Hi,

We are flying into Alicante in March for a week's stay in La Torre.

We are buying a 2 bed in the Jardines & hope to check out furniture suppliers, show apartments etc.

Can anyone recommend a good value, reliable car rental company to use? We have had a look on www.thisistravel.co.uk but the choice is vast.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

I've used www.holidaycarsdirect.com for several years now and they always seem to get me a great price. I even had a car broken into on the Costa del Sol and it was exchanged for a new one without any fuss or extra charge. So basic price covers all the insurance I've ever needed.

I always use Holiday Autos (www.holidayautos.co.uk).  I booked with them to rent on arrival at ALC last week for four days. Their supplier there is Record Rent A Car and I booked a Ford Focus. The car was less than a year old and their check-in & drop-off facilities were very efficient. Holiday autos generally work out the cheapest, I paid only £58-00 for the four days.

Hi PDMG,  Just wondering who you found to be the best value. We are going out at the end of March, and although we always use carjet was wondering who you found to be the cheapest?

We've used Polaris car rental & carjet in the past. Polaris supplied a new Ford Focus and picked us up from Alicante airport and took us to there place just outside Mar Menor where they have they hire business from (They don't offer this service anymore without paying for it). The only problem with Polaris is the hire cost. Carjet we found ok, good service at San Javier airport, well priced but car could have been a little cleaner.

We're trying a new one this time www.economycarhire.com/, it's the cheapest we've found and searches a few car hire companies. Make sure you click on the suppliers name and see that your car can be picked up at the airport or you might be in for a trip to go and get it.

I used Carjet a couple of years ago whilst visiting Estepona but was really hacked off when they told me I had to return the car empty (they charge for a full tank) as we didn't really use that much fuel and also they charged way more than the pump price for the fuel.  Used www.travelsupermarket.com to look last time and Auriga Crown came up tops.  No pre-charge for fuel - just top up what you use and return car full - a great price and we also got upgraded from a ford fiesta size to a new people carrier which was a bonus.

We ended up using the car hire comparison on www.travelsupermarket.com & got a Ford Fusion through Sixt for just under £90 for the week.

An extra driver was free & we only have to pay for a kiddy seat  (2 Euros a day) when we get there.

To be honest you could end up trawling through site after site to save a fiver.

All we want now is a clean car with no hassle at the airport & 7 days of glorious sunshine

cheers

Peter

Hi All

I have not used them before but I have booked a car with Simply Wheelz, they are part of the Hertz group so should be reportable, Simply Wheelz is a limited options version but could fulfil my requirements and costing looks good. The Web site is www.simplywheelz.co.uk

We use Avis - not always the cheapest, but easy to pick up from the airport and you can use your Tesco clubcard vouchers to virtually pay for the entire hire cost.

Think we booked carjet and then found they are not based in the terminal. So we cancelled and used one in the terminal as we arrived, no more waiting than if we had booked. Stayed in the small car/low price bracket and didnt notice any difference in the price. Just prefer to pick up a car at the airport and drop it back off there too- didnt want any hassle with taxi's or collection buses.
