 Hi Guys,

I own a penthouse in Manzana 3, Block 3 which I rent out and use myself occasionally, The last time I was there (summer 08) the internet access was very poor, I had logged on from the appt to one of the pay as you go service providers. I have a potential client who requires the internet for the duration of his holiday. Could you please advise me if the reception on the pay as you go service is still poor or if you would recommend getting broadband installed permanently.

Kind Regards

Paul

 Hi Tuscan,

The WIFI signal providers were changed last year from VIP-HOTSPOT (truly awful) to Y-INTERNET (truly excellent). See previous thread:

http://www.eyeonspain.com/community-forum/17814/phone--flat-rate-internet---tv.aspx

We have a cheap long term rate with them directly

Tuscan, it depends where you are on La Reserva how good the reception is if you stick with pay as you go hotspots.  You may well pick up the signal from Andy's bar where you are.  We are right over the far side and although we could see the access points the signal was not good enough.  We had a permanent Y-Internet installation repeater put in during December 08 for a client who needed to work.  It is generally an excellent service.  We have to reboot the modem occasionally but we have to do that at home in the UK with our Virgin Media connection.  The biggest danger is if the signal is lost and a reboot is needed, guests tend to push every button in sight.  After one set left we had to have Y-Internet back in to reconfigure the modem/router, as they had pressed the reset button.

How much doe's it cost to get the internet connection direct to the apartment is it a monthly fee or an annual fee?

Cheers

Tuscan

We joined Y-Internet before they became the official supplier to La Reserva so installation and first year's fees was more expensive than it is now.  Call them - Becky or Wilma should answr the phone and they are English.  That said, we have just paid our annual fee for 2010 and I think it was €175 for the year, which we cover by increasing our rental fees slightly.  There are various packages and you can pay monthly, but it is more expensive.

Another company to bear in mind is Teleweb 952 833 300. A friend in Man4 told me they have approval to put up a new antenna on the extended 10 metre mast in manzana 4. I understand it will be up in the next 4 weeks

The Community of La Reserva De Marbella.

Dear Sirs,

We along with our technical partners Mercury Internet S.L. are pleased to inform you of our services that now cover your communities in both Phase 1 and 2.

Phase 1 Amatista

We now offer 100% coverage in both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz. Currently there is no hotspot service in this area. Clients will need to have a small antenna installed.

Phase2

We have recently erected four repeater nodes on the Television mast in Manzana 4 along with two more repeater nodes on one of the villas opposite in Las Chapas. The latter will cover all the Bloques facing west in Phase 2. This means that all those people in those particular bloques can now receive a pay as you goi service. The Manzana 4 nodes provide hotspot services with line of sight. We calculate that hotspot services are about 60 to 70%. Again similar to Amatista we now offer 100% coverage with antenna installation.

Price and Service

For clients wishing to purchase internet time on an ad hoc basis, Teleweb offers best value for money on the coast. E.G. Buy a Y internet ticket from Andy´s shop price €60.00 for 30 days. Pay for the same time with Teleweb by PayPal on the hotspot price for just €39.00 or visit the Teleweb shop and buy a ticket for the same price. For those with antenna installations all clients need do is e mail us ahead of their arrival. We turn on and off the client’s antenna remotely and simply direct debit the local bank account, all at the same low price. There are many other packages available, enquire for details.

Not only do we offer best value for money on the coast  we also provide the best service. Both Mercury and ourselves have two bandwidth suppliers something that no other provider offers on the coast. This means that if a provider goes down we have immediate back up. We also have diesel generators installed at our bandwidth source. This means when there is an electrical problem then again we have an immediate back up. We pride ourselves on offering the best customer service whilst offering excellent value for money.

Licences and Permission

Both Teleweb and Mercury Internet have independent licenses to broadcast internet and VOIP services. You can check at www.cmt.es. We currently operate with symmetrical bandwidth of 68Mb. All our repeater nodes are erected with the full and proper permission.
