Walking the world

Walking has always been a big part of my life. It is the most sustainable travel possible. Tread carefully on the earth.

Acebuchal

Acebuchal is a hamlet, nestled in the valley beyond Frigiliana. It is in a strategic place between the coast and Granada, where traders would rest themselves and their mules, before travelling on to Granada. It was abandoned after the civil war, as it was believed that locals were shielding Republicans in the surrounding countryside and the Guardia Civil followed Franco's orders to banish the residents. Thankfully, not everyone moved away and one local man, Antonio and his family decided to bring it back to life.  There are now B & B's and private dwellings, a wonderful restaurant (run by Antonio's 2 sons Antonio and Sebastian) and it is a great location for walkers. The air is wonderful. We walked from Competa to Frigiliana and back, staying overnight in Frigiliana. Wonderful.
