Hello Jo,

We've bought our television at Warten, they are near Aki (direction Mijas Costa) and also in Malaga near Ikea.

Ours is a Philips tv and it works well, but I'm sure other brands will work well too.

Kind regards,

Corrie

Spain
24 March union vote is in. CCOO union and CGT union are A okay with the deal. That means Spanish firefighters, maintenance personnel, engineers, computer scientists, track flaggers, administrative, technical, operational and passenger personal care users and customers service of the Spanish public airports are going to work for you this Easter and summer holiday. No plan B needed. We, like you are ready to move on, but will continue to keep a beady eye on them. Still make a hotel reservation at the airport departure and returning airport, cancel when you board. Yep, call us paranoid.

April 1:st today. Reading the Euroweekly. Is this for real? It's soon time for 10 years celebration.

Article reads:

Carvajal bid

FUENGIROLA Town Hall has once again demanded that the Public Works Minestry urgently give authorisation to start the last phase of the Paseo Maritimo at Carvajal, which has been `blocked and paralyzed´by Central Government since 2004.

End of article.

This is positive but I just wounder who has paralyzed works to make the road paralell to the railroad leading up to Don Juan?

Below is a copy of a post from another EOS community forum which I found interesting:

For anyone that still wants to come and live in the Mazarron district of Murcia DO NOT be put off MCC, the owners now control what happens here and gradually are making it the place it should be.

We have just taken receipt of more than a Million Euros as part of a court case award against HUma and with this money MCC will be finished, we have already connecded all but a 130 homes to Iberdrola, we are about to sign a contract  to complete the water infrastructure and thus eliminate the water problems that afflict us every summer.

The roads will be completed and the greena areas will not be desertlike for too much longer, I doubt we will ever have a golf course but the probability is that it would be a financial nightmare anyway.

We are having to do it ourselves but better that than just sit back and feel sorry for ourselves, the residents attitude has changed markedly, gardening is taking place all over the site in done by individudals and groups.

MCC is worth a visit I assure you but be careful and do not buy properties from HUma ALL of which are mortgaged or embargoed.

I am neutral. However I have used VIP Hotspot in the past and they have sent me an e-mail to advise of the demise of the company and the following extract from that e-mail may be relevant in light of Ken333's post:

It has been brought to our attention that a company have somehow taken our database and been emailing all our customers purporting to be owners of the network and as such that all customers have been transferred to them. This is not true as it is impossible to transfer ownership of customers from one company to another and you should be very wary if they contact you. They have only been set up in the last week.

This company has stated they have taken over the VIP network and that they will not charge you anything to connect to their system? Also that you may “try the service for one week, free of charge”

Whilst at first sight this offer may seem “attractive” the question you should ask yourself is:

“If they claim to be the new owners of the VIP Network and more importantly the contracts of VIP, are they as a result going to honour the advanced payments made for provision of service.”

Conclude as you see fit.

I have had a few enquiries about the Phase 1 pools which were closed for improvements and maintenance. The block 6\7 pool is open again now and the 8\10 pool will be open early next week. It's really hot this weekend and if the weather stays as it is I am sure they will be well used over Easter.

Dear Don Juan neighbors,

A copy of the sales contract of the hotspot infrastructure between VIP-Hotspot and Francisco López Jerez, owner of WIFI Blue S.L has been sent to the administrator of Don Juan.

Anyone that want to see the contract can contact the administrator.

Kind Regards,

WIFI Blue S.L

three updates this time: first post.

@David. Please try to avoid simultaneous maintenance at two pools. This always annoys owner and renters. We expect to have at least one open the whole year as we dediced so on of the early AGM´s so people expect this. With two pools there is no reason to close both. Besides maintenance can be done during the winter months, not in early Spring. There were people swimming as early as February.

As a second reminder make sure that this year a midweek is used to check the pumps and cleaning system to the maximum to avoid last years disasters where they failed in the high season at least three times. Leaks and other avoidable problems could have been sorted before the real heat of the Summer and the maximum power of the pumps was needed.

Meanwhile I hope the loose tiles which plagued us again last year and caused childrens foot bleeding just like the year before has now been properly fixed and the steps to the pool firmly fixed finally. They have been loose since a few year and especially the one in the 8/9 pool which is used most by children and elderly.

Second update:

the war between two parties claiming to be the successor of VIP is confusing for everyone and the post from WifiBlue adds to this.

Let me explain what happened in reality:

we always had two providers of community Wifi: the oldest being VIP and later David seems to have selected a company called Wificonnect also known as Barry as ´official provider´ although such decision never passed an AGM as far as I know. As WifiConnect on it´s own AND as representant of Y-internet you always had three choices in Don Juan.

