Hello,

Looking to replace a 17 year old 100 litre Electric Edesa water heater. It has two elements that can allow the heater to operate at 800w or 1600w.

As we are on a low power limiter, this has worked fine, with very few times when we go over the maximum power for the apartment and it turns all the power off.

So my question is ..Does anyone know of a 100l (possibly 80l) tank that has a low power option? I have been trawling through the specs and seem only to find 1500w minimum?

Thanks in advance, Mac

Go to Leroy Merlin / most Builders merchants ..and have a look  ...what I Will say is anything less than 1500 Watt's will not be sufficient to heat the water especially a 100ltr tank it would take all day just to heat up ...you should be looking at (3000 Watt's 3kw) all these heaters have a built it thermostat that you set at the desired temperature ...as soon as this temp is reached the heater will turn off .

Go gas if you can. Cheaper.

Thanks for the answers.

The current 800w heater, with the option to go to 1600w when hosting guests, has worked fine for 17 years, and never left us short of hot water. windtalker's suggestion to go to 3kw would mean us sitting in the dark regularly as the ICP would be forever tripping out, so wont work for us, sorry to say. (we also will not be upping our incoming power supply).

We had previously discounted Kavanagh's suggestion as we did not want to be a slave to the gas bottle man. But it has made us relook at the possibilties and we discover we have mains gas outside the building, although no one in the building uses gas. I wonder what the logistics and cost to have us connected is, and will certainly investigate.

Meanwhile if anybody does know of a sub 1kw heater available on the market I would be obliged.

Mac
