Hi, I just wanted to warn other readers of what happened to myself and a few others. There are a pair of electricians that are advertising in the local english press that are scamming people. Upfront deposits are requested, receipts given, but the work is not done. They lull you into a false sense of security by doing a days work then never returning.

These 2 so called electricians, James and Jake (also calls himself John) state that they have been in the area for 10 years which is untrue as they have barely been in the Costa Del Sol for a year.

I just want readers to be aware to ask for credentials and not just trust receipts and invoices. Make sure they are fully qualified by seeing their certificates or equivalent, ask to see their DNI cards, take a landline number and do not give any money upfront at all.If its asked for then go somewhere else to get the work done!

Good advice Mr Angry.  There is a problem at the moment of lack of trust between builders/tradespeople and customers, and it works both ways.  We have found that recently we often have to pay something upfront or the tradesperson will not do the work, as they too have been ripped off a lot by doing the work and then not getting paid, sometimes after having spent thousands on materials and weeks or months working for someone.  We are told by a Spanish builder we know that the Spanish customers are the worst and he has a lot more faith in the British ones.  It's a great pity that people have to be so sceptical and not trust others, but that's just the way it is at the moment.  You have to be very careful when you part with your money as the customer and very careful when you pay for materials and spend time working for others who may then not pay up.
