When we had an account with Barclays in Fuengirola we got sent one of these but never completed and they never said anything.  Changed banks when we took out the mortgage and not yet been given one.

We bank with Barclays in Fuengirola. The accounts are "non resident" which means that any interest is paid gross. Domestic accounts have tax deducted by the bank. Bank's seem to treat "resident" and "non resident" Euros like 2 separate currencies and It is the bank's responsibility to get you to sign every 2 years if your accounts are non resident. I have read elsewhere on EOS that some do and some don't. I am not sure if there are any tax implications with a mortgage but if you are registered with your bank as non resident they probably just want to keep their paperwork right.

Some local news. Looks like we will be having high speed trains going past our development in years to come.

Work on Costa railway to start in Mijas

By Oliver McIntyre

Work on the long-awaited Costa railway – which will extend the existing Málaga-Fuengirola Cercanías line to Estepona and upgrade it to allow the use of high-speed trains – is to begin with a four-kilometre stretch of tunnel from Las Lagunas to La Cala de Mijas.
The Junta de Andalucía has put out to tender the 221 million-euro project for the double tunnel (one tube in each direction), with bids due by April 22. Once the contract is awarded, the completion timeline is estimated at 42 months.
Under an agreement between the Junta and the Development Ministry, the regional government is responsible for the entire stretch of new track from Fuengirola to Estepona, while the Development Ministry is responsible for upgrades to the existing Cercanías line so it can handle trains with speeds over 200 kph. Over the last few years Development has doubled the track along much of the 30-kilometre Cercanías line, but the track must still be upgraded for high-speed trains.
The new Fuengirola-Estepona tracks, covering a total of 56.6 kilometres with 14 stops, will run mostly underground due to the dense development of much of the area it passes through, says the Junta.
The goal is to create a high-speed coastal railway that will “permit travel times that are very competitive with private car use,” say Junta officials. They estimate trip times of just 11.5 minutes from Estepona to Marbella and 10 minutes from Marbella to Fuengirola. When complete, the entire Málaga-Estepona line is expected to carry some 40 million passengers a year.

THIS ONE MADE ME LAUGH.

STANDING FAST
Over 40 Preferente and Club class passengers on the 4.35pm AVE train from Madrid to Málaga last Friday had no seats after the first case of overbooking on the service. Renfe, which has opened an investigation, apologised and offered refunds to all those affected. Many had to stand in the cafeteria car as far as Córdoba, where alighting passengers freed up places for them.

GOD HELP THEM IF THEY COME TO LONDON AND TRY GETTING A SEAT ON A TRAIN.

I read in a previous report in Costa del Sol News that there was a feasibility study going on to determine the route of the new high speed railway. An inland route from Fuengirola to the airport is being considered as there are major difficulties and very high costs involved with the proposal to upgrade the existing line so it is by no means certain that we will have high speed trains passing by.

I went to the town hall and arranged for a large sheet of glass that was damaged to be removed. The service is free and it is supposed to go tonight. We´ll see if it does! While there I enquired about local taxes and was told that the amount for refuse collection would be 38€ for the year so that is not to bad. The amount for the rest of town hall services is not yet determined because Arrohabiage has not provided all the documentation required to register the apartments. Both taxes become due in May (you get 5% discount for paying on time) and they expected to have the the information from Arrohabitage by then.

There is a massive map on the wall of the Office for Foreign residents and it clearly shows where the road will pass under the railway line and join the A340 etc. I also asked to see the plans for the Maritimo Paseo development. We will have a lovely beech front if they ever get funding from the regional government to do it. There are elections this Sunday so maybe things will be different afterwards

The elections of today show that the current impasse will go on. Fuengirola has a mayor from the right wing PP, while today the country again voted for the socialists on a national level. This means the stalemate over the Paseo/Seaside renovations will undoubtedly be prolonged as the national government has to provide the funds and the mayor of Fuengirola didn't make herself popular with the reigning prime minister.

Irene the damaged glass was a table top we replaced. We were told to leave it by the bins on Friday and it would be collected on Friday night...........unfortunatley it wasn´t so we´ll have to contact them again.

The time for paying the council tax is May to October with a discount available if you pay by some date in June. This may be why you can´t pay online yet

Hi all,

I just posted some pictures on the forum. One may look a little strange as it is taken looking at the ground floor patio area. I thought this may be of interest to people as it highlights weaknesses in the Don Juan design. Here the person on the second  floor has washed their balcony the water has been allowed to drain and falls onto the ground below. Now the person on the lower ground floor is treated to a filthy patio. Nice one !!

In this case I assume the person doing the washing was oblivious to their actions, although I never saw them once look to see where the water was going.

Thoughts anyone?

There is an easy way to solve this if the people on the ground floor had a down pipe from the first balcony going into a water but this would help, they then  need to put a hose pipe from there water but and make holes in the pipe as this would let the water onto there garden and drain away and some gardens have a rockery area in front of there garden where the water could drain this could help some people.bye irene

I'm not sure if you have been in Don Juan during a rainstorm Sawalanza but the water runs off the roof into the top balcony then down onto the 1st floor balconies then finally into the gardens below. The rest of the balconies also drain onto the gardens so therer can be quite a lot of water coming down. We have artificial grass and it seems to cope with this very well. Having said that I do think it is anti social to use excessive water when cleaning your balcony - it is always going to drain into someone else's.

On another subject the cheringuitos have all reopened and Carvajal has woken up for the summer. The pizza place on the front that closed last year has reopened with new Sicilian owners. The pizzas were good but they hadn't got the hang of service when we were there (they're only open a week). We also went to the highly acclaimed fish restaurant that has recently been refurbished right at the end of the road on the left. The fish was good but don't go if you don't like fish - they don't do anything else!

Westport Amigo!

RENFE have changed the timetable from 2nd April so all that hard work you did has gone to waste. Trains now leave Carvajal for Malaga at 23 and 53 past the hour. For Fuengirola from Carvajal at 02 and 32 past the hour and from the airport for Carvajal at 04 and 34 past the hour. This is all I had time to write down. Maybe you can work out the rest based on these times.

Our new maintainance company have painted the manhole covers today. I am sure this is worthwhile but it doesn´t seem that important compared to all the other problems we face.

The change in Train timetable seems to be because the Malaga Centro station is closed during renovations. I am not sure if the old timetable will return when the renovations are finished.

They are digging up Avenue de Carvajal to instal sewer pipes. A good old British contra flow is in operation. The road that goes up under the tunnel is frequently blocked wth diggers and lorries and is even more difficult to get up than normal.
