 Hello everyone

Please your advice and suggestions are needed desperately.

I bought a spanish registered van from someone who lives in the UK but the transporter lost the documents he was given by the seller of the spanish registered van.

As I live in the UK, kindly advice me on how to apply for the duplicate papers from the Spanish equivalent of UK DVLA.

Could this be done online or do I have to travel to Spain for the duplicate registration papers?

Your adive and suggestions would be gratefully appreciated

Many thanks

I had a similar issue selling a spanish car. The UK left hand drive specialist promised to do all the new registrations and deal with all the papers.

The car got sold to another brit in spain - but the papers were never done. I got speeding, parking and non-payment of taax fines for 3 years after I sold it until I personally went to Traffico in Alicante with the bill of sale papers and informed them face to face - with my passport, drivers licence etc that I had not owned the cars for three years.

They reported the car as haaving been eexported (I sold it in the UK), they then put out an arrest warrant foir nthe guiy who was driving it around as his insurance papers were now invalid.

I could not get the 700 Euros back in fines I had paid - but he will get arrested andd fine and charged for importing aa car without registering it - which for a car of 1500 Euros value is going to hurt - JOY!

I believe you will have to personally go to a Notary or even go to Traffico in your nearest appropriate branch and report the papers missing and apply for new ones. I could be proven wrong - but in my case - writing to them for 3 years after I'd sold the car and didn't have papers for it cost me 700 Euros in fines. How much do you value getting those papers sorted?

Obtaining replacement documents is explained fully (but in Spanish only) here:

http://www.dgt.es/was6/portal/contenidos/documentos/oficina_virtual/vehiculos/duplicados_vehiculos/duplicados_renovaciones_permiso_circulacion.pdf

The document to be used is here:

http://www.dgt.es/was6/portal/contenidos/documentos/oficina_virtual/conductores/hojas_informativas/2.23_Cast__.pdf

For all matters concerning change of ownership, see here:

http://dgt.es/portal/es/oficina_virtual/vehiculos/cambio_titularidad/

For all matters concerning changing an EU / UK drivers licence see here:

http://dgt.es/portal/es/oficina_virtual/conductores/canje_permisos/

For all matters concerning owning and driving a Spanish reg vehicle see here:

http://dgt.es/portal/es/oficina_virtual/

If you have problems with translation, find a translation service, and just remember that for Spaniards in the UK faced with similar problems, the DVLA site is not available in Spanish!

But in the UK - you'd have had a chance of clearing up ownership of the car via email or letter instead of haaving to personally appear with passport - and would have had a good to fair chance of getting erroneous fines back - which Spaaniards in the UK could do too - we'd even give them legal aid to do it.
