Perhaps that was an odd analagy, and as soon as I hit send I realised that someone would nit pick, and I am never disappointed lol.

What's all this working class reference.  Is it only the upper classes that enjoy culture - is that the implication?   If so, then please stick to Benidorm and other such places.  Leave Madrid and BCN to the more discerning holidaymaker.

I consider myself to be of working class stock, whether I have made good or not is irrelevant.

To each their own thank gawd.

Imagine what it would be like if more people went to Benidorm - sacrebleu!

Inverted snob?

I've just asked my daughter if I'm an inverted snob.  When I explained what it meant she said, 'Yes you are!'  So there we are.  I use the term 'working class made good' for want of anything better to describe myself as a working class person who has done well educationally and financially and whom thus might be deemed by some to be middle class, but not by myself.  The reason I don't define myself as middle class is because although economically I would be classified as such, I believe the term to also include sociological and psychological elements, and to be pretty subjective in quality, being closely linked to a person's self-identity.  Having been brought up in relative poverty in a council house and on a diet of popular culture such as Coronation Street and pop music, I didn't one day turn into a middle class person with all that entails and my own personal history wasn't suddenly erased and replaced with a different one (the professional parent, the piano in the sitting room and so on) but I am also no longer comfortable describing myself as working class as that seems a bit disingenous now, hence the use of the term 'working class made good.'  If anyone wants to add anything to that analysis or propose a more suitable term, feel free.

Thanx Bob.  I actually knew but invited the poster to elucidate in the vain hope they might realise how silly and foolish they sound.

Well, I can't compete intellectually with that rebuttal.

Watching with interest how we got off topic.  And thought I would add my two penneth worth for what itt's worth.  I am at a loss as to why someone would need to define their social class on the internet, very weird and very 70's.  The need to elevate oneself to a wealthier status, and by wealth I don't necessarily mean in monetary terms is vulgar.

It might perhaps also reflect something else !!

Eggcup  I fully understand what you were saying and that you only tried to define what you considered your social class because of other posters comments and a specific request by one for you to do so. I am sure these others understood as well but have nothing better to do than be pedantic and contrary. Suggest you leave them to it as it isn't worth the time and energy to respond to their silliness.

Thanks Poppyseed.  And you're right.  I did just answer a request to define the term 'working class made good,' and the best way to do it is to use an actual example rather than talk in some general way.  And I do choose fairly often not to respond to some people, notably Harry and Foxilady recently, as I prefer to answer people who can make an intelligent contribution to the debate.

Yes I do, and I also appreciate you like the sound of your own voice and your own opinion/agenda.  Hop you manage to sell your flooded properties btw!  As I often state mug punters can always be found all over the globe.

I am reading the posts and eggcup brought up the class question in one of her earlier posts, and was asked to define this so why the attack, when someone posting is obviously hung up on her working class routs, othewise why mention class at all.

I have to ignore my own advice since Foxilady has made a statement which I assume refers to me as it follows my post, she said

'Hop you manage to sell your flooded properties btw! As I often state mug punters can always be found all over the globe'.

Perhaps Foxilday would care to enlighten me and explain about  the flooded properties I have for sale, is this the mysterious agenda I have? I have never owned or tried to sell a flooded property anywhere in the world. I am not currently trying to buy or sell any property of any description anywhere in the world. She can be as deluded and offensive as she likes but I do take exception to lies being peddled and await an explanation.

My comments were NOT directed at you, i posted before yours but somehow they got out of sequence.  Why jump to such conclusions and be so defensive and rude in the process?  I got my egg and seed muddled hahahahahahahaha  The latter part of my post was for eggcup, the two names for some reason get confused in my brain as foodstuff lol.  Anyhoo no need to be so rude and aggressive; talk about ready to jump in with size 10's!

Deary me, its getting out of hand again! Class system should never have been brought into the thread, thats typically British whether its snobbery or inverted snobbery. Thats one of the reasons I love Spain, their language doesn't even have a word for "snobbery". Classes aren't an issue here and shouldn't ever be, at most you can tell if someone was educated or not and that's about it. Why don't we get back on the subject ? What ever it was...
