Oh dear talk about over analysing these posts.  Everyone can have an opinion on this subject, and this is the point it's an opinion and not fact.  But let's keep it simple, all the data provided so far by personal friends, business information etc points to the sad fact that Spain is in a hole and the propery market is suffering hugely.  No point in my going into minute detail abut this in order to prove it, it is what it is and imho I think anyone involved in property would be barking mad to invest in Spain.  On a more personal level individuals are scared to buy in Spain for many reasons, ie no jobs, leaving their children a pile worth nothing, health departments in Spain going broke and on it goes.  A poster made  reference to some people have the balls and confidence to buy in Spain, whilst that maybe so I personally do not believe it requires balls or confidence to buy into a sinking market, what it does require oodles of however is gross ignorance or stupidity.  I can believe the Russians are buying in Spain, the golygoks are buying all over the planet as I type.  I had a London flat on the market for exactly 1 day which was bought by a Russian with cash immediately.  I personally would not buy a property in Spain from a personal perspective or a business perspective.  I have been watching the Spainish market for some years now and based on evidence it would be insane to do so.  Even if a property came down by 50% I would not touch it.  Actually I can quite believe that some property is selling in and around Algorfa and Toerrevieja,  a if I had been foolish enough to buy a residence there I would be trying to move out!

I've heard from estate agents on the costa del sol that they have seen increased sales similar to what Georgia was mentioning, but this is purely a rush to beat the VAT increase next year.  Just wait until VAT on new property purchases rises to 10% in January.  That will kill off any recovery.

Regarding Harry's personal comment about my properties for sale:  He asked me about my houses and land for sale and requested the information on them, so I sent him these details in a personal message.  Because he asked me to.   He then said he was looking to pay less than I was asking.  That he should imply that I did something wrong, is beyond me.  As usual he thinks others are making personal attacks on him, when it is quite the reverse.  He starts these personal attacks but can't take any comeback.  He does this by using loaded terms such as saying I am trying to 'unload' my properties like they're a piece of trash and that I speak about them in 'glowing' terms... How does anyone expect me to speak about them?  I'm proud of them and I would like to sell them, as I like to keep moving in business and I could invest the money in a different way.  Big deal.  I also agree with what bobaol said regarding Harry coming on this Forum a few months ago asking for advice as someone who wanted to buy in Spain and knowing little about the property market and now suddenly he's the expert and is forever having digs at Georgia.  My suggestion to Harry is to stop making little digs and negative innuendos about people on the Forum and try and be less personal.

Its just "unusual" that you urge everyone to have the "balls & confidence to invest in Spain" & emphasise that you are "investing more money in the economy" while secretly struggling to unload your various properties. Nothing really confidential since half the Forum appears to know about it !

Hopefully, we may now get back on thread.

Put  a cork in it Harry.  I'm not struggling in anything I'm doing, apart from keeping my patience with you.  It's not my fault you can't afford my properties.  You'll have to cut your cloth.  And stay out of my business.

I don't know if Harry cannot afford to purchase your properties; it may he is very selective about what he wishes to invest in and how much he wants to pay in a sinking market,  If you think your asking price is appropriate for the market then is your prerogative,  but what really matters is what perspective purchasers think about your asking price.  A property is only worth what someone is willing to pay.  I myself find it amusing that you eggcup refer to having balls to buy in Spain; whilst I think one neeeds nerves of steel to try and sell in Spain, and that must be very frustrating for you which is evident by your rude posts.

Well this is almost too scary to dip a toe back into .....

But I felt I had to come back to Foxilady on her point that only a mug would buy into a sinking market.  Without wishing to sound like a stuck record, it depends why you are buying!  Moving here this summer, I need a home to live in.  And guess what, they're well cheap.  Yes it might be cheaper next year.  How does that help me live this year?  OK I could rent for a year, and would have if I hadn't found my dream home so quickly.  And do you know, as every month goes by, I find more to delight me and confirm I chose well, and nothing to disappoint, not even the chilly winter up here at over 2,000 feet.

So to me it is no surprise that Georgia and other agents are selling.  Because there are lots of folks, just like me, who don't give a flying fig about rising and falling markets, because the amount potentially to be saved is marginal in the great scheme of things.  And this is NOT "bigging up the market", because like John I have no vested interest in the market.  All I've got is a home in Spain and a life in Spain.

Enjoy the match, Roly and Georgia :-)

I certainly will tamaraesex - thanks.   I love going to Madrid - love the city and I will stay a couple of nights taking in game and some other visits.  And of course you are right - if you find the right place at a good price, then you buy.  It is a home and not an investment.

Hi Georgia,

Sorry to hear you have been accused of posting "drivel" & that your real estate firm may be losing business as a result.

Absolutely no disrespect intended but I will decline your invitation to meet. No doubt, you would be a wonderful fun person to sit next during a long formal lunch - but not to do business with.

Enjoy Madrid & Happy Christmas,

Harry
