we can't start using up all the spaces on the perimieter for the market ...................where would all the people dump their cars for the park and ride to the theme park and Airport?

Sorry , just feel like being a little obtuse this morning!

This weekend the first festival of the year was held here at Condado de Alhama, we had three packed days of entertainment organised by Mileniun and a committee of residents all funded by local sponsors so there was no cost to the community. The festival was kicked off with an opening speech by Mª José Cerón Councillor of Celebrations and Health and a full evening of live music and children's entertainment kept everyone in the festive spirit.

On the Saturday the festival continued with a number of events and competitions taking place across the resort highlighting in a communal lunch in a rather grand marque situated behind Naranjos 1.

Last week at the first Condado de Alhama market we had an estimated 1600 cars parked on the outside road bringing around 3000 visitors to the resort, this resulted in record nights for both the Clover bar and the supermarket.  This week I was not expecting there to be anywhere near the same number but yet again the market combined with the festival drew 1000's of visitors to the resort.

The Clover bar was buzzing again and although there were long queues at the bar the staff worked hard to ensure that all were served,  in fact there were extra staff on hand to help clear the tables.  If the market continues to attract so many visitors then even more extra staff will be required.  The Market itself seemed bigger this week with a wider selection of stalls to choose from, I'm glad to say my favourite one was still there so I was able to stock up on ham again for the following week. The festivities continued all through Sunday and rounded off with evening dancing and live music in Al Kasar and an very impressive firework display brought the proceedings to a close.  Again, despite extra staff, the  the clover struggled to cope with the large number of visitors, which although slightly annoying for those that had to queue for a drink it was good to see the resort so lively.  There's only one bit of bad news from the Clover this weekend and that's that they are intending to stop the 12 bottles for €10 offer, seems a bit daft as they have been extremely popular since that started it back on St Patricks day.  Perhaps you would all like to send them a message on http://www.facebook.com/clover.alhama asking them to keep it on.

On a final note I'd just like to say thank you to all those that helped organise the festival, I'm sure everyone appreciates all your hard work and we all look forward to the next one in August.

Hi

Just read the latest newsletter from ML and I am a little confused with the translation but the way I have read it seems to indicate the market is only on until the end of August??

Can someone confirm whether it is just until the end of August or is it a permanent fixture??

I make it the same, which I'm really disappointed about as we're not out until September, and I was really looking forward to it!

I hope they rethink this.

Can anyone confirm how long the market is going to be at CDA for?  Not out until middle of September and would have loved to have experienced this.

Thanks

The information at the moment does seem to suggest that the Market is only going to be at CdA for August. Although I have read on other forums that people have been emailing ML to register their desire to have this extended. I think whatever permission required was only applied for August as thats the resorts busiest time and no doubt the thought process was that off season there aren't enough people on the resort to sustain it. However it appears to have generated a lot of visitors and last week's blogs about the market suggested more and improved stalls so may be that news and owners requests might get that permission extended.

Here's hoping that  ML extends this market to at least end of September as I'm sure its proving very popular with locals in the area as well as CDA residents.

I have emailed mileniun via their website www.condadodealhama.eu and am awaiting a reply. I'll post here when I receive one.

I think it would be a good idea for everyone who's interested to email them, that way they may be able to extend the saturday evening markets.

Hi All,

The market is now running from 6 to 9 o'clock as after this time is is pitch black and you can't see two feet in front of you,so we were told. Some stall holders did bring there own lighting but it wasn't enough. It was great to be able to shop without getting run over by the spainish and there shopping trolleys and the stall holders especially on the fruit and veg stalls are only too happy to let you sample there produce. Keep an eye out for the yellow plums they are delicious.

We visited the market for the first time on the 23rd July and we thought it was brill, not too many tacky stalls and not a lot of duplicate ones either.  The next two Saturdays the market increased in size with lots of tack and pick pockets, so beware.  I cannot see how the market could sustain itself outwith the busy holiday period as I didn't think it was that busy. Please support this as we want it to return next year.

Ali

Hi,

Didn't see any pick pockets but two residents got there purses stolen while attending the market Jill being one of them.  There were groups of men walking about (not Spainish or British) think they may have been Algerian but really not sure. Just be vigilant when attending the market thats all as these types of crime especially on holiday are not very pleasant.

Good shopping

Ali
