Thanks all for the help.  I did visit the dgt site, just to check that the ticket was genuine.  They are very helpful, even list where all of the speed cameras are! - wish I had looked before!!  With my rudimentary Spanish I had not worked out that you can pay online, so many thanks Myra, I will try that.

Morerosada, I consider my wrists well and truely slapped!   Why do I speed in a Foreign Country? well if it is any consolation it isn't something I only do in Spain!  Give me a clear road and a car capable of going over the limit, and I just don't seem able to stop the wellie moving towards the floor!  In my defence (not of the speeding) I wasn't complaining at the Spanish for the ticket, fully accept it, just looking at how to pay it.  Maybe this will teach me a lesson and I will take things slower in future (or maybe I will just read the dgt page more often and slow down around the camaras!!

I will post to confirm that I managed to pay, and again thanks to all for the input.  Morerosada, I will check your pic when home, as the office pc blocks it.

Ted

Hello Morerosado. After the poor chap from the UK tried to pay through the website and I phoned the traffic departments in, wait for it, Alicante, Malaga, Almeria, Cadiznand Sevilla. guess what two answered by ansafone and left me hanging on waiting for Jesus I think. So I checked a few facts and well cant say what advice I gave. Its not a matter of wont pay, but thanks to incompetent goverment departments, cant pay.

I am not backtracking, this certain person may have not had all the information necessary. Like to hear from any one else who has problems paying through the website.

Just goes to show if you do silly stunts like speeding it causes you untold problems. We have been used to hiring a Citroen C3 for the many times we've been in Spain. This car has a huge display in front of the driver which I, as a front seat passenger, can see very easily. .

We have road works going on, on the major road near us (N332) as it's being changed from single lanes to a dual carriageway in each direction. The limit's currently 40km/hr in some areas & the car hates that speed. However, police are known to stop drivers for doing only a few kms over this so I'm forever telling my husband to keep well below. A local forum has threads with a lot about this on. One member reported he was fined for doing 43 in the 40 area. Now we've our own car there it's going to be more difficult to watch the lower speeds.

There are always people who will just do as they want then bleat about it later if it inconveniences them.

Please note: Ted, I saw that you are not complaining just needing to know where the fine can be paid.

100 euros they were fined !!

This may well be law, Maria, BUT police in our area (Valencian area) are certainly fining drivers well within these above. Our resident friends were fined around 70€ recently ( he paid on the spot so it would've been 100€ ) for doing 75 in a 70 area. Your tabulation shows he should've been doing between 81 & 100 to be fined that.

I've seen posts by others local to us who have been fined for doing 45 in a 40 area near us where there are constant roadworks due to the main N332 being changed from single lane to a dual carriageway. So, where's the justice ? How can this happen ?

Hello,

I'm new to this thread. The only reason i'm posting is because I, like Ted, has received a speeding ticket in the mail. I went to the website you posted, however i do not have a NIF or NIE or CIF number. I live in Canada so i believe that is why. Would you know of another way to pay or somehow without putting in this information. Is this information only required for residents of spain and/or Europe?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

David

When foreigners buy a property in Spain then they have to apply for an NIE number.  There will be taxes to pay so they need to have a tax identity number.

My neighbour's son is also going to have to apply for an NIE number as he is the beneficiary of her will.

I'm not sure if you also need to apply if you only rent a property in Spain but are still registered as non-resident.  Can't remember if I had to show it when I opened up my Non-Resident Bank Account, most things go by your passport number.

I did read somewhere that you should always keep that passport as you will need to show that one as well as your latest copy to prove your identity legally.  The expiered  passport would have been used to obtain your NIE.

Morerosada,

I agree with you, it seems that they have changed the rules and now lowered the bands.  My fine was for 150 in a 120 zone - so according to the table I should have received a €100 fine, mine was €140, which is the next level of fine (but fortunately no points!!).  I also saw in another post that they are now operating a zero tolerance policy in Spain, ie. 1kmh over the limit can result in a fine.

Ted

ps. - I can post on this string again  (...... obviously!)

Hi Ted, see I have controlled myself not chastising David  & I think another new member posted he too had been sent a fine in another thread (I can't keep up) but  when you said 'I also saw in another post that they are now operating a zero tolerance policy in Spain, ie. 1kmh over the limit can result in a fine.' it might have been a post I made, as somewhere I posted that I'd seen that a member of another forum said he was fined for doing 43km/hr in a 40km/hr zone which is near where we are in Spain (roadworks on N332 because of dual carriageway being constructed from single carriageways).

Hi David, consider your wrists slapped for speeding seeing as I slapped our friend, Ted's.

(Ok now Ted ? )

David, what's your plan of action to pay the fine now ? (Short of going back to Spain from Canada ? )

Ted, I read about the motorway fines in the 1st post in the community forum link you posted

http://www.eyeonspain.com/community-forum/16686/driving-in-spain.aspx

To be honest I'm rather amazed that anyone can say they were on the limit of 120. Personally, when we travel on the motorway, we do around 100 as I find that's a comfortable speed & gives you room to manoeuvre & my husband, who's the driver, would back me up so we are never likely to be caught speeding on the motorways.

That 1st post was very scary reading though. I could well imagine it all happening.

Hello,

Sorry for hijacking this thread but i've been searching the we and cant find any information.

I just received a speeding fine in the mail. The fine has a whole bunch of information including a very useless dgt website .  I'm willing to pay the fine however, I have a few problems:
1) I live in Canada and not planning to going back to Spain for a while
2) dgt online fine paying is useless as it needs an (NIF/NIF/CIF) and I dont have any of those

Can anyone please let me know if its possible to pay the fine from overseas?

Thanks.

How did you recieve copy of the  fine if you live in Canada?

I assume you were in a car rental, than best is to contact the rental agency and ask them. Most likely they will pay the fine on your behalf and charge you a heafy fee for the privalege. Other than that just ignore it as there is no way you can pay it.

www.dgt.es

Click Informacion de Carreteras

Then click Puntos de Control de Velocidad

Then use dropdowns for region and roads

Hope this helps
