First I would like to apologise as the following may seem harsh but really a reality

An MOT is valid for 12 months so the owner of a vehicle is aware when an MOT is due and that MOT’s on UK vehicles can ONLY be issued in the UK.

Is it really beyond the intellect of any person to plan ahead and ensure that the vehicle is back in the UK at the appropriate time – come on, it is not rocket science?

Yes there can be unexpected problems or emergencies which may cause issue for the simple planning of ensuring the vehicle is back in the UK on time and the travel back is during the validity period of the MOT. Forgetfulness is not really a valid excuse or is itwink

Tadd this was the post which started this thread

HI, can any one advise?

Currently we have tax, MOT and insurance to drive our UK car, although, the MOT is due to expire next month and we wish to stay in Spain for another 2 months, is there any way of MOT ing the car in Spain or even a temporary ITV or equivalent, to be legal to drive it back to the UK after the MOT as expired. Any info would be appreciated, if not has anyone any idea how much it would cost to transport a car to England.  Many thanks once again

johnzx

I get it and maybe they need to stay the extra 2 months for an emergency I do not know, but if it is just a like or a whim to stay then they should simply go back as planned and get the MOT in time - why take risks which is probaly the best and safest advice they can get

Thanks Baz, finally we know your area of expertise, you own a garage authorized  ( authorised) to carry out MOTs. .....PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN GLASS HOUSE'S!

Yes, John,  one of three area's, and certainly no "Expert"  and this is why I answered the post, because I spoke about something I do know a little about.

Tadd1966,  your post is spot on.
