Does anyone know the latest on the Ikea that's supposed to be opening in Malaga or any other Ikea in Spain for that matter? There are rumours that they are planning one in Estepona area.

The Ikea in Murcia is well signposted from A7/E15 but the entry is  via a wild new roundabout system - much like all Ikea's in the UK.  It is very busy and the culture of flat pack doesn't export so well in Spain.  Beware of the cafe during siesta as masses of builders descend for their 'everlasting' cups of beer and the cafe grinds to a halt under the influx.

Yes - there is an IKEA in Murcia - I have been dragged there a couple of times already ...just head up the 3319 and keep driving through Murcia and it will appear on your right.

I'm not sure but I think the Ikea in Seville is maybe a little closer than the one in Murcia. I heard a rumour that they were opening one in Malaga, although were having some difficult with the land/building permissions or something. I've also heard that they are planning to open one in Fuengirola, but that won't be until 2008 apparently!

Don't cha just lurve Ikea? We have decided that when our villa is, eventually, ready that we will furnish practically everything from IKEA but spend a bit more on massive, squisshy, spanishy type beds.

Do you know if Ikea in Murcia would delivery to Salobrena, Costa Tropical. I've tried to contact them without success. Getting desperate now as I need furniture by Jan/Feb.07.

Hola,

I don't want to put anyone off using Ikea but I had quite a few problems with them myself.

If you havent already purchased your furniture why not try looking at some of the companies offering a complete furnishing pack. For me it worked out almost the same cost (maybe 100€ different) But I had nothing to do. I didn't have to fly back to meet deliveries which didn't turn up until 3 days too late (was here on a 4 day break at the time)

To cut a long story short I used Ikea for one of my properties & Oasis Properties S.L (formerly Palm Properties S.L) for the other which I signed for 3 months after the 1st one.

They had everything done within 2 weeks of signing the escritura. Their packs include all the furniture right down to teaspoons. I am now going to use them to finish off the 1st apartment.

Give them a try if you fancy doing it the easiest way www.oasispropertiesaguilas.com

According to the Ikea website, the store at Malaga is scheduled to open in August 2007.

Hi Condesa (is that Countess?) last I heard on Malaga Ikea was that they still did not have Licences for construction - whats new? We have an OpenCor near us that has been completed for about 6 months now and still not open because there are disputes with the authorities over licencing irregularities. Dont know if you know the Corte Ingles in Pto Banus but they opened a brand new extension earlier this year (whoops last year) - they had gone ahead without licences and apparently they are subject to a 15,000,000€ fine.

Just read elsewhere that there are sometimes huge price differences between IKEA in Spain and UK, and that some things actually work out cheaper to buy in Uk and ship over. Anybody got any knowledge of this?

Hi Roberto

Well funny you should mention. I measured up and looked at and priced the furniture I wanted in Ikea, Cardiff. Went to Ikea Murcia and was exactly the same price so I was a happy bunny. Would have thought they have to stay the same in all Ikeas but might be wrong.

I've been looking at IKEA to furnish our place when it's ready and have visited IKEA in Murcia on a couple of ocassions and found prices always either the same in Spain or slightly cheaper, now I have not looked at everything in the whole store but it sometime sfeels like it however I have never seen anything cheaper in the UK, you could always compare prices via the IKEA website just go to the UK and Spanish sites, plus when you can hire a man with a van for  €15 an hour it should work out a lot cheaper than shipping from the UK.

Hope this helps.

I have compared the websites for things like sofas and chairs, and (aside from possible x-rate fluctuations) can't detect much difference either. However, I have read in another forum that kitchen prices vary enormously. Whether they are the exact same product or not I don't know. I would have thought the whole IKEA idea is based on same products worldwide, but who knows? I have also been following threads about regional differences in pricing in Spanish supermarkets like Mercadona.

I picked up a catalogue whilst in Murcia IKEA and products and prices are virtually the same.
