Andy, when you have made around 1,500 sensible, helpful posts I may like you too.

Please don't bother, I am not in need of being liked by someone with such an attitude.

Calm down.

I note you can be rude about others but are a delicate creature when its against you.

1,500 sensible posts??? ROFLMFAO. I have not read all the posts but the ones I have just repeat the same old stuff. Years in service, copious amount of time helping Policia / Guardia as adviser or the like. Time to bother making 1,500 posts. I assume a wise old age of at least 103 going buy the figures that are here in black and white.

I can remember a time in the City of London when Austen Reed got broken into one night and the next day all CID officers had new suits.

Were you in the City police by any chance Johnboy ?

LOL  LOL

Just to add to the fire: in my time in Spain -

One year driving a number of (obviously) hired cars - never stopped

One year driving my RHD British registered car - never stopped

Three years driving the same RHD, but now Spanish registered car - stopped twice, along with every other car on the same stretch of road, a cursory glance at the ITV sticker and waved on my way.

Week before last, there was a hold-up on the main road into Elche - cause was a checkpoint manned by the National Police - carrying LARGE automatic weapons - stopping work vehicles carrying 'gentlemen of non-Spanish appearance', so they were deffo NOT targeting us Brits!

Steve.

Warrior
I was not in the City of London,  but I have just sent a copy of your post to that Force and the Police Federation., so they may consider what action to take, under The Defamation Act 1996 and various other Statutes.

As there are just 1,000 officers in that Force and only a few are CID officers, very few of whom would have been on duty, you have made an allegation against a very few officers, thus the Force may consider action is appropriate.

Oh dear, this is getting silly now.  Up pops Warrior with a joke (not a very funny one, I must admit) and, instead of ignoring him, the replies only encourange him.  His first post on here (under that particular name) and a troll gets the required bites.

As he's been banned from several other forums, he's obviously looking for new blood.

How about we stick to topic?

Now, some of you seem to think the driver in UK is the paragon of safe driving who always uses indicators, never tailgates, is always in the correct lane and follows the rule of the road.  Sorry, you either have very bad memories or it's a long time since you went back to UK.  Indicators are a pointless extra on a car, tailgating is rife, lane discipline on motorways is abysmal and those using mobile phones appears to be on the increase despite it being illegal.  And there are a darned sight more cars on the road in UK than here.  Tell me, when have you actually seen anyone in UK on a sliproad joining a motorway actually stop if the inside lane is busy?  Never, they push straight in despite the give way signs on every road.

As for being stopped by police, never in my case.  Oh, yes, I've seen the checkpoints and the checking of papers, but I've never been stopped myselft.  UK police by us used to hide behind trees just after the speed limit changed to catch those who didn't slow down quick enough.  A popular spot near us was a rather steep downward hill where the limit changed from 50 to 30 at the top.  Police would regularly be at the bottom knowing how difficult it was to actually reduce that quickly.

Those of you that moan you get cut up by a Spanish driver going all the way round the roundabout shouldn't have been in the outside lane in the first lane if you were going straight on.  And how do you know he's Spanish?  Most of the bad drivers round us are obviously expats of some description.  Lost count of the number of Brit registered cars overtaking me when I'm doing slightly over the speed limit and not an indicator to be seen (and, yes, so do the Spanish but it also happens in UK as well).

And, judging by the number of very long term Brit registered cars nerar us, I would think they are perfectly justified in stopping them to check the paperwork.

Wow. things are getting a bit  heated on this thread now aren't they. I think Warrior's comment on the "push bike" was totally unnecessary and somehow I "hope" that the Police will not take much notice of the "CID's suits" comment, I'm sure they are far busier with other things. Wouldn't it be better if we got back on the thread, its insulting and silly comments like that and others that end up turning good threads sour and people just end up deciding not to post, full stop.

In re. to the thread, I think the pressure is on the police not to be so lenient. Somehow I do not believe that they are going to fine people for things thay haven't done, but not let little mistakes go by, as they have done in the past . At the end of the day, whether you agree with the fine or not, and in many cases you don't because it just doesn't make sense sometimes, it is the law and there's not much you can do about it. However one thing does bug me when I see a police car with no siren on, doing 80 on a 50km/h ring road (in Spain) with no back lights and maybe someone can answer this question, are policemen in Spain obliged to stop at a red light if their sirens/lights are not on? And can they park on a pedestrian crossing while having a coffee on the corner? I'm all for paying fines and fullfilling the law, but it gets annoying when you see "some" police doing as they wish. Can they? surely not.

If it is like the UK (and it almost certainly is) police are exempt from some laws, providing they don’t cause danger to others.

There is no obligation to use a siren at any time.  It’s for the ‘convenience’ of the police driver and sometimes can assist when they are on an emergency call.

They can cross on the red light, if it is safe to do so, exceed the speed limit, park in no parking areas etc. (Not of course to have coffee, but Mac I am sure you knew that),

Mac 75 I don't recall making a 'push bike' comment..........!!!

Perhaps more attention is required when reading.

Well many thanks one & all for the wonderful welcome to the forum.

I make one light-hearted comment including a very old joke and I'm immediately threatened with the Old Bill by Johnboy and receive PM's from ElaineG threatening me with Lord McAlpine or some such cobblers.

I think on reflection that I'll leave you to your boring, monotonous, repetitive threads, as you obviously enjoy wallowing in your misery.

Ta! Ta!...............LOL.

 Thanks johnzx

for your explanation, I thought that they would only be exempt of certain laws in the case that it was an emergency. So they can do what they want basically (in terms of traffic laws) as long it is "necessary" for fullfilling their professional functions.

Mac

In Spain,  It is always open to anyone to make a denuncia against anyone, including the police, if you believe they have infringed the law.

On a few occassions I have assisted people submitting complaints forms against the police, so far,  none making actual denuncias.

I know Johnzx, but to be honest I have never seen anything serious or worth reporting. They are just things that bug you from time to time :)
