Spanish bread sticksand rolls are great but loaves of bread seem quite different to UK sliced equivalents - sweeter in some way -  which just doesn't seem to go with baked beans and other savouries.  Can anyone recommend a sliced loaf that's just like at home (without paying 3 Euros in Iceland)?

As far as I can tell, all Spanish regular bread contains sugar, which I dislike intensely.

The baguettes however, are another story entirely, absolutely gorgeous!!

I buy a loaf, well two at a time, from Iceland in San javier called "Happy Bread" medium sliced for I believe 1.80 Euro. It is closest to Jacksons sliced which I loved but the shop that stocked it closed down. That was 1.80 as well. I have never paid 3 Euro for a loaf in Spain!! Surely, youré ávin´a larf??

My wife insists Warburtons was about 3Euros a loaf, which 'ain't no larf'!  Jacksons is apparently available at Camposol.  Yes, the baguettes are lovely - I'll just have to adapt...

Mercadona do a loaf called multi cereal which is great. Ideal for toasties. They also do a loaf called Mediterranean which has tomato, olives and oregano. Mmmmm.
Avoid Bimbo bread. It is very sweet, expensive and doughy. Jumerca Gama do Jackson bread if you are missing the British stuff. €1.60 for white medium at the moment but normally around 2 euros as is the granary, wholemeal and thick white. Avoid Iceland. Consum also do Kingsmill for €1.99 but make sure you check the sell by date as it sometimes is on its last legs.
We generally get a large chappata (sp?) From Mercadona and freeze it plus the multi cereal. The barras are, of course, delish.
