OK you guys out there, I need a bit of help. We have 3 phone lines, 2 for phones, one for the fax. Downgrading to a smaller office space and wanting to get rid of one line and use it as a combined fax/phone line.

The fax we have doesnt have a hand set, so can we use a splitter and if so how does it all work?

Go on - must be some technical peeps out there!!!!!

Thank you!!!!!

Simple ..... well .... in the UK it is.

Anyways,

Plug one phone and the fax into the double socket, or splitter as you call it, plug the lot into the phone socket.

When the phone rings, answer it, if it's a fax tone, then press answer on the fax. Once it picks up the fax, hang up the phone (usually wait about 2 secs)

It's as easy as TechNoApe said. We have 2 phonelines, one with a multifunction connected to it and it works fine.

Brill. I thought that was the case but wasnt sure. I think I can set the fax to auto answer after so many rings to allow for an answer machine as well, but my memory isnt that good!

Thank you

You probably can. Most of them do. We have ours set to answer after 5 rings. If you you have an answering machine connected, or voicemail activated on the phone line read the manual of the fax. Some of them have to be set up to answer before the answering machine/voicemail kicks in and other have to be set up after the answering machine.
