Hi

I am considering importing my apartment furniture from Indonesia.  I reckon I can furnish the whole apartment for around £1300 - including the roof terrace furniture.  The stuff is absolutely gorgeous and - to be honest - is suspiciously similar to the stuff Polaris is selling at around ten times the price!   I haven't much info on the whys and wherefores of import regulations in Spain but if the stuff is for personal use and not resale then I can't see their being much difference from bringing your own stuff from UK??  If anyone else is interested in checking out the website then pm me and I will email the details.  Obviously the more of us who go for it then the lower the shipping costs to the nearest Spanish port will be.  I think you will be surprised at the prices which are all in US $ - great for us UK citizens who are getting a great exchange rate on the dollar at the moment.

I am currently in the process of compiling my own order for manufacture.  Another member is keen to join in with the transportation sharing with her own order.  My order (for a shed-load of stuff) comes to £905 but the company have offered me a further 15% discount bringing it down to a ridiculously low £770 !  Transportation is not too bad to Cartagena which is nice and close for us.  If anyone is still interested in joining us then please contact me and I will give you the company details in order that you may see the online catalogue and prices for yourself (remember that an additional 15% discount has been agreed).  My own order is for a 3 seater sofa, matching chair, coffee table, dining table and 4 chairs, mirror, solarium furniture comprising of a large table with 6 matching chairs, a 2-seater sofa with overhead drapes, a (gorgeous) coffee table with 4 matching armchairs.  Not bad for under £800.  With the payment in US dollars then we are certainly scoring with the strong £/$ exchange rate at the moment.  Please send me a private message and I shall respond as soon as possible.  Please also note that I will be taking up references from their existing uk customers before I send any money to the company in Indonesia, however, it appears that they have been in business for 13 years and have many magazine credits andworld-wide customers to their credit........

Hi there - If you have a look at www.rattanbiz.com you can see the furniture and prices (take another 15% off though).  Prices are in US$ so with the current exchange rate we will do very well.  Their are several links to associated comapnies on the site and you may order from them under the same terms.  Please let me know if you are interested and I will keep you informed on shipping costs/ties etc.  Response has been great so far.  Kind regards

Arlene

Hi there - with some of the entry dates now filtering through I am looking at placing the furniture order in Indonesia.  Can all of the folks who have expressed an interest please look again at www.javathebest.com  and /or  www.rattanbiz.com and prepare their order if they are still interested.  I should have all of the final costs ready in approx 3 weeks time and am hoping to schedule the shipment for arrival in Cartagena in mid July.  Please remember to deduct the 15% discount from the US dollar prices quoted on the sites. Thanks.

Hi Arlene

Thanks for the update on furniture, you say you are looking at arranging shipment to arrive mid July which may be well before some people are able to take delivery due to the property not being ready. Are you looking at storage options and costs or is this something we will need to sort?

Phil

Hi,

Anyone with any other suggestions in relation to furniture.  Went to a showroom in the UK today was hopeful to choose in the UK and they take care of the rest but to be honest I wasn't particularly impressed with the choice of furniture.  Any recommendations/suggestions gratefully received?????

Jax

Hi Phil - one of the other buyers has looked into the storage costs  and got some prices - I will ask her to post the info onto this forum. They are not too scary though.

We bought a furniture package with one of the companies recommended by Parador, Compared to some of the postings here it is clearly quite an expenssive option compared to doing it yourself but they do everything - even make up te beds (at least that the promise).

From a convenience point of view I'm not sorry we've picked this option so we don't have the hassle of getting rid of packaging etc but if we were planning to move out permenantly straight away I don't think we would have done it.

got prices for storage from company near PW - for what we want would cost around 130 euros a month, and insurance would be about 1 euro for every 1000.00 euros worth of goods - they even said that they would pick up goods from port - inspect them, take them to storage and then deliver them to  me (obviously this would cost extra) if we could not make it over - we dont get our apt till sept.

We also looked at furniture packs from company recommended by Parador, did like the furniture but found it very expensive and all the packs would be very similar - the cheapest was 2 bed from around 10k - I know they do everything for you but with buying the bulk of stuff from Bali, then buying rest of stuff from places like Ikea we can safe quite a bit of money and the stuff for the solarium is 3 times the price in PW garden centre.

The web address of the storage company is http://www.segurostorage.com/ - they get back fairly promptly and teir english is better than my spanish

Do you have any idea how much it costs to ship the furniture from Indonesia to Spain.

Thanks

I just got email today from lovely lady in Rattanbiz who quoted us the following

for the small 20 cubic metre container would cost just over 2000.00 US Dollars, and the  larger would be just over 3000.00 US dollars - that shipped to Cartegena, so between a few of us does not work out too much.

One of the other people who are looking to buy stuff this way has come across a Customs Agent who will look after all the paperwork and duty payable, take delivery of goods and deliver them to Condado, or storage company for a fee - she is getting back with details later so will keep you up to date with progress but at the moment, adding all together still seems really good deal - and dont think it will be too stressful if we have an agent helping us along.

Thank you so much for all your help with the furniture, I am so confused at the moment, don't know what to do.  Have considered doing the whole thing from Ikea in Murcia but am also going to see what the transportation costs will be from here but thanks anyway

Am getting a lock, stock and barrel quote from a Spanish shipping co who will collect, clear custos, pay tax/duties and deliver to us at Condado or to nominated storage facility.  Am allowing approx £900 for this in my calculations which still gives me a house-full of great stuff for under £2k.  I feel a lot better knowing a Spanish co is doing it all start to finish though.  Great for continuity and peace of mind.
