I agree with what you re saying JH,

I think everyone should step back a little and look at this situation and the facts, the "corruption" we are talking about happened about 3 or 4 years ago , Polaris were fined a sum of 450,000 euro for the part they were deemed to have played in this situation.Since then they have completed on two more resorts which I would imagine would have been scrutinised under a microscope by the relevant authorities given the "corruption " with the Mar Menor site.

The next thing I would say is that most people were expecting to complete in October or later than that and when told they would be completing in June or July started complaining about having to complete so early, for my own part I am happy to be completing so early as it means our property will be available to rent rom the new  year instead of next summer, Whats that I hear you say, there wont be any golf course? Well once again lets not assume that everyone who has bought an apartment from Polaris world plays golf or intends to rent to people who play golf, I dont play golf yet and I will rent to people who play golf when the course is ready.

How many people own their own home ? did you build this home from scratch? did the build come in on time? if it did congratulations you are one of about 10% of people in this lucky group, What I am saying is INFORM yourself before jumping on the band wagon called " Im not going to pay another cent until..............."

So get informed and post the info on this forum so that everyone will know what is actually happening , not what people are ASSUMING is happening

Sorry for the rant but I am an optmist , Regards Ken.

  Hi All

I agree with JH & Ken’s sentiments entirely lets not jump to conclusions about anything, I can understand peoples wanting to be careful, if you start withholding payment you would be braking your contract and then putting yourself at risk. If you have concerns make sure you gain advise from your solicitor about them and make your payment that way and not direct to PW, that way your solicitor can ensure they have the guarantees in place, if you haven’t got a solicitor perhaps now is the time to get one, yes they are not cheap but it’s a lot of money you are spending and we wouldn’t normally buy a house in the UK without having legal representation.

On the positive side this is a big company we are dealing with, which is one resion a lot of us are buying from them and will have their own legal team protecting the company and indirectly us.

I am not aware of any allegations being relevant to Condado.

This is going to be a fantastic complex when it’s done and a fantastic region to be in.

It is a massive undertaking and invariably things will not always happen on time or go to plan, I was and still am amazed they are ahead of schedule in the first place, How often do you hear of that. In a few months time we will be sat by the pool moaning about the dust from the ongoing building work and the facilities that are not available as yet and some time in the future the rising cost of something or other because that’s what we do best, but a least we will be able to sit in the sun and do it.

Let’s be positive and just a little patient.

Phil

I may have misread the articles on the corruption allegations but I thought the figure mentioned was the sum that Polaris had paid for the land, not the amount of the fine.  I was under the impression that the charges have only just been brought against the Mayor etc and that no findings have yet been made.  Have I misunderstood?

Hi Payton, Yes it is an easy mistake to make, the fine was 450,000 euro , the difference in the values of the land "swapped" by the mayor and polaris was abought 3 or 4 million euro,s .

Just to give people an idea of how big this project is just get your head around these numbers, there are 12 gardens in the jardines in condado de alhama, each garden has about 200 apartments, each apartment will net polaris approximately 128,000 euro,s  , thats over 307 million euro,s.

THAT,S JUST THIS SECTION OF THE OVERALL PROJECT, I do'nt think they will mess around with that kind of money and risk losing the revenue from the rest of the project,

Do you?

Regards and common sense Ken.

Where is everone getting the idea that PW were fined from?  The acticle only says "but Polaris World was only called on to reimburse the public coffers by 455,331 €."  to me this does not indicate a fine, rather that PW did not pay the true price?

Thats what I read that PW paid only  455,331 euro's rather than 3 -4 million euro's and thats what is being investigated. But even so this specific part of the investigation relates to Mar Menor plots of land not Condado.

Thanks JHMurcia and ptan - that was how I had read the article.  It is unlikely that PW will have been fined for anything at this stage, as the corruption allegations are only just being investigated.  As in the UK fines cannot be imposed until any charges have been proved against PW.   Hopefully this will all be a 'storm in a tea cup' and we can all eagerly await our completions and enjoying life in the sun!

Latest update on http://www.typicallyspanish.com/news/publish/article_15980.shtml

However nobody in Polaris World admits to carrying out the negotiations with the Town Hall
Following its alleged implication in corruption in Torre Pacheco, the Polaris World company has said that it paid a high price for the land in El Jimenado which it later exchanged for other land in a deal with the Ayuntamiento. The company says that no irregularities have been carried out by it.

However La Verdad newspaper reports this morning that nobody in Polaris World admits to have carried out the negotiations on the deal with the Town Hall.

Company Chairman, José Luis Hernández said that the talks were carried out by a member of staff Facundo Armero, but he denies it.

The case has resulted in the imprisonment on remand of the Mayor of Torre Pacheco, Daniel García Madrid, as investigations continue by the judge Salvador Calero, who has also taken statements from both Hernández and Armero. The judge considers the deal resulted in a loss of some five million € of taxpayers money from the municipal coffers.
