Las Palas - is a pleasant place, largely Spanish, but some other nationals including Brits.  A very quiet "sleepy town" place, even more so in winter, but there's more going on than you might think if you just drive through.  There are a few smaller factories/warehouse complexes tucked away which are the central area for employment of the surrounding area.  And it's close to the AP7 motorway, so it's not that isolated - easy drive to Cartagena - 15 minues?  About the same to the new airport and also Camposol and Mazarron Country club and the beaches at Isla Plana and La Zhoria etc - so in a way it's very central - but not actually that close to much!

In Las Palas there are a few restaurants and bars, plus a few close by and a social centre.  But not much in the way of shops.  I don't believe there's any bus servive so you obviously need your own transport.  Property there is very well priced, some would say it's "off the beaten track", but great if that's your thing.

We lived in the campo near Las Palas until about  four years ago until we moved to an area where we can be nearer to facilities. As has been said the town is small amd friendly. There is a medical centre, chemist, bank and a few bars in the village. There was a small supermarket at the end of the village but do not know if it is still open. The nearest larger town is Fuente Alamo which is approx 20 by car. There is a Mercadona there, more shopsbars and restaurants.
I can recommend some local estate agents that specialise in the local area if you would like to private message me.  Also know an excellent solicitor based in Puerto de Mazarron if you want details.

Good luck in your search

Jean.

Hi jean yes that wud b great.    Have looked at Mazarrón too el almillo I think it might b called. I did wonder about how much was round about there as I wud like to b around other people and houses.   We did plan being over there this summer but that's all changed for the now.   The villa I saw seemed to b near other houses and had a great plot which wud suit me too.  Thanks gillian

We lived in the campo as I said but when we reached 70 realised we had to be realistic and look to times when we not be able to drive. A car is essential in the area as public transport is nonexistent. To br honest Las Palas cannot be described as pretty but it is a pleasant place. There are many other villages in the srea you could look st. A couple of estate agents that specialise in the area are Fuente Alamo Real Estate - I have to say here that they are personal friends of ours and have been trading in the area for almost 20 years. If you wanted to get in touch either ring them or email and they will give you good advice. The other longstanding agent in the area is Old Farmhouses Spain  but their properties are mainly in the campo.
El Alamillo is near Puerto de Mazarron and you can walk into the port in about 20 minutes. There is also a beach at El Alamillo but it is a bit pebbly. A nice area though.
Hopefully you will be able to visit later this year as we are coming out of lockdown little by little and the Prime Minister has said that Spain will be open to tourists in July. Fingers crossed it happens. At least we have been able to visit pub and restaurant terraces for the lst two weeks.
all the best Jean.

You're right Ayrez, Las Palas is not an attractive town, from distant school days it might be described as "lineated settlement".  The long main drag is quite narrow and there's not much in the way of good looking features or gardens that I recall.

In that area I would recommend Tallante, certainly a more attractive place and has an "up market" village feel with an excellent large restaurant which seems a focal point of the community.   But I don't know it that well and not sure there's  much in the way of basic amenities.

Aww maybe not the place for me then.   Think I Mayb saw the villa and was using that as my guide instead of the local area.   We retiring quite young 55 and 54 so I do need to b round about other people and amenities I think    Defo want to b part of a community , village type thing few pubs etc to meet new people.

Maybe Tallante will be a bit quiet for you also.  Isla Plana may be worth a look, as is Bolnuevo, both on the coast, so more pricey, but great places to live. Puerto de Mazarron is between the two and gets a bit lairy in the summer, but superb restaurants and beaches.

There's masses of pleasant villages in that area, plus there's Mazarron Country Club and Camposol, two urbanisations where lots of Brits particularly live - 15 minutes or so north, so away from the coast and substantially better priced.  Have fun!

Ithink Tallante will be too quiet, it is quieter than Las Palss as there is only the restaurant there. I agree that the coastal areas are busier but you could check out some of the bigger towns such as Fuente Alamo , Alahama de Murcia and Totana if you fancy inland areas and communities.
You really need to check the area for yourself as only you know what you really want. If you are not certain try renting for a few months in the area you fancy. It is easier to move from a rental than sell  (and cheaper) if you have made a mistake.
Good luck and have fun searching.

yeah i think we might buy a camper van first n do some touring wen all activities start again.  lookimg forward to it.   the villa in las palas is lovely and within my price range.   camposol we looked at last may.  rented a villa there for a few weeks and the community spirit is great.  everyone was really welcoming but the state of the roads kinda worries me.   no community fees made me wonder if they will ever b repaired ..?    i keep looking and asking advise im sure we will find the perfect place eventually.   yeah we no want to make a mistake n pay tax to buy. tax to sell n so on.
