While the consortium thread is being talked about.

We have decided to buy sofs, fridge, washing machine, dishwasher and beds in this country and have them shipped by road (not container) to the property. initial enqs with shipping companies reveal you pay for Sq mts in the vehicle.

If interest is there with shipment going to same place there may be discounts available. This is just a tentative feeling of the waters with no plans having been made, if anyone is interested in pursuing this let me know and i will further enqs.

We are base in N.East (Tyneside).

We are definitley buying major items in UK and shipping( euro is very bad at the minute)

For anyone interested:

I have rang around a number of companies in relation to transportation of furniture from the UK to Spain.

Charges are per Cubic Metre ( eg. Washing machine is about 1 cubic mt. ) Average price per cubic mt for transport is £100 (ish).

Most companies around this mark, all not really interested in Block booking discounts.

I have identified a company we will be using as a family member have used them before and everything went well.

If anyone is interested let me know i will PM you details.

For info: transport takes 5-7 days, is by road and busy times are July/August, more notice you can give the better.

With regards to shipping over your white goods and anything electrical, how are you managing about plugs and voltage, etc

With the current Euro exchange rate we have looked at furniture packages etc in Spain and found using various interset free buy now pay in 12mth type deals it is cheaper to buy in UK and ship.

Electrics in the UK are fully compatible with the voltage in Spain but things like chargers, drills may not have the same power in Spain.

White goods you just buy a plug adaptor and they work as if in UK system.

Saying that we have decided to buy all electrics in Spain (mainly for guarantees)

We will be transporting beds, mattress, suite, dining table, linens, garden furniture etc.

My wife has done some number crunching and has worked out even paying shipping we will save £1000 + (maybe more) and have exactly what we want, and not pay anything for one year on just about everything we buy.

We have not turned our back on Spanish goods and will buy lots of add-ons accesories etc in Spain.
