I have been perusing the election results. I would love to be a fly on the wall of the PSOE offices this morning. The recriminations and hand-wringing must be a sight to see.

I must admit to being non partisan and no more that a half-interested observer. Like so many others I feel disenfranchised; that we are going through a pantomime, pretence at democracy.

Throughout Europe we are clearly electing dictators. As soon as the electoral web of deceit is swept aside we find dictators in position. I do admire those who do vote; their faith in such a system remains undiminished. There is a Spanish maxim: ‘Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.’

 Mike,

There is a Spanish maxim: ‘Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.’

I thought that was a line from a BB King song ?

Anyhow, didn't somebody famous once encourage folk not to vote for politicians because " It will only encourage the Ba****ds!"

I picked that maxim up in a Teach Yourself Spanish book fifty years ago. I don't know who BB King is or was so not sure. The other one, which always makes me smile. I saw it on a Socialist Workers Party poster about forty years ago. There are so many cute sayings about politics and politicians; they can be quite entertaining.

George W Bush tried to use that phrase once and as with everything else he did make a total b*lls up of it...

Politicians...

"Politicians are like seagulls. They arrive from out of nowhere in a fluster, squawking, sticking their beaks in.... crapping all over everything and then flying off leaving a mess."

"Politicians are like nappies / daipers...They should be changed frequently, and for the same reason."

Billy Connolly: 'Anyone who wants to be a politician should be automatically barred from being one.'
