When I spoke to the foreman etc, they told me 3 months. They just didn't say which 3 months :)   It is supposed to be done by July, but Calv could be right, it could be July 2013 the way they work there.

Andy

They were painting white lines on  the Mijas Road today - all neatly marked out with masking tape and painted with a roller on a stick.

It is fair to say we are not quite at that stage just yet! Our contractors have been working hard, building a compound to keep pipes in. Digging a 4M deep hole beside the station - I am not sure why but it is bound to be to remove or instal a pipe. They have also aquired yet another portakabin.

On a more positive note pipes and manholes are being installed and the shape of a road is slowly emerging. Levels on the section between the bridge and the railway station are a lot lower than before.

I expect the road to be substantially complete before the summer holiday in August. In fairness we are not talking about a layer of tarmac over the existing base and I have no reason to doubt that what we are going to get will be worth the wait.

Hi David,

Thanks for the update. This is great news for all at Don Juan. I guess next to come will be a small bar and mini supermarket, OK i'm dreaming but I'm sure it will happen one day, when all the land next to the road gets developed. :-)

Regards Andy

Hi Andy

The photo below shows the road emerging - a week ago there was a trench with pipes in along here.Behind the fence on the right is a footpath at the old road level. The tops of the manholes are likely to be the finished road level

One more....the pipework in the lower section of the road looks pretty well complete. This lot were delivered this week and are most likely for the section between DJ and the station. It will be interesting to see what happens next week.

Hello neighbours from a hot Spain:

Last week I asked the road workers when the road will be ready.

The plans are the road should be ready in August.

If you already knew about it, sorry for the double message.

I think it will be great, let's hope they will also remove the garbish in front of DJIII.

The mayor spoke on the paper we found in the mailbox about the boulevard of Carvajal and meant our road!

Some people looked at it and I think they gave instructions (hope so).

So after many years I guess the end is near.....good for our cars/bikes,feet.......

Kind regards to all of you,

Corrie

A return ticket to Fuengirola by train now costs 2.20 euros more

As well as the increase in a single train ticket, the day return fare has been abolished, making the return trip cost 50 per cent more

The dramatic increase in Cercanías or local train fares, first hinted at by Renfe in April, has now actually come about.
A single ticket has gone up by 12.7 per cent, which in the case of travelling from one end of route C1 to the other (Malaga-Fuengirola or vice-versa) means a rise from either 2.95 (during the week) or three euros (weekends) to a standard 3.35 euros. Additionally the day return discount has been abolished, meaning that doing the round trip on the same day now costs 6.70 euros instead of last week’s old rate of 4.50 euros.
Unhappy travellers
Many regular train users are indignant about the steep and sudden rises. The Malaga publicist María Godoy was one of the first to complain. “I use the train almost every day, to go from Torremolinos to the centre of Malaga and back again. Until last Monday the trip cost 2.25 euros. Then it went up to 2.50 and today I discovered that the same journey now costs 3.70 euros. People at the station were bemused to see such a large hike in fares”, she said.
New discounts
Renfe officials claim that the day return discount (which was only used by seven per cent of passengers) has been replaced by a new tariff deal, much requested in their market research. The ‘Bonotren’ consists of ten train trips which are valid for a month and can be used by more than one person travelling the same route. For the Malaga-Fuengirola journey, ten tickets cost 23.45 euros which means that each one is now only 19 cents more than the original day return, a much more acceptable rise of four per cent. Malaga is one of the first provinces for the new deal to be implemented.
This isn’t ideal for everyone. Inmaculada Beltrán has a car but uses the Cercanías train service several times a month for work reasons. “It doesn’t suit me to buy a monthly ten ticket pass because I only go to Malaga five or six times a month. Now, though, I have no option but to get one”.
According to Renfe the average recent rise in train fares is ten per cent and refers to local train lines as well as medium distant journeys. While the rise in single fares is the greatest, frequent train users will benefit the most from the new system of discounted tickets.
The tourism industry warns against the sharp rise
The sudden and dramatic increase in Cercanías (local train) fares has been widely criticised by officials of the tourism industry on the Costa del Sol.
According to the head of the Malaga hotels association (Aehma), Rafael Prado, many visitors to the coast use the train to visit the city on their holidays. “It’s bad enough that during the past Semana Santa holiday period there were none of the usual supplementary services on the line. This rise is bound to have a negative impact on the city.”
Pedro García, president of the Andalusian travel agents association (Aedav), agrees with Rafael Prado. “Tourists taking the train may not notice the fare rise but they will comment to their travel agents once back home that the cost of local public transport on the Costa del Sol is high. This is not a good thing for our destination”.

There have been some queries about registering on the Padron to avail of the 25% discount on Town Hall taxes so I went along and enquired what I needed to renew my registration, which is required every 2 years. The lady in the Foreign Residents Office told me I now needed to get a Certificate of Registration as a Citizen of the EU. These are obtained from the National Police Station. We went to the police station, picked up the EX-18 application forms last week and were given an appointment for today.

We had to pay €10.20 each the day before at the bank. We were at the police station for a little over an hour but it was all relatively straighttforward. You do not need to be a permanent resident to obtain this certificate although you are required to get one if you will be in Spain for more than 90 days. You simply need a local address and telephone number.

Thanks for providing this information on renewing the Padron registration David.

Can you clarify the following please:

The 10.20E paid at the bank - did you have to present the completed form EX-18 to the bank and obtain a stamp thereon or receipt as evidence of payment to show in the police station?

You say the "National Police Station", presumably this is not the Policia Local station next to the Ayuntamiento in Fuengirola?

