Using Spanish words in written or spoken English

(For those who do not speak Spanish). 

Although it can work to just guess the Spanish word for what you want to say, it can be 'dangerous'..

Just a few examples:-

Pie                   “foot,”    the body part.

Delito                 not  “delight.”    But a  crime or serious offense,

Crudo                 Not “crude.    ” It can mean “raw,” like raw meat (carne cruda

Constipado         This Spanish word refers to sinus and nasal congestion

Propaganda        not political brainwashing but advertisements

Embarazada        means pregnant

Preservativo        is a   condom

Informe                is a report, as in a medical report of your treatment.

And of course the often misused:-

‘una denuncia’      is a report or complaint as in say a crime report,  or a complaint about noisy dogs., etc.

I consulted my dictionary to see what on earth I'd said to cause such a reaction!

My wife wanted more pillows in the Hotel

I some how got mixed up between alfombra and almohada

Caused quite a bit of consternation.
