We are thinking of buying a property on Hacienda del Alamo to live permanently. Are there many people living there permanently or is this a ghost town in the winter? Are the facilities open in the winter period (supermarket, restaurants).

If you are looking at moving permanent ...I would strongly advise you to look at the Camposol urbanisation...just down the road from HDA ..Camposol has a large expat permanent community and all the amenities / services you will require for day to day living...HDA is a ( holiday resort ) it also has high community fee's of around €1,200 per year on top of your I.B.I council tax...you should be looking at buying on a urbanisation that has only I.B.I council tax to pay and no community fee's.

Over the last 12 years I have gone to HDA a couple of times a year . Very nice resort.

I think the build quality is far better than most resorts, I went a few weeks  back and the place was dead , I have never seen it as bad  as this , I understand this year has been a nightmare for holiday makers and owners not going because of Covid.  But  I have just sold a property on the Mar Menor Golf Resort, and I can tell you this is better place if you want to live full time,  100s of full time residents, probably   10 bars and restaurants outside the gates . And the coast is  10 mins in a car. These resorts can be dead in the winter, but Mar Menor and La Torre are better than most as they have plenty of full timers .  Rent first and see if it's for you .
