HI ALL,

I LOVE Spain and Barcelona. I traveled and walked all over by myself and had a wonderful time with the people, food, etc. The only “bad” experience as a female is the men can be very aggressive. But if you’re from any big city in the USA (or have been to a nightclub here!) you can handle it. Just don’t get rude, you’ll lose. Ignore and move on. cheap daily flats price  in Barcelona: I do recommend staying in the Gothic because it’s really the heart of what’s happening in the city. Just be aware, and stay clear of the following places: La Rambla, (a.k.a. La Rob-la), the Metro (one of the places I’ve seen the most robberies, averaging one sighting a week), Calle Ferran (filled with drunk tourists) Irish bars (obviously). Accommodation - we found the landlady who gives her apartment for rent in Barcelona centre, in Gothic quarter, close to Las Ramblas, just in one minute from City Port. We paid 28 euros per night per persons. the apartment was 2 bedrooms. Here is her contacts: r_s_2002@mail.ru or a lot of travellers advice Barcelonarealestate.es

Average prices in the local supermarket are:

LOAF OF BREAD 57 cents to 2 Euros
LITRE OF MILK 50 cents to 1 Euro
WATER (1.5 litre bottle) 20 cents to 1 Euro
EGGS 75 cents to 1.5 Euro per half dozen
CHICKEN - Pack of 4 Breast Fillets 5-7 Euro
ENTRECOTE STEAK - 10 - 13 Euro per kilo
LAMB Expensive
BEER 50cl can 50 cents to 1 Euro (Spanish) or 1.5-2.5 Euro (imported). Litre bottle of decent Spanish brand such as San Miguel around 1 Euro.
WINE (75cl Bottle) 75 cents upwards; very drinkable brands available from a couple of Euros upwards
SPIRITS (Litre Bottle) Brandy 6 Euros upwards with a reasonable Spanish brandy such as Soberano 7-8 Euros, GIN 8-13 Euros with an acceptable Spanish brand such as Larios around Euro 9-10, WHISKY more expensive.

gazeta

while i understand these views are entirely your own, i wonder if you could expand on your view of staying clear of irish bars (obviously) as i think it is internationally recognised that the welcome and the craic you recieve in true irish bars is well documented.

Hi Jake

I suspect that Gazeta was referring to "Irish bars" which aren´t actually run by Irish people!  We have come across a couple on the coast that were overpriced, possibly because they are popular and they can get away with charging more.  We have an "Irish bar" in Jumilla that is Spanish run and they don´t even sell any Irish stouts!  Having said that, the staff are lovely and very friendly so the ambiance is spot on - and if you want you can have an Irish coffee there (they specialise in coffee and hot chocolate).

Sue
