How can one find the Identity of a person from their NIE

This was a question I was asked yesterday.

I know it is possible for government agencies, but I also believe that from time to time when I hcve given my NIE to a commercial organisation they too have been able to confirm it.

Anyone any idea please?

Have you tried googling it. I think if anyone has committed a traffic violation (for instance) their basic details can be found in this manner. Just give it a go.

                                 that was my first thought too (as always, with everything ! ).

If you have a licence from the tax office you can just key in the number and it will give you the name on the tax sticker.

This is providing the person has registered for tax which is not the same as applying for NIE.