VIP hotspot´s were operated from the roof of block 9 thanks to Ken and from block 2 thanks to us, but the last one has been taken over by the president to our surprise as we thought we already had an official supplier. Nevertheless we were happy with this development as we only did it to get more reach into the rest of the community. Personally we didn´t get any favours out of it as we can´t see our own roof so used the antennas on block 9 like we always did.

The signal of Wificonnect seems to have lost their signal strength suddenly as everybody now needs an extra private payable antenna so it´s no longer a community facility. Very unfortunate.

A month ago VIP went broke. One of the owners ended in jail and it created a huge mess. One ot the friends of this man went with a new company WifiBlue while the other former owner made a deal with Rednet to transfer customers who wanted so. As former ViP customers we had to listen to all the confusing emails and sorted out ourselves that Rednet was the correct partner and inheritant of our contract. No doubt this statement will be drawn into doubt by at least one supplier, but in my view they should not even be allowed to post on a community forum.

We checked both companies, their claims, their infrastructure and decided that it was clearly Rednet who got the rights to offer the services to former VIP customers, did exist for a long time, had a professional situation and offered proper infrastructure. We got recently connected (no we didn´t get any discount for mentioning them!) and are indeed very happy. Much better than all the old infrastructure we ever had and we tried them all.

Apparently the committee has forbidden the Blue camp to broadcast and the Red camp didn´t do it or offer it. Our connection is just for private usage. So for holiday makers and temporary usage there is only one choice now: Y-internet. This is an unfortunate situation as the down times occur often, the prices are high for short time use etc. Not very attractive for a community. Potential renters, buyers and weekend owners like to have a choice so I hope a new second supplier will be admitted for these people:

BTW: i didin´t forget to mention our ´official´ Wificonnect provider but they are not available unless you make a large investment and are a light but semi permanent user. This combination is rare and only serves the needs of a minority.

I hope this situation gets fixed before the season starts as it will rain complaints otherwise. Two suppliers with choice of services and tariffs is ideal and there will be a lot of providers willing to do so now that phase II is fully occupied. A monopoly is anyway impossible and unlawful. When selecting a second one together with phase II and III preferably we need to scrutinize them on an official license to broadcast wifi. This is not a common thing and lots of companies don´t really have them.

To end this short stream of updates on a high note:

There has been important developments regarding ´boulevard street´ the fancy name for the dirt track along the road dwindling down to the Avenida Carvajal. The full text can be read below but the management summary is that it´s completely realistic to expect the dirt track and the ruined tarmac at the other side of the railway will be hugely improved.

It was pointed out to me by a very nice Spanish neighbour (you know who you are :) from phase II and it´s relevant for all residents in Don Juan. I only put it here because this seems to be only thread with some life in it.

The news is that the central government has stepped in on behalf of our town hall councelor Ana Mula and made a deal (read: forced a solution) with Adif the owner of the railway infrastructure. Diplomatically it´s now said that Adif always referred to the Madrid government for a license to use that area (as it´s theirs by lay), but as there has always been a second conflict on the destination of the area Adif owned across that road, reality will have been different.

See f.i. the diplomatic but clear note of Ana Mula:

Tras estos años de tramitación del mencionado expediente, según relató la concejala, y no habiéndose emitido la correspondiente autorización hasta que no se procediese a la desafectación de parte de los terrenos que ocupa el mencionado bulevar público (zona de servidumbre de protección del ferrocarril), por fin se produjo el pasado 25 de junio de 2010.

Anyway the work to upgrade the road can now proceed and the town hall expects a proper solution for both parts of the road (both ends of the tunnel) within a few months. The developers from the different areas (UR zones) will have to pay for it so it won´t cost the town hall a dime.

Later a final solution for this connection will be mady by going underneath the railway presumable at the place I have always claimed to be the final connection to the N340 at the back of phase I connecting to the new roundabout there but the article is not very precise on that point.

There is more news in the article about the future solutions to properly connect the Carvajal area to the A7 but I would need to retype the whole Spanish article for that. For those of you with a bit more time read: the full article here http://www.teleprensa.es/malaga-noticia-291128-Fomento-da-el-visto-bueno-a-las-obras-del-bulevar-de-Carvajal-de-Fuengirola.html

Disclaimer: this information is based on my interpretation of this article and the official license has not yet physically arrived at the town hall like our councelor states. However she is confident as she already got noticed it was on its way.

Max.
