Presidente / quiet life. That's an oxymoron.

Just found out today that our fire detection and alarm system, as well as the CO extraction system for the garage, has never actually been working - because it was never actually connected to a power supply. Good grief, I find myself thinking my life would have actually been easier if I had been President right from the beginning, 3 years ago. Instead I spend half my time figuring out everything that has gone wrong during the previous presidency, and then trying to rectify it! Thank God we've never had a fire or anyone suffer CO poisoning - our insurance obviously would NOT have paid out.

Mike

Take a look at www.intasure.com, maybe that might help.

Hi All

Just been trawling through the threads but can't find the answer to what I'm looking for. So sorry if this has been answered before. Attention span of a goldfish syndrome again  . Have paid for a years buildings and contents insurance after completing in Jan but being an apartment shouldn't the buildings be insured as a block? Still awaiting the minutes of the first meeting which we were not in attendance for. Over here the solicitors tend to insist that the whole building is covered by one and the same insurance company in case of fire, roof damage etc. Any help greatly appreciated.

candyfloss, you need to check with your administrator as most apartment buildings do come with a communal buildings cover, but you need to check as each community is different.

Read Karensun's post on this thread, 17th May, that just about covers it. As Justin says, you really need to find out from the community (president or administrator) what cover the community has.

Does anyone have any prices on Buildings and or Contents insurance? Also the companies they insure with? Has anyone made any claims which were handled rightly or wrongly?

Hi,

I have received a quote from Intasure for contents and building insurance which seems reasonable.

I do not know of any other insurer to compare it with.   Any recommendations.

Unfortunately,  Jeansis's (Janice)  previous very informative posts, about this matter, have been editted.

Anyone help?

Thanks

I apologise for that, Ellen. I will endevour to make amends if I'm permitted.

We used to be insured for buildings & contents for our house in Spain with a company called Saltsbay  http://www.saltsbay.com/  who are in Torrevieja & also Los Montesinos on the CB.  If you click on their "contact us" link it'll give you both office details & maps of where they are. We found them to be extremely keenly priced. Staff spoke perfect English, policy was also in English (which many aren't.)

However, after a year with them we heard about another company called easycover  http://www.easycover.net/  & they are in Torrevieja. Amazingly, they were cheaper so we are now using them. The policy is again in English. On their website you email them your phone number & they ring you. (An English girl rang us. I believe all their staff are English & we are assured if we need to call the emergency number it is English spoken as we have heard many are only Spanish.)  We said we did not want them to set up a direct debit which automatically takes money out each year & so, we paid with our debit card on a one-off basis. They sent the policy to our UK address & also emailed us a copy. They sent us a specimen policy before we arranged insurance.

I realise insurance companies are only as good as how it all goes through if you claim but then, how does anyone know till they claim. Hopefully we won't need to.

BTW, in Spain you should insure your kitchen & bathroom on your contents cover & not on your buildings cover we were advised. In the UK it's insured on the buildings cover.

I've been looking around for contents insurance and have been told that generally the Spanish do not purchase accidental damage cover in the way the British do, which makes the cost substantially lower. So whilst you would be covered if someone fell into your coffee table and broke it, you would not be able to claim for the old classic - a carpet ruined when a pot of paint was dropped on it, or a cigarette burn in your sofa. It would be seen as negligence. You can purchase cover with accidental damage from the British companies here, such as Abbeygate Insurance.

I didn't know about the kitchens and bathrooms coming under contents, so thanks for that, Jeans Sis. It makes sense when you look at the stuff that often gets removed from a property here when it changes hands!

Hope this helps

Rose

I don't know if it helps but we have got our insurance through our bank, BBVA, and we are covered for accidental damage. It is true that anything which is moveable comes under contents here.
