Advice wanted on buying 2nd hand pickup

I need a 2nd hand runabout pickup for my finca. Second hand ones in Spain seem expensive and very high mileage. Buying 2nd hand in Germany seems better value but I have had nightmare experience previously with Spanish matriculation, "technical reports" etc I also see a few places selling 2nd hand LHD vehicles in UK. Does anyone have any words of wisdom? Pitfalls to avoid, etc. Many thanks. Guy
