Hello eveyone,

Just want to introduce myslef - and my family...

I'm Jenna, 26 years old and I'll be moving to Algorfa in the Costa Blanca next May with My husband and our baby who is 4 months old (he'll be one when we move)

Any advice that can be given on moving with a baby would be much appreciated....he's one of the main reasons we're doing it, so we can offer him a better life with more opportunities, have a life that's more family orientated and so I can feel safe to let him go and play in a park and not have him come across dirty syringes or be beaten up for his dinner money!!  We currently live in Cardiff, and it's not so nice here anymore.....

After the sale of our house, we hope to have enough cash to see us through for the first 6-12 months.  I'm a singer and I'm really hoping that I can find some gigging work around where we live and my hubby's a personal trainer who wants to start his own business - do these sound like a good idea, and more importantly, realistic work goals?

Any advice, comments, and (not to harsh) critisisms will be noted!!!

Thanks! Jenna

Jenna and family, Welcome to the Forum.

Well what a very exciting time for you!

I believe that you should "take the plunge" when you are young ... i would hate to say "what if???" later in life.  My husband lived and worked in Australia and the Bahamas and he says that it enhanced his life and he does not regret one minute of it ... his only regret was that after he came "home" from Australia he waited too long before applying to go back and then his age was against him and so he wasnt able to return there to live.

I regret not taking a job i was offered overseas when i was in my 20's .... i was too cautious.  But now we are making up for it by planning a life both here (where my husband's children are) AND in Spain.

If you want to make a go of things in another country you will.  Both you and your husband have skills that will make finding work in the Costa Blanca a good possibility, and the fact that you have the finances to keep yourselves while you find your feet makes things easier for you.

All i would say is make sure that between now and May you do you homework, find out as much as you can, and prepare for the move, then there will be no nasty surprises.  There is lots of information on this site ... have a good trawl through it and if you have any questions just ask and you will be sure that someone will help you find the answer!

Its a really exciting time for  you all, enjoy it.

Best of luck to you!

Jenna & family

What a great life you're going to have & at such a young age, too. Your son will grow up bilingual without realising it, what joy rather than trying to tackle learning Spanish at a later time of life. I have a friend who moved to Spain with youngsters of 8 & 10 &, within about 6 months at Spanish school, they were fluent with the most wonderful accent. They lapped it all up. Your son will truly benefit by going to Spanish school eventually & he'll integrate well, not knowing any different. You will meet Spanish mums & integrate well because of having your son. The owner of EOS, Justin, lives on the CDS & has five year old twin daughters. Read his blog Justin's blog & his wife's too Susan's blog & get a flavour of life in Spain with a family. Georgia, who posts on here has a 4 yr old plus older ones & lives in Algorfa. He'll tell you about life in that area. (Yes, Georgia is a male )

I've put a video on for you as it's special to me Spanish Eyes by Al Martino, well before your time, I know.

My very best wishes to you all.

Hi Jenna

Welcome to Eye on Spain.

In my opinion you are doing this at just the right time.  You're both young and your son is so young that he's going to settle in really well.

In terms of what you want to do well only yourselves will really know what's involved so the only advice I would give is "GIVE IT EVERYTING YOU'VE GOT"....and enjoy it!!

Best of luck.

Justin

Hello Jenna,

You have chosen a great place to move to, we have a flat in Algorfa and can only go out for holidays, but the time we spend in the town proves how lovely it is.

If you want to get a feel of the fiesta have a look on You Tube search Algorfa and fiesta 2007 and it will show you a little of what the carnival is like. It is a real family place and everyone is included.

Sorry can't offer any advice regarding moving only what I have learnt over the years in that,  if it is meant to be it will happen ( from my Mum) and there really is no rush relax and enjoy the moment ( from me!)

Good luck, before you know it it will be May and you will wonder where all the time went!

Hi Jenna,

You will love it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your baby will have the best start any parent could offer.

I live in Algorfa and think it is a fantastic little town,i have children aged 4,11 and soon to be 14.

All the children's social activities revolve around the town, dancing, football, school trips, swimming, fiestas etc etc....

The work situation is probably the hardest hurdle to overcome but you both sound like you have proffesions that will suit the area.

The school is absolutely fantastic and they start going all day at 3!

You are very sensible giving yourself a buffer to live on as the first few months are the hardest and although the cost of living is low here you will be suprised where your money goes in the first few months.

There is a good doctors in Algorfa, bring all your medical records with you and get your padron from the town hall and register yourselves with a doctor straight away, they have a specialist child doctor at the clinic.

Good luck and i am sure you will have a great life,we came here for pretty much the same reasons as you and not one day have i ever looked back.

Regards

Georgia

Hi!!

Thanks everyone, for the warm welcome and for making me even more excited about moving to Spain!!!

We are really busy doing our homework at the moment, and can't believe how quickly time is going.  We're still trying to decide whether to move our furniture and things over, or whether to start from scratch and buy everything new once we're there - we're learning Spanish (although I've got a little rusty in the last few months since the baby came along - he is SO time consuming!!!) but I've bought some Spanish nursery rhymes CD's and "Spanish baby talk" CD's to keep me going - my favourite phrase has to be "No llores" - "Don't cry!" - I seem to say that alot, lol!!

I hope I'll be a more frequent visitor to the forum now, I'm sure I'll need to pick your brains about many things before we move and once we get there!

Thanks again for all your replies, I'm off to check out the fiesta in Algorfa on You Tube now!!

Jenna xxx
