Back to one bar on the resort.

What's the general opinion on what/who will take over next year.

Thank god for the condado club.

I take it that is the end of polaris world then on our resort or do they still have supermarket?

Various rumours of who the new owner's / tenant's will be but nothing concrete, but it's got to be an improvement. The supermarket is part of the"Upper" chain so  i assume will carry on [ as long as they are making a profit!]

Hi
I hope the Clover is only closed temporary as it gave us more choice with having the two bars on Condado. It is great to hear that the Condado club is doing well and proves that the way forward is to lease the units rather than
putting a manager in.Pat

I am sorry to hear the Clover is now closed, I think it was popular with many of us, despite it's many problems.  I hope it will soon re-open bigger, better, and under new management before too long.  The Condado Club and the Clover give us more choice on the resort and especially with having the Clover nearer to Naranjos - it will be missed while it is closed.

Indeed, this is exactly what I feared would happen, and I just couldn't understand those who obviously took great delight in reporting the Clover being empty after the Condado Club opened. As much as I'm pleased that the Condado Club is open it doesn't really have a 'pub' atmosphere about it, so I'm sorry The Clover has closed (though no doubt some are pleased).

Bit gutted to be honest. Although I didn't use The Clover that often it was good to have it and I'll miss it.

I tried the Condado Club and was not that impressed with food or atmosphere. Yes ,I would use again if I had too. The Clover had it's faults but would rather use Clover if we had the choice. I hope it reopens soon!!

I don't think it's an 'either or' between the Condado Club and the Clover Daniels, but for many people it obviously was. Some were positively wetting themselves at the prospect of the Clover closing.

The Condado Club is an excellent addition to the resort for what it is, i.e., it's ideal for breakfast, snacks and light meals and maybe the occasional drink. But it isn't IMO where I'd like to spend a whole evening with a few drinks because it doesn't have a 'pub' type atmosphere that the Clover had. It would have been great if both were open and flourishing.

Also disappointed The Clover is closing because that takes away our choice., I think the new Condado Club is very good as a bar that serves food and is a bonus for people down that end of the resort. But,  it's not a pub and  I like pub atmospheres -we liked having a walk up to The Clover and having a pint or two often around 4pm rather than in the later evening. My only complaint was that it sometimes took ages to get served. But we rarely visit in high season so didnt see the problems with clientel that others have posted about. Although we had a long weekend in August we hardly left the apartment.

From all the bits I have read I have felt the Condado Club may become a enclave for residents and the other owners who have become their friends in the off season- I hope not but it may be ineviable expecially if the Clover shuts. That can make other people feel unwelcome. However they've done sterling work setting it up and it'll be a good place for an afternoon beer next summer if you can get a seat outside. If its the only venue I forsee a parking crisis developing too.

On a positive note I've been told that the situation with the Clover is just about new owners taking over and getting their licence and that another bar is hoping to open at Al Kasar, a bakers, pizza place and an Indian restaurant. Hopefully its just a blip- afterall it took longer for Condado Club to get set up than 1st expected so wheels run slow. Closing The Clover for a while should get Condado Club a boost in turnover as there are so few residents and fewer visitors from now on and thats important as they need to be able to survive the off season- then when Al Kasar develops we really will have more choice,

I think the closing of the Clover was inevitable due to the time of the year, and Condado Club opening up. The resort is very quiet at this time of year and the Clover under Polaris was only popular, because it was the only option around.

Hopefully now, someone will pick up the Clover and run it properly. The resort needs several choices for bars and restaraunts, not just one. The opening of the Condado Club was great news, and I hope it was the start of proper competative commercial growth of the resort, away from the Polaris monopoly.

I hope the Clover re-opens but under new management.  I always thought it had the basics to be a good pub.  But unfortunately for me the service and often the attitude was about as bad as I've experienced in a bar.

I wasn't happy to hear it closed but it certainly doesn't bother me as I used it only out of necessity.

The clover closing is not great news in general for the resort as it was our anchor tenant in the town centre. This may  make it a bit harder to get others in the town centre, as the first one in, will be taking more of a risk. In general the hospitality industry feed off each other at such locations, so the sooner we get a replacement in, others will follow but the question is who will jump first!

Like others I like the Condado Club but it doesn’t have a bar like atmosphere but is providing a vital service to the community and should be supported.  The Clover while it had it faults it added some value, so it will be missed. It struggled mainly due to a lack of understanding of what makes a good Irish Bar and in the end It was probably doomed to failure. I trust we don’t have to wait too long for a replacement. A Spanish equivalent following local lines might be an interesting alternative!

I too feel it is a shame that it has closed i was over two weeks ago and we used both bars on the three occasions we went in the clover was busier, i agree that the new bar bar provides a vital service but we do need a central point for all to go and enjoy when we are over. the sad thing is that the resort is never full out of season and therfore business is in peaks and troughs.

lets hope things come into the centre and breath some life into it.

Nick

Tony (The Quiet Man),

I have read on previous posts about the potential for new owners/take over bid for Clover bar and also the introduction of new Bakers,Chemist Pizza and India food venues. I wonder if you can comment on how credible your source is on this issue or whether this is just more idle rumour????

I hope it is all true and that licences etc are in place and venues open by May 2012.....

Does anyone know if the Clover will be open for New Year? it will be a real shame if its not, I dont want to duplicate the other posts but the Clover did have real atmosphere and having spent the last 2 New Years Eves's partys there am most dissappointed at the recent news.

Gutted it has gone. Really am. Also with 24% unemployment no one has made the comment. "Hope the staff all find suitable employment." Especially now with Xmas looming, and a few of them with young families.

Will not comment further!!!

 Looking at the positives...

Polaris closed the Clover mid summer, but IRM stepped in to keep it going as well as opening the restaurant for the busy season. Could've been worse.

The Clover had to close to enable the next step for our community to begin.

It is frustrating seeing it closed now, but it is just temporary and we will have to make do for a while... lets look towards the future rather than hang onto the past.

Perhaps now Polaris is gone, as a community together we can have more influence on what we want from our resort. All it takes is a smile!

Very good point golfinjim, all we've lost id our 'local', some have lost their livelihoods and that shouldn't be forgotten. I only hope those who were gloating about the Clover being empty after the Condado Club opened are proud of themselves now.

I think anyone who "gloated" (maybe an exaggeration) probably was making the point that the Clover had a couple of years to get the community onside.  Like you said Cappielow the Clover was the local, but never run as one from what I saw on my visits.

To make the link between their comments and people losing their jobs is in pretty poor taste.

I wasn't one who made such comments....in saying that I am happy to put my hand up and say I won't miss the clover as it was.  I found in my experience that the staff in general, as bar staff, were a disaster.

But I certainly would take no joy from others losing their job, in this recession, or otherwise.

Well SMV I'm not much of a drinker so I wasn't a regular in the Clover but on my visits there I never once had a problem with the bar staff, I always found them to be perfectly pleasant. Maybe I was just lucky.
