can anybody say what insurance is required if you let your apartment over and above normal contents and building insurance?

I was told for short term rentals to ensure i had public liability insurance in case anyone trips, falls and so claims against you for damages.

Check with your current house insurer as usually they can add this in for a small premium. If they are spanish, you could try Linea Directa or any of the brokers advertising in spain
