Hi Can anyone tell me how to get to Jaen from Malaga. A friend is arriving at Malaga Airport at 6.30pm next Wednesday and needs to get to Jaen? She won´t be hiring a car, so is a bus or train possible?

Thanks, Jane

Yes, there are buses and trains from Malaga to Jaen.  We've done this by bus and train a few times over the years.

If you take the train, you may need to change at Cordoba.

Here's the RENFE website:  http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/index.html

Here's the timetable for the bus to Jaen (it actually leaves from Marbella):

Have a look here for Malaga city to Jaen buses:  http://www.alsa.es

Amatista Hi;

Sanchez1 for info...

Portillo only have one direct service per day at 1500 from Marbella so thats no good.

Renfe fine if you have a couple of days to spare, because the first available train departs Malaga the morning after she arrives;case the service is AVE; supplementary fares apply and a train change at Cordoba; dep Malaga 0820 arrive Jaen eventually at 1620! Journey time 8 hours including a long layover in Cordoba!

Best bet is ASLA's express coach service from Malaga Bus Station to Jaen departing at 2000hrs arriving Jaen 2300. The coach routes via Granada but no coach change is necessary.

Fare is 34.94€ return. Tickets are bookable online through alsa.es or via the booking office at Malaga Bus Station or from the driver. The website can be a bit slow loading at times.

Your friend will need to take the Cercanias train from the Airport (entrance now outside Terminal 3) to Malaga Maria Zambrano Interchange. Journey time is 12 minutes. Need to purchase ticket from the machine at the station before boarding. Fare is around 1.50€.  Trains depart the Airport at 03 and 33 minutes past each hour. if your friends flight is on time she should just about make the 1903 service.  The bus station is adjacent to the train station about 3 minutes walk and directions are signposted within the train station

Do not go to Malaga Central on the train! You will miss the bus station if you do!

Hope this helps...
