"guslopez -By the way , returning under retirement age UK citizens cannot receive benefits until they've been back in the country 2 years ! "

This will be for contributory benefits such as JSA as the NIC you pay in one tax year is only taken into account from the following January, eg tax year April 2010 to April 2011 only becomes effective for contributory benefits from January 2012. If you do not qualify for a contributory benefit because NIC has not been paid then non contributory JSA will kick in but this is means tested so not everyone will qualify.

"Camposol- like Bri I will not be claiming a state pension and believe me as someone who worked for 30-years in the City have paid an awful lot of taxes but also made enough to make my own way in life without the need for benefits from a government. I hope the government use my non taking of a pension to benefit the needy."

I had to sign up to this forum to respond to this nonsense.

From your earlier posts in this thread, you're a quant.

The type of quant who apparently got enormously well paid to come up with formulas like... Residential Mortgage Backed Securities perchance?

Who's formulas overleveraged the entire banking system to the extent that the IBs that you developed these formulas for had to scrounge trillions off the taxpayer?

How on earth do you have the gall to then say:

"At least Oz is not blighted by the levels of government debt that the UK and Spain are."

Hmmmm... who came up with the formulas that the European governments are now backstopping?

You may like to think about the part you played in (pre)extracting your share of the biggest benefit fraud in history.

Well said Muffin

Too many scroungers who haven't put anything into the pot

I am retired and have paid into the pot for over 50 years and if I hadn't won millions on the lottery I would now be srcaping to get by

If I was in ethe position of not having to claim my state pension for myself, I would claim it anyway (having paid for it for so many years) and give it others in a less fortunate position....I can think of many families living near me that could really use the cash.  What I wouldn't do is let the Government keep it. But that's just me....

Yes Madiemac I know you are right in your thoughts helping your neighbours out  Although I'm a millionaire and still claim all my pensions. obviously it all goes back to the government in tax, but I too help the needy direct ( not the neighbours they too are quite rich) I have given Thousands of pounds away and enjoy doing this for the people who really need help.

I didn't mention the state pension.

I was talking about the biggest benefit heist in history - the one where the bankers stole trillions from the public purse. The one where you, as a quant and an involved Investment Banker, set up with your formulas and took more than your share from everyone's taxes and the resultant devaluation (against the AUD amongst others). To grab your wedge from the Euro/UK state purse, then bail for pastures new - whilst decrying the state of Euro/UK state finances - is somewhat disengenuous.

Well said Wendy and I think it has changed and it depends who you are, and your personal circumstances, as to whether this is good or bad, but it is still a fascinating country and we who live here should do all we can to maintain its unique and quirky ways even if they are at times really frustrating, it is Spain.
