Hi, Basically we live pretty rurally but all I want to do is speak to someone at telefonica, give them our address and check on the off chance that we may be able to receive adsl , as we do have a phoneline (disconnected) but it is proving difficult :( The website goes to movistar and any numbers I find through Google are proving redundant. I dont want to arrange or pay for anything only to have an engineer come out to say no bueno, when a *simple* primeval could save the trouble. Any advise etc would be much appreciated. Thanks, Ian

I wonder if you can enter the old phone number, if you know it, on their website? If you don't know it, there is a live technical support option under the help section (Ayuda). It automatically goes to the Movistar website because that is the operating name for Telefonica now.

We had the same problem with Telefonica a few years ago for what was then a new urbanization. We gave up and went to the local Vodafone store. The deal then was they gave you dongle and router and mobile phone that had both a mobile and landline number. You then only paid a certain amount until they arranged for Telefonica to hook up the ADSL line (as Telefonica have the landline monopoly like BT). In our case that was three months of free internet. The dongle then acts as a back-up when the ADSL goes down. All billing is from Vodafone.
They have been very good and will also turn off the service while you are not there.

Thanks for the info guys, Tamara I will try the live support, I could use Google translate to ask what i.need that way. Juan, there's no guarantee we can even get adsl in our location, I just wanted to try before we looked into satellite internet. It sounds like they looked after you at Vodafone though. If I make any progress I will post up, thanks again.

I think you're right Ian. I know many folks on here are very happy with satellite internet, but my friends who have it do complain about drops in the service. I asked a lot of businesses and interrnet professionals, and the consensus was that a landline will always offer a fast and more reliable service. I'm with Europa Network and am very happy. I pay Movistar €13.90 for the landline (organised by Europa Network) and €19.95 pm to Europa Network for internet, free calls to other European countries, and UK tv streamed to the computers.

Movistar is Telefonica which is why you are being redirected. However, from any phone, dial 1004 and, when it answers, say "English" and you will be put through to an English speaking operator. 1004 is a free phone number from all Spanish phones and they do tend to answer pretty quickly (in my experience but I've only called them twice).

I tried entering my address and postcode but no joy, it doesn't appear to recognise it. Although the address my landlord gave me does have a longitude and latitude attached to it, I will try calling them tomorrow, thanks again
