I am the holder of an old green UK full driving licence and am now living permanently in Spain.

The licence has my old Uk address on it and I would like to change it to a UK photocard licence showing my new Spanish address.

I have been on the Direct.gov website and it says that i can change it only if  i am a UK resident, which I'm not !

One option would be for me to use a friends UK address and he could then post it to me in Spain but ths is not a route I want to take,

are there any alternatives ?

No, driving licences will only be issued to a UK address.

You now need a Spanish driving licence.

Apart from changing it to a spanish one, no, not that I know of.

Are you sure it says you have to be a UK resident?  As far as I know it says they will not put a non UK address on one. That's not the same.

Regards, Febe

I have a UK licence with a plastic photo card.  As the address is no longer valid, because I don't live in the UK anymore, I went to Traffico in Alicante and asked them if they could change the address to my Spanish one.  They seemed to think I was mad, but took a note of my Spanish address on the computer and then just gave me back my UK licence.  I also took the medical test (which cost 27€) and carry the certificate with me.  I haven't had to put it to the test yet, but hopefully if I am stopped then the police computer will show that there is a valid address associated with my licence.

Hi sorry theres no way round it you have to get a Spanish Licence  it will have your NIE no on it and the date your medical runs out the Police will be happy as well. Remember all if you are a RESIDENT OF Spain then you need a spainish Licence or pay the FINE up to 500e on a good day. Be safe and legal and change the Police need the MONEY and the motorist is easy pickings.
