Thanks, that is good news.... however that makes me curious to know who the correspondent at Arenal is :).
The swimming pool might be ready for the 28th, fingers crossed.
Regards.

Hi guys,
Just spoke to Elena again, she said that some neighbours told her that the swimming pool is opening this weekend, ie tomorrow. She didn't have any confirmation but that's what she's heard....at least my holidaymakers will be able to use it hopefully.......regards.

Hi all. I am delighted to share good news. THE POOL OPENED SATURDAY. Yes, can you believe it? We have a pool. Only issue with it is that it is apparently on a temporary license for the next three weeks. I understand this is so the town hall can assess it properly. Meantime, it only opens from 3 in the afternoon for some reason or another which I believe is down to a lack of keys. Still good news and progress.

I don't think this means Arenal have paid up. As far as I am aware, the community is still pursuing them. We are still on builders water so all that has happened really is that the Town Hall have now (temporarily at least) approved the pool and the pump has been commissioned.

Thanks Keith. My first holiday tenants are arriving today and I told them the swimming pool was open but was not sure if they have issued the passes (did the talk about a plastic bracelet?????) so I am hoping no one will stop them at the door and won't allow them to use the swimming pool, that would be very embarrasing. Do you happen to know how this is working?
Thanks.

Basically, the president is just opening the pool every day and locking it every night. He had been opening at 3 in the afternoon but it was open from early this weekend. I am not sure what time it will open today. The idea of wristbands appears to have faded away but I am not sure what the long term plan is.

Actually I think he probably does which is why the pool has been opening late afternoon last week. Maybe they give him the weekend off though!

Hi all i have just returned from Spain where i managed to part furnish my apartment, and sort one or two problems out.  Regarding the pool i was issued a contract which included one key and six blue coloured wrist bands, this was done on my last day in jimena and all in a bit of a rush.  In reading the contract it looks like the pool (when opened) will only open from 11-00am till 10-00pm, and from may to sept.  Has anyone else seen or signed this contract?

I haven't. Some renters stayed in my flat 2 weeks ago and they didn't need anything to get into the pool... I am going on Friday so will ask Elena for the key and wrist bands.

No news on water supply. I am a little miffed on the wristbands scenario. For a few weeks, we have been occasionaly been using the pool ourselves with no problems. We had guests arrive last Sunday who, arrived ealry afternoon and went to use the pool. They were confronted by other pool users who said they could not use it without a key and wristbands. They were also told the owner had to show proof of ownership to obtain the wristbands. Our guests then had to pay to use the municipal pool as we were unable to go stright to the urbanisation to sort it out. Later that day we were able to find the president and obtain the wristbands and sign the contracts without the proof of ownership because we are known in the village. My wife said that they were very apologetic that they had refused our guests. I can understand the situation and I don't want any Tom, Dick or Harry using the pool but we have never been told of this new policy. Those of you who have guests coming before you can come out be warned. Your guests may not be able to use the pool until you signed the contract and proved who you are. I suggest you get in touch with the community immediately if you want to avoid the hassle for your guests.

Hi. You need to speak to the president (can't remember his name) or the vice president (Pinar). Tell you what. Drop me a private message and I will let you have my phone number and then we can meet up (if you like). My wife, who speaks Spanish and knows Pinar personally as she teaches one of my kids, will come and help you. That goes for anyone else you needs a bit of help. Keith

Hi guys,
I am spending 2 weeks in Jimena and getting familiar with my own flat..... I still can't seem to be able to get the right temperature for the shower (ha, ha).
Well, serious things now..... the community board is collecting owners' signatures for a couple of improvements:
- They want to close the whole complex with gates I think so that nobody can get into it mainly for security reasons and cleanliness since it seemed in the recent Feria youngsters got all over the place drinking etc.
- They want to strengthen the fence around the pool so that it is stronger and no one from outside can see, I think that involves a new fence and bushes.
- Finally and most importantly they blame the administration company, EDIR, for the slowness of everything, specially the lifts and the pool. If it hadn't been for the board the pool would not be opended since EDIR did not do anything in this regards. Well, the contract is up for renewal on 21 November and they want to find another company that is based in Jimena (this one is in Algeciras), cheaper and that does things they are asked for.

Well, Patricio, de chairman is the one collecting the signatures so if you are around please do sign if you feel those are good things to do. Also they suggest people who are not residing permanently here can delegate their votes in any one and they suggest if anyone doesn't know anybody residing here the best people to delegate on are Patricio, the chariman, and Pilar, the vice chairwoman. For legal reasons this needs to be done in writting and as I have done it myself if any of you do want to use the same short template please feel free to do so:

Yo, XXXXXXXXXX, propietario del piso Arenal Jimena Bloque X - Portal X - X - X, por no poder asistir a las reuniones de la comunidad de propietarios, por la presente delego mi voto en Patricio Guerrero (Presidente de la Comunidad). (or whoever you want to delegate it on)
Firmado:
NIE/Pasaporte

Which in English is:
I, XXXXXXXXXX, owner of flat Arenal Jimena Bloque X - Portal X - X - X, not being able to attend the owner community meetings, hereby delegate my vote on Patricio Guerrero (Presidente de la Comunidad).(or whoever you want to delegate it on)
Signed:
NIE/Passport

I think for legal reasons so that it is effective, it must be written in Spanish even if you want to put the English below. If you are around you can give it in hand to him, in the swimming pool people are very friendly and anyone would take it for you and give it to him, otherwise you can fax it through to 956 641 396 (office hours).

Bye, going to the pool now.
Regards.

I also was in the UK, but we have been told that Edir will no longer be looking after the community after their first year ends. I do believe that the committee shall be looking after things, I hope.

The gates are being erected and the lifts are being commissioned, when we will be able to use them is anyones' guess, but at least something is being done.