Does the certificate itself expire after a period of time and need to be renewed periodically?

The 90 days mentioned refer to 90 consecutive days I presume - is this correct I wonder?

Hi Gericom

When you come out of the Town Hall into the big open square the Local Police station is on your left. You need to walk across the square to the road then turn right. The National Police Station is about 100M along this road.

You need to have your passport with you when you go to the Nat Police Station. When you get there go up the steps and turn right into the documentation department. (as with most things in Spain you need to go in the morning). In the documentation room there will be lots of people. There is a man behind a desk on your right hand side (normally with a queue in front of him). Queue here then when it is your turn ask for an EX-18. He will need your passport and will fill in a few details on the form, give you some instructions and give you the EX-18 together with the triplicate bank payment form. He will also make your appointment for your application to be processed and give you a number.

When you return you will need the completed form, the payment form (stamped by the bank), your passport and a photocopy of the picture page of your passport. When your number is called you go up. There is lots of keying into computers, rubber stamping etc and eventually you are handed an EU certificate of Registration card.

They don't speak much English in the Nat Police but they seemed friendly. I was never asked how long we stay in Spain but would have said we were here for more than 90 days if asked.

I think this certificate is worth having. As well as the TH discount currently it will also get you access to free emergency health care - although this may change.

The form says that the certificate will expire in 5 years. There is no mention of this on the actual certicicate.

Hi all

I could hardly belive this information when I read this. Can it really be true that our Boulevart is being done this year and the beachfront maybe next year. At least it seems like the work on Carvajal beachfront has now been approved

Spanish link to the article below: http://www.elmundo.es/elmundo/2012/05/28/andalucia_malaga/1338219996.html

Translated with google :

INFRASTRUCTURE | bidding goes on in the coming months

The Government approves the final phase of the promenade of Fuengirola

Europa Press | Málaga

Updated 28/05/2012 17:56 hours Monday
Decrease text size
Increase text size

The waterfront project Carvajal, Fuengirola, has been approved, according to a letter sent to City Council for Coasts this past Friday, in which it was reported that the remodeling project of the fourth stage of that tour had been approved by the Ministry of Environment and could go to bid in "the coming months or at least before the end of the year."

The letter, which was read on Monday by the mayor, Esperanza Oña, in celebration of the full City, has been sent by the Head of the Demarcation, Gonzalez Castiñera in response to a request for information made by the Department of Planning two days before to know the status of processing of the project, which has blocked eight years earlier after the central government (PSOE) to annul the bidding of the same in July 2004, as reported by the City Council.

Ona, who has been "very pleased" by the announcement, said that according to the information they handle, the work could go out to tender "very soon", but the commitment is that the tender be made before year end . In any case, come out with a budget of four million euros.

Missive

In the letter, Gonzalez Castillera reports that on March 5, 2012, approved the list of characteristics that govern the recruitment of the remodeling project of the fourth phase of the promenade Juan Carlos I, King of Spain. The May 11 was finally approved that project by the director general of Sustainability and the Sea Coast with a budget of EUR 4,087,483.37, prior to the bid and award the construction contract.

In addition the Costas added that the May 15 proceeded, this demarcation, to perform the act of staking prior to check geometric reality of the work and the assumptions contained in the project, which are central to the contract award. It was also found the availability of land required for its normal execution.

For its part, the councilor recalled that comes from work pending an agreement between the City and the Government of Spain for the remodeling of the promenade, based on an implementation project that divided the entire trip in four phases.

Thus, the agreement between the municipality and the Ministry of Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs, with commitment from the State administration in its letter dated October 2, 1995, provided that the Consistory executed 25 percent of the project and Government the remaining 75 percent-25 percent for each phase.

And after the Consistory and the Government made the first three parts, indicated that in 2004 came to contest the fourth and last, corresponding to Carvajal, "but in July 2004 and with Zapatero as head of government, is canceled tender without explanation. "

Therefore, "when he had a change of Government, January 3, 2012, sent a letter to Environment Minister asking for an appointment to discuss and address the issue of the fourth phase. On January 18 we come together for the February 14, when we went to Madrid and when we gave a press conference announcing the government's firm commitment to the project. "

"After this visit, we continued telephone conversations, in which they have always ensured that everything was going with reasonable process." Even Ona has stated, as in the State Budget (PGE) "did not show any game, I spoke with the Minister of Environment on the phone, which reaffirmed the commitment."

I went and looked at the plans in the TH a few years ago. There may be some changes when they go through the final design process but it is a major redevelopement. The starting point is the Gavia restaurant (which is said to be illegal and may have to be demolished) and the finish is the end of the Paseo (by Los Mainos Jose restaurant).

Part of the road will become one way and there will be a wide footpath the whole way. The plans I saw also included a new underground car park which actually went under the sea - although whether this makes it into the final design remains to be seen.

No one knows what is going to happen over the next few months and the economic crisis could still hit this developement. If it does go ahead it will make Carvajal very attractive and along with our "Boulevard" add significantly to the value of our properties.

Hi David,

Still none the wiser to the locations. You would swear I had never been there. Would it start from the bikini shop by the traffic lights, and how far going east. I remember a big rock in the sand near a quiet cocktail bar. Is it past this, if so how far, to holidayworld ?

I think you're maybe on the wrong road Pearce? The Paseo Maritimo Rey de Espana - that is the road beside the beach, from the Calypso past Slammers, The Cyber Bar and all the way to the end between the 2 Los Marinos restaurants.

Hi David

Yes, it's the beachfront road I am talking about. When you say it ends between the 2 Los Marinos restaurants, is that the roundabout at the end of the road. The dead end, or further on.
