Is it possible for an 'autonomo' to reclaim part of the IVA on a new car - (not a commercial vehicle)

I cannot answer your question TandA,  but just in passing, people should be aware that the discount given on new vehicles under the Plan Pivy, must be declare on the income tax return for that year.  That might make it better value to sell the old car instead,  thus defeating the idea behind the Plan to encourage new sales and remove old, polluting, vehicles from the roads.

If a car or van has been bought specifically for the autonomo's business and is used exclusively for it, then the cost is allowable. The VAT is reclaimable right away but the allowable expense for income tax purposes is spread over 8 years (12,5% of the cost is deducted every year). If an autonomo is using his or her personal car for work purposes then the cost of the car is not generally allowable even on a proportional basis.

I'm very, very surprised. In the UK you can only get the VAT back on a car (as opposed to a pickup or van) if you are a taxi company, driving school, limo company, etc. One wonders how anyone knows/proves that a car bought, and VAT immediately refunded, will, in fact be used "specifically for the autonomo's business".

"Oh yes, at the time I bought it and filed for the refund I was intending to use it solely for my business, but you know how things are....."

The much more canny UK VATman lets you claw back the VAT on a vehicle lease on a monthly basis, which explains the popularity of leasing. By ensuring leasing companies only lease to businesses, it minimises the possibility of people trying to improperly reclaim the VAT.

Obviously the Spanish IVAhombre has reason to be far more trusting of his compatriots. lol.

Or put another way, I suspect it's easier said than done.
