As such, municipal councils, the National Police and international embassies are urging non-Spanish nationals to familiarise themselves with the new residency requirements (they can be found on many town hall and embassy websites), which have been introduced by the Spanish government.
Under the new rules, EU nationals registering on the 'Registro Central de Extranjeros' (National Foreigners Register) in order to obtain residency in Spain may be required to produce evidence of "sufficient financial means to support themselves and their dependants." Applicants may also be asked for proof of private or public healthcare insurance.
One Benalmádena-based lawyer told this newspaper: "Those who are working will have an income and medical cover – although they will still need to demonstrate this via the 'Vida Laboral' form.
"But those not in work will now need to prove they can support themselves somehow and that they have adequate medical cover."
On this latter point, Anette Skou, Head of Mijas Foreigners' Department, specifies: "If you're not working, you must present a private insurance document or an S1 from the public health service from your home country, plus proof of income (which includes a pension) of no less than 5,008 euro annually."
A further 8,763 euros is also required over and above the 5,008 euros per dependent family member.
Failure to produce the correct documentation could result in residency applications being rejected. However, Fuengirola's Councillor for Foreigners, Katja Westerdahl, tells SUR in English: "If you do not have a certain, specified document upon making the application, you are given 10 days to provide it. But if you fail to do so (after that period) your request will be filed as 'invalid.'"
She added: "If you are already registered in the National Police's Foreigners Register and have your certificate, the new law doesn't affect you in any way. If you have failed to renew your inscription and more than three months have passed, you will have to meet the requirements of the new law in order to get it done."
Motivations
The Government is said be rolling out this policy as it believes it could save up to one billion euros annually on providing healthcare to foreigners who are not entitled to it.
A statement issued on Monday by the Ministry of Health said the measure will "result in improving the allocation of services and will contribute to ensuring the sustainability of the public health service."
Of course, under European laws any EU citizen is entitled to receive medical attention in any other member state. But Spain's government is justifying the new residency requirement by drawing on a 2004 EU directive on "free movement" which gives member states the authority to define, "without prejudice to national border controls" – meaning EU countries can restrict entry to other citizens of other member states.
For its part, the British Embassy in Madrid said earlier this week: "We are aware of a recent change to Spain's implementation of long-standing EU residency legislation. This change simply brings Spain in line with many other EU countries. We understand the new rules will affect a relatively small number of expatriates.
"Anyone who has further concerns can also seek advice from the Spanish authorities about their personal circumstances."

Westport,

There is a casualty department in Fuengirola where you can obtain free treatment using your EHIC. To find it go to http://www.fuengirola-directory.com/centro-de-salud-las-lagunas-in-fuengirola-ID6675.html

 Hi Westport,

When Chris had a bike accident we went to Xanit hospital, from Don Juan easy to find. (Benalmadena Pueblo)

At first we went to Fuengirola, but we were sent to Xanit or Hospital Costa del Sol in Marbella.

He had surgery and it all went well, we are satisfied with the hospital, private, but our Dutch insurance paid all costs.

You drive across the Carrefour and drive through Benalmadena Pueblo, the hospital is just past

Pueblo.  It's at the Avenida de los Argonautas, hard to find from the boulevard, easy to find from el Higueron!

About EHIC I have no idea, but the hospital is fine we think.

Hope you won't need it,

Kind regards,

Corrie

Thanks for the info on the hospitals. From memory, as I have only been up that way once, Are the directions to Benelmadena Pueblo, go past Higueron to roundabout, then take exit where sign for Carrefour is, go past carrefour, down the hill, through narrow road section where traffic gives way to each other ( is this the Pueblo boulevard ) after that I am lost. Can you give directions from here. The EHIC card is the European Health Insurance Card which entitles you to free basic medical treatment within the EU.

Thanks

Past the Carrefour, follow same road, past the Aldi, you will enter Benalmadena Pueblo, keep the left (traffic lights because a narrow road), When you leave Pueblo (follow the road) go straight through few miles further to the Rotunda, go right and you will see Xanit.

It's not difficult and when you are in Pueblo you can always ask for Xanit Hospital.

About the EHIC I have no idea this will be accepted, because it's a private hospital, but I guess somebody else knows more about that card. In our case they contacted our insurance in Holland to be sure they would receive money for the surgery.

Succes,

Corrie
