Does anyone know if there is a specific time span for 'long rental'. Are we talking at least a month, two months, six months or a year. Is 6 to 8 weeks still considered a holiday rental?

We define a longterm rental as being for a minimum period of 6 months and then requiring a rental contract, and specific arrangements for the payment of the utility bills, but this is only the way we operate so other may vary

This then effects the way this we would price a rental, long term being priced at a lower rate, plus the utility bills that are paid directly to the suppliers by the renters

We treat anything less than that as a contracted holiday rental with a price that is inclusive of utility costs and regularly rent for periods between 1-3 months on this basis

It would not be possible to register on the Padron for example as a short term tennant

Remember that if you stay, or intend to stay, PERMANENTLY in Spain for 3 months or more , you must register on the EU Citizens Register.

According to the Tax Office, that makes you IMMEDIATELY TAX RESIDENT and thus obliged to make your worldwide tax returns in Spain   (as amended by the Double Taxation Agreement Spain may have with your country).

It might be wise to leave Spain before the 3 months period is complete and return again. Then you will not be tax resident unless you spend a TOTAL of 183 or more in any year, in Spain.

Thanks guys,

that'll do for me. My aim was to finfdout if a six to eight weeks period was considered 'long term'. So I know in which database I had to look. We just want to get away from the winter in northern Europe for a while. Between Christmas and the early March skiing holiday.
